I saw this lineup at the 1992 Jacksonville Jazz Festival. I picked up a copy of their cd, 'Greenhouse' there. I noticed that they've changed bass players recently. Jimmy Haslip and Will Kennedy pushed things along wonderful. Great band!
Russell is monster, genius, virtuoso, you name it. In my opinion very much underrated. He is with the ones at the top of the top. Of course is music, art, it’s not a competition but you know… Also a beautiful humble human being.
Russell Ferrante is showin' off his prodigious knowledge of Bach, Mozart, and Chopin during his piano solo. It's extremely rare to find someone approaching Jazz solos with so much "pure" Baroque and Classical figures/stylings over Jazz harmonies for so long!! Usually Jazz artists, like Keith Jarrett, will quickly play with a Baroque or Classical figure or two before resuming to a Bebop/Post Bop-based vocabulary. But Russell "stays in it", gradually building from interesting, easy-to-follow, 1st primer-level motifs to dazzling, complex melodies with blazing, virtuosic technique. I love that guy!!
@@MrDWoodsWhy thank you!!! I've had the pleasure and honor of actually being friends with Russell Ferrante since I was in my early 20's and I'm now almost 58. He has unselfishly given me one-on-one instruction at no charge and led me to the greats like Hancock, Tyner, and Jarrett. He's even let me come up on the stage at their concerts to check out his latest gear and let me PLAY before they started. The first time that he did this, he didn't even know if I could actually play! He's a beautiful human being.
That was an insanely fast tempo! One of my favorite jazz groups over the years. Will Kennedy is one of my favorite drummers and what else can you say about Jimmy, Russell and Bob? They are all top-notch.
Always, a huge fan. However, this tempo is just ridiculously too fast. Imo, just unmusical. Had stop listening. The album tempo is just so incredible. aaaargh!!!
What a band. Will Kennedy is just spectacular.
Drummer knows everyone’s parts, then, his own, incredible!
Will Kennedy for president! And what a keyboard solo, my god!

Bob looks like he was pissed, having to play it at that " much faster than the recording" tempo😉
