I would frequently stay up all night during the summer when I was 6-7 years old and watch Prevue Guide all night with my mom. We'd have "sleepovers" and try to figure out what to watch, but then we wouldn't watch anything, we'd just talk and this would be on in the background. That was such a sublime time.
S Perry The same can be said about Sneak Prevue as well. Sadly it was a spin off of Prevue Guide but some cable systems felt they were only allowed to carry one or the other and they couldn’t have both.
@@KevinPiland Cox in Omaha had both We had Prevue Guide on 7 and then 19 and later 79 when it became TV Guide channel Sneak Prevue was on channel 1 Viewers Choice channels were 25 , 54, and there were several in the 80s or so But mostly remember 25/54 cause they were the original 2 PPV channels

This brings me back to when we first got cable at my house in 1990. At the time I saw cable as this magical vault that I finally had access to. The past few years hearing kids at school talk about nickelodeon HBO and mtv, it's like I was now a part of what seemed to be a secret society. It was fantastic and I remember watching preview guide quite often to see what was on and I remember this music so well. I don't think anything brings back purer memories of what life was like back in those days than this music does. It legit sends me right back to my regular routines at the time, where I was living and who my neighbors were, what shows were popular at the time and what thoughts were going through my mind back then. This is nostalgia at it's finest

Brings back memories me and all my cousins spending the weekends nites at grandma and grandpa's house wen we all were young teenage kids. The good old dayz. lol
I was 6, a year after moving from Denver to Westminster, Colorado when I first heard this on TV and was immediately hooked. I get all the great 'prevues' including "Prevue Tonight" every half hour. And a couple of previews, then ads show while the music is playing, then a couple of infomercials to go along with the ID. Watching that and not having to worry about my parents getting mad at me nor grounding me from TV for it. Because it wasn't porn/adult stuff. It was Previews! Or rather, "PREVUES!!!" LOL And the same thing when there was a channel to view Pay-Per-View previews as well. Again, it was just previews along with the schedule of movies to be shown and the music playing.
This used to creep me out as a kid. It was like anticipation leading to something sinister.. cant explain it. Didn't like it at all! I remember like it was yesterday!
goddamn. i know exactly what you mean. im not old enough to have grown with this around, but that feel that someone from the other side is broadcasting the exact same thing over and over again, it's like they're trying to draw your attention from something creepy happening in the background
I remember this, I used to watch this on cable channel 3 in Memphis back in 1991 when I was 6 years old. I still hear its theme in my head every single day.
This is way before my time and my parents had satellite instead of cable, but this plays in my head once in a while. Sounds like the kind of music you'd hear in an MMO lobby while waiting for a match, like in Gunbound in 2005
OMG I remember this on my TV when it would periodically screw up by having split screens and then a message like "press left mouse button to continue." Wow this takes me back.
Considering all the other music that we actually know the origins of, I would say this was just stock music played over a satellite feed. It sounds like a .mod because, most 80s synthesizers used the same technology as the home computers of the time, and sounded very similar.
kargaroc386 and ***** OK, we've found one of the Fidelipac Cart tapes. We will restore it and then send as a .flac file. P.S. The ending part will be restored using this video because the cart doesn't have that part, It cues when reaches that part.
Just curious, how was this music loop played on the channel? Was it just an .AIFF or .MOD file hosted on the Amiga running the Prevue Guide software, and played out through its audio hardware under the software's control?
The music came from a 3rd audio channel on the satellite feed, the Amiga hardware had a special tuner that would switch between the 3 channels (left, right, background music) as needed. This is why in the May 31, 1991 (part 1) video the music stays on during the reboot, because the audio tuner remains stuck on the music until the system is put back in normal mode and gets a command to switch to another audio feed.
eljefecom Ah, I see--it came over the satellite then on a dedicated audio channel/subcarrier--that makes sense, especially during downtime or a reboot as you mentioned (I actually haven't seen that video yet). Thanks a bunch for the info!
This channel failed so many times, hard to imagine it lasted all the way up to the 2000's, but I'm pretty sure they upgraded their software by then so it wasn't always failing like it used to.

+Pajama Network it also reminds me of the 90's and also reminds me of Cafe's that do piano music
There's an actual vaporwave song that has been sampled from this. 18 Carat Affair's "Live at 5".
The music is from 1991 (and probably made before that year). I'd hardly call it '90s. It sounds very '80s.
