This was what he wasn't grabbing .. mergers make letters not "random" shapes.
I also had to look up the T on the forums because I was trying to make it upsidown too.
To me it was very clear that the mergers only made letters right side up, when he made the U it was obvious.
Streaming is hard and sometimes it makes Mr.Lion's bald brain absolutely fried.
It's a great game regardless, keep up the nice work
Mergers only being able to make real letters, as opposed to every other building being able to make shapes, should be made explicit in the tutorial.
I think the game is great and honestly I was just cringing at NL not being able to figure out the T because the recipe made so much sense to me, I think it’s just one of those person-to-person things (and NL is famously bad with rotating shapes)
This was like watching a toddler trying to operate a backhoe. He knows what he wants to happen, he knows where the levers are located, but he has zero chance of digging a straight ditch.

Would actually be a really fun challenge. Most Chinese characters are made of Radicals, which are just smaller characters. It’d definitely be possible to implement.

The fact the merger only creates legal letters right side up didn't get into his head at all.

Unless you mean a J, but since | - is an L you couldn't get a J that way anyways

He was expecting to manipulate shapes and in some cases that's what you're doing (upside down L or V are not letters, just shapes). There's nothing logical about mergers needing to produce legal letters. I'm with him on this one. I'm also with him for order of inputs not mattering. Those rules are turning the game from a creative logic puzzle into a guess the recipe game, which is fine but not what I (or he, apparently) was expecting or find fun.
@@zorglug as a person who is very garbage at puzzle games even I was agreeing with him that the shapes should matter and the order should as well, for a puzzle game to be good you have to be able to intuit answers by using previous knowledge, so when you get a scenario like make a T and all your logical thinking learned from the game it feels cheap

Egg Head can't understand that letters can't be assembled upside down. You get to make that mistake once.
I get it though, streaming is hard, and it's hard to learn and understand why something works when you're also trying to maintain entertainment.

I played this demo and decided to not play the full game because you just have to guess what the devs think makes a letter.
Just by watching NL play it, the new U recipie doesnt make any fuckin sense. How does a backwards and forwards L not make an upsidedown T
Nah you don't have to guess at all. I also played the demo and breezed through it without having to guess a single time. The challenge was making it efficient. The only letter that needed explaining is V and they explained V in the tutorial. I genuinely wonder what letter you had to guess on because it's pretty damn straightforward. Looking at all the capital letters, I know how to make every single letter there except Q.
@@Gorbgorbenson I'm actually surprised at how many people didn't pick this up. I thought NL was just being thick. Combiners don't and never did produce invalid letters a single time. An upside down T isn't a valid letter. All he had to do that whole time was switch the mirror with the combiner. You'd think people would figure that out when it would spit out a "?" but apparently not...

The combiner obviously doesn't just squish, since then I and I would just make a fat I instead of a v. It's a bit stupid though since you just have to guess what the devs were smoking when deciding how things should be combined.
The main rule that gets overlooked here is, that it only creates legal letters. Never upside down, never sideways, only right side up.
So an L and a flipped L can never make a T because the lines are at the bottom, but T has them at the top.
It's a very boxy U and you can argue that it's not a good recipe but it will never create an upside down T regardless.
In fact, he got the right solution early on, fumbled the wiring and didn't change the wiring at all. He noticed he didn't change anything and deleted everything instead of going with his initial idea.
Although maybe an upside down L and - would also create an F instead of an T. But he didn't even get to the F
bro you cant create shapes only letters. thats why you cant make an upside down T then flip it. He even said "I was under the impression that you were adding together shapes..." no literally the first line of the tutorial said add letters together.
Right, that's why you can make backwards C's, backwards L's, sideways I's, etc... all real letters and not just shapes, right?

I downloaded the demo after getting frustrated with him not understanding he has to flip the L before combining. And never once had to guess
Watching NL try and rotate shapes is like getting those mobile game ads with the lava puzzles and the person doesn't know how to solve it. So it makes you want to download the game to solve it correctly.

Played the demo before watching this, got stuck making the T as well. I think the mergers only spit out full letters, so you can't make a ∀ or a ⊥ and flip it later

I think the devs are pretty clear and what they want. It doesn't make an upside down T because that's just not a letter. It only makes right side up letters, that's why it gets ? With the V and the - because an upside down A is not a letter.
The game is about words, words are made out of letters. This is game is about letters, not shapes.

One capital L and a mirrored capital L do create a U when overlaid. You’re looking at the lowercase l not uppercase

The game is creative but I feel like I'm noticing a thing where if you have to keep making the same letters it can get boring really quickly. I mean how many times do you want to make a B after you've learned how to make it once? It's a lot of repetition which kills the better part of the game which is the discovery of making the right letter shapes.
Honestly the game might have been more fun if you just had to make certain symbols that didn't necessarily need to be letters, and then have enough different symbols to make it interesting.

The L, reverse L making a U instead of an upside down T is on the Dev, man, not you. I said "He didn't bend it!" at the same time you pointed it out. That is not consistent internal logic. Why have a bender at all, then?

It feels like they were trying to make a Zachtronics game but missed that a big part of why those work so well is the predictability. Feels like half the challenge here is figuring out how the devs decided each interaction should arbitrarily work. The ? specifically really annoys me, since it's basically the devs saying "nope, we didn't think of that, so you're not allowed to use it" motherfucker you're making a problemsolving game, half the fun is finding solutions you didn't think of.
If you just make letters instead of shapes, because it's a word game not a shape game, it is rather predictable

Ayy you figured it out. It's an intermediate product, not the final product. Anything can come out of rotators and mirrors and benders, but the merger has to produce a valid letter. ∀ isn't a valid letter.
@@Chooopy It is not obvious, that merger must be last and could not produce intermediary product. IMHO, both merge -> rotate and rotate -> merge must be valid, as soon as the result is the same

Disagree. You're merging shapes together to create a letter. Not creating a letter that doesn't exist. The other steps aren't creating anything. Feed it normal, correctly oriented inputs like a sane person first instead of doing it after. I genuinely don't understand how people think it's logical to feed it C + I to make a D instead of I + Ↄ like how it would be properly constructed. The goal is merge shapes to produce a "D" not a backwards D
