    Never have been a GM fan, but I can appreciate this build, especially since you're using an Olds engine and not just throwing another LS in it like everybody and their brother does. Back in the early 70's, my friend had a '71 442 455 that was pretty nasty. I was driving one evening and happened to pick a race with a '69 Pontiac Gran Prix, and it was pretty scary watching the speedo run back around past zero. With my friend talking to Jesus, I managed to pass the Gran Prix with traffic coming at us. We got down the road, the Pontiac disappeared, and we stopped to gather our nerves together. Never tried that again!

    I have a 2004 R rebuilt Art Carr performance transmission in my 72 olds. 30 over 455. 400 + horsepower. That 2004R rebuilt with the right parts would do just fine behind that engine. The nice thing about the 2004R is it’s the same length as the turbo 350. No driveshaft or yoke change. The gear ratio is better than that 700. And you have to use an adapter plate to mate it to the olds. The 200 has a universal case. BOP and Chevy.

    • @GregHuston
      @GregHuston Год назад +3

      I'm sure Monster gave them the 700R4, I have an '85 442 and my 2004R Bowtie Overdrives level 2 trans held up to 6000 RPM shifts and burn outs behind a built 403 (easily 425hp) and that trans is still fine. AND think it's cheaper than a Monster 700R4!

    In 1990, I had a 1985 Cutlass supreme. I pulled out the anemic 307 130 HP engine, and built a 403 Olds small block based on the David Smith Oldsmobile design. 9:1 compression, pump gas, I sent the computer-controlled quadrajet to the carb shop to have it reworked. That being said, at the end of it all it ran a 12.70 in the quarter mile. I had mated it it to a 700R4 using a TCI adapter so it can bolt to a BOP motor. Those were some of the best days.

    • @viiriix6525

      @@viiriix6525 My one mistake was having a non Olds a person work on my heads. I didn't want to ship them to California to Dave Smith and lose a couple of weeks with my only car. So I had a local guy work on it, after that, the car started running like crap. Number four cylinder lost the valve seats. I pulled the heads off the engine on the stand. Unfortunately, someone went to use my engine stand and didn't the cover my motor back up and it ruined my engine with it's sitting out in the air. I think I paid $600 at the time to have Dave Smith give me a set of heads with larger 2.072 and 1.625 valves, dual springs, new guides and seals. Had I known better at the time as I was really new at this, for $1,600 instead of $600, I could have had them do a full-out set of performance heads for me. Lesson learned, but it was a hard pill to swallow with such a fun car.

Idk, either way, It took 2 buddies of mine and myself almost 2 days of tweaking things here and there to make the Buick motor fit properly. the Cutty went from a Sunday church-going vehicle to a fun beast that would just guzzle gas once you opened her up. with a factory 17 gal fuel tank you could watch your fuel gauge slowly drop every time you opened it up. didn't care though cause at the time gas was $1.19/gal for premium so didn't bother me to drop a 20 in the tank every day. Lol. had the Cutty for 20yrs before letting her go and I regret it almost daily.

    Even after all these years, some people still don't get it and have to spend more money to get the 700 to work where a 200-4R originally was installed. Plus, they don't even realize that the 200-4R is a better transmission. I'll gladly take that weak transmission off of your hands. By the way, it's 200-4R not a 200-R4. I hate it when a car guy says it wrong. It immediately makes them think there not so smart of a car guy after all.

    Another waste of time powernation show. Half the show is selling products & not showing any of the build. Also, don't forget the "field trip" to a random boring swap meet or whatever. Would be nice to actually see a powernation show that actually does what the title says it was going to do. Probably why the show no longer exists except in rerun form.
