- Training Within Industry Job Instruction is a four-step method that teaches an individual how to do a job correctly, safely, and consistently while meeting all requirements. In this video, LEI senior coach Josh Howell demonstrates standardized training for standardized work. Read the Lean Post here: www.lean.org/LeanPost/Posting....
Hi, I'm pleased to know that TWI Job Instruction techniques are still around.
I previously was a course presenter here in the UK.
It was delivered to potential instructors and line management personnel. The course subject was TWI JOB INSTRUCTION and
Communication and promoted by the Manpower Service Commision in England. I still apply the methodology today.
That's a great way for doing training. Thank you for sharing the process of effective coaching and teaching.
I was trained on the same process with one addition. Trainer performs the task the first time without talking. This allows the trainee to just watch and understand the work content without having to listen or pay attention to anything except what the process is.
This is a deviation from the original TWI Job Instruction 4-Step method that doesn't add anything to the instruction. In this way the learner is observing an operation he/she doesn't know, seeing a sequence of unknown, and very often not understood operations one after the other, most of the times confusing him/her. Frankly speaking, I do not understand why your trainer introduced this useless (but I would say "wrong") modification. Changes are not always for the better, and there is no need to change something that has proven to work very well!
that adds nothing to the process, the trainee can just get confused as they don't know what you are doing.
Fantastic. We can see the importance of the job instructions and visual aids in this video.
I think we missed a key point for step 4. I feel it's worth mentioning that when you pinch the bottom, you are marrying the top pinch to the bottom pinch. Otherwise down the line you could have people releasing the top pinch, crossing their arms, and pinching the bottom. Just a thought.
thanks for sharing, it helps me a lot!!
Nice job Josh. Keep your calendar open for the next TWI Summit. I think we have a speaking slot for you!
I prefer the underwrites knot demonstration . This was used in the original TWI training
Great example
This is great..... the company I work for is ready to begin TWI (JI) training...... Will LEI be offering a JI training workshop soon?
Stopped after Step 1.... You didn't get her interested in learning the job, "we fold T-shirts in a very particular way", with no explanation why! Train with your card if you're not sure of the steps.
Hate to be picky, but making every step important makes all of them equal, and none important.
Only important steps must be standardized. They are all important for the end result.
Important Steps are when something happens that makes the job advance. But we do not need to write any micro-motion, just what significantly makes the job advance. Being able to grasp Important Steps, and more than that, Key Points is the "tricky part" of Job Instruction.
