アイレム最後のアーケードゲームとして登場したのは「ガンフォース」の続編となるこの「ジオストーム」。ゲームシステムは前作から大きな変化はないが、コマンダーの武器が2丁となったことで同時に2方向に攻撃することが可能となっている。また人質となっているギャルを助け勲章を集めることでボーナスポイントも手に入る。前作の特徴である緻密なグラフィックを引き継ぎ、高めの難易度ながらも、それを上回る破壊の爽快感がこの作品のウリである。全5ステージ。アイレムはその後、同年に親会社ナナオによりメーカー部門が閉鎖されたが、97年7月にユウビスが買い取ったことで98年10月直営ゲーム場の運営会社「アピエス」として存続し、アトラス傘下を経由して独立することになる。一方で会社が閉鎖されたことで、ゲーム開発を行ってきたスタッフは独立し新会社「ナスカ」を立ち上げ、今作の要素を引き継いだヒット作「メタルスラッグ」を作り出した後SNKへと移り、ナナオに引き上げた残りのスタッフは97年4月「アイレムソフトウェアエンジニアリング」を設立、ナナオを親会社に分化し、再びゲーム業界へと帰ってくることとなった。

The Stage 2 part 2 music is a remixed version of the Stage 3 music of "Air Duel".
This game is known in Japan as "Geo Storm".

I love how, at 4:35, the pilot just reaches down and not only PICKS UP A MISSILE THAT HE WAS APPARENTLY SITTING ON, But is just like "I'm gon give this missile the ol' HEAVE HO, and *THAT'LL* solve my problems!"

自分の周りには全く出回ってなかったのでこの作品の存在を知らず、知ったのはメタルスラッグ登場後数年経って、アイレム関連の記事を見てからでした…。
アイレムのドット技術は眼を見張るものがあります。
効果音にしろ、音声にしろ、グラフィックにしろ、まさに「メタルスラッグ・エピソード０」って感じだな

メタスラを初プレイした時・・・
「声がジオストームや！」
と思ったもんでした。
よくメタスラの元と言われますが、、、イヤ、まぁ、そうなんですが、自分は・・・
「ジオストーム＋海底大戦争＝メタスラ」
システムなどはジオストームですが、メタスラの「破壊の美学」は海底大戦争の背景の壊れっぷりにあるかなぁ～とメタスラを見て思います。
如何せん、D.A.S.シリーズは移植に恵まれないのでアンダーカバーとかコレとか移植をお願いしたいですね。

スーパー爽快ゲーム来た
ドット絵は粗削りなところがありながらもよく描き込まれてるし
魂斗羅スピリッツばりに撃ちまくり壊しまくりな爽快感はあるけど
演出（特に爆炎や破片）が派手過ぎていつ敵の攻撃を喰らってやられたかが非常にわかりづらい。
凄いゲームだ。

確か“ゲーメスト”だかのゲーム雑誌にストーリーがチラッと紹介されてたけど、DAS(デストロイアンドサツジン)が兵器開発用にXX染色体を採取する為に世界中から拐ったらしいゾ

Actually, the Gun Force games are older than Metal Slug. Some of the team that worked on them left Irem and went to SNK where they would create Metal Slug.

1994? This must've been the precursor to Metal Slug as there are too many similarities. They should've kept the series going. But instead, they stopped right there. Then SNK stole the idea, created Metal Slug, and a new franchise was born.
SNK didnt "steal" the idea. It's just that some of the team that worked on this game went to work for SNK, since Irem decided to start making console games instead of arcade games
