      It's athletic, but it's not a sport. If it depends on judges, it's not a sport. If a score is kept, it's a game. A sport is a competition that uses either a stopwatch, or tape measure to determine who is the winner.

      @@cyclopsvision6370sport definition: an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.

    • @vysearcadia522
      @vysearcadia522 2 месяца назад +2

      It’s not a sports game. It’s an athletic competition that people call sports competition. Problem is that “sports” in our heads always think of the games. And it probably started out that way. Not certain if the Webster dictionary definition has changed over time to be inclusive. Which isn’t fair to foreigners when they do this - just like how many different dialects of Spanish, Chinese, Indian etc. there are - English is doing this too and it’s stupid. How far from old English are we now? Anyhow, Athletics, or Athletic Competitions are not less than spprts - you have to still have the same level of athleticism as anyone in a sport to accomplish it. But it’s not a direct sport.
      A sport features players (mostly athletes) that are *directly and simultaneously* competing *against* each other.
      A competition features talented individuals (sometimes athletes) that are *indirectly vying for* (competing) a victory *with or alongside* their competitors.
      Take NASCAR for example: when the cars are on the track together, racing against each other, it’s a sport. When they are racing to beat a time trial and set records as the only car on the track, they are competing in a competition. One is a sport, the other is a competition.
      Not all sports and competitions have athletes. NASCAR proves this as you do not need to be necessarily athletic to drive but you do require talent. E-Sports is the same way. All E-Sport players play against each other at the same time but are not athletes - they are talented players. There are also solo games usually called challenges with records that they do NOT call E-Sports when setting speed run records and difficulty challenges.
      Some competitions have no athletes at all. Example are Spelling Bee Competitions, Beauty Pageants, Singing or Music Instrument comoetitions (or graded/scored performances) to name a few.
      This is how I have come to acknowledge the difference of a sport and a competition. Of course, I cannot argue with actual definition nor can I impose my idea of this categorizing on others but this is just my mindset on this subject. I doubt it will change any time soon.

    • @vysearcadia522
      @vysearcadia522 2 месяца назад +3

      @@cyclopsvision6370yah if it requires a judge, that sounds about right. But it’s easy to say all games require a judge too and even a tape measure and a stopwatch are used by judges. Pole-vaulting, for example has a measured system and a judge.
      Referees and Umpires can be seen as judges too. Tennis and Baseball have a singular umpire judge where basketball and football have multiple referee judges.
      It’s just not a good way to define the separation by the judge point.

      @@jenniferlloyd9574 There are many squads that don’t have guys. Girls can perform all of the lifting base moves that this guy performs for his flyer. You see the flyer is actually doing all of the work. She’s working hard to get herself up to the top. My daughters cheered from elementary through college. Both were flyers. One was the Captain of her college squad all 4 years. After she finished her undergrad school, she coached until she needed to leave for grad school. Now she can fix what a cheerleader might break, sprain, or strain. Cheerleading and gymnastics are sports where falls definitely happen while learning new routines. Then medical attention might be necessary.

      When you said that your stepdaughter was also a flyer, I first thought, "oh cool".
      But when you said afterwards, that it had been the greatest YEAR!! of high school, for your stepdaughter, I needed to laugh hard.
      Because i thinkt it is a little disrespectful to the people in the Video, to compare them, with someone who did this only for 1 year.
      Your choice of the words "was a flyer...... TOO..." at first sounded as if the stepdaughter had achieved something comparable.
      However, after only one year, you have made it to the "Hopper" rank at most. 😂
      But it's still far away from being a "Flyer", like this girl in the Video.
      She probably does this her whole life long. 😂

    • @forapps9364
      @forapps9364 16 дней назад +1

      @Trance-2010 Unfortunately, school was not a good experience for her. Her first year, doing something physical and mostly outside, as a flyer was the most fun she had. She loved the company of her older teammates, too. She developed some physical problems, then some emotional ones from having teachers who didn't want to accommodate her learning disability. She started skipping and well, barely made it out of there with a diploma. So, I think it's fair to say, that her first year, when she was light enough to be a flyer and she could hang around the older kids was her favorite year. There is no need to make fun of her for liking that year the best.

      YES!!! So many people pass over the guys/Base because the Flyer is doing all the "cool looking stuff." They tend to only see the danger and risk of injury for the Flyer and praise how much trust they must have in their Base but it works both ways. I've seen Bases get some pretty serious injuries and it was usually because their Flyer wasn't focusing and made an incredibly stupid mistake. The dumbest mistake I saw a lot back in high school was the flyer not controlling their arms and elbowing their base in the face, usually resulting in a broken nose or fractured cheekbone. That's a fairly minor injury compared to the possibilities but still something that would likely never happen with a trusted and confident flyer. If the person who's supposed to be flying is scared or seems distracted I'm not gonna trust that I'm safe being their base. It takes a lot of dedication, trust and confidence from everyone involved to make these amazing stunts happen without injuring someone in the process. The Bases and Spotters are just as talented and deserve equal recognition as Flyers receive.
