Dollar General was the main source for one stop shopping in the town of about 1100 people. It was built the same year we built our house. In the first 5 years. they had probably 3 to 5 different Managers/ Assistant Managers. Three of them seemed so stressed, they were chain smoking outside on their breaks, and then running back in to check out customers. Sadly two of them died from cancer, and the 3rd had a heart attack and became disabled. It was obvious that they were overwhelmed and overworked. Everyone of them had the same story. I can't hire as much staff as I need. I can only offer the staff I have a few hours a week. I lost so much respect for DG because of their unfair practices. Do better DG!
It's true their stores are messy and the shelf always needs to be stocked. I've wondered why the fire codes don't shut them down. The isles never have clear pathways. It's in all of them so it's a company problem. Old Man Turner is flipping in his grave from now the stores are now.
Our store has been robbed 3 or 4 times in a short period of time. DG does nothing for security to help prevent this. The lighting outside is dim. No security cameras etc etc etc.

It’s terrible. I was a CSA and got robbed at gunpoint one night. Told management I don’t want to work nights anymore, and they told me “too bad” and cut my hours to like 10hrs/week at 7.25 an hour. Needless to say I quit. I now work at Lowe’s making twice as much, full time with great health insurance and vacation time. Pay could be better but management actually cares about you
The company was disappointed that the employee had exposed the company of treating its workers like shit ....the company was disappointed in itself for actually treating people badly.....
My daughter worked at a DG , and one night when I went to pick her up, I was checking out and an armed gunman came in to rob the place. The manager was in a row about 20 feet away, and when she heard what was happening she started for the back door. She was going to leave a customer and the other employee there to get shot. My daughter could not open any registers and I told that guy the manager was trying to leave and he went and got her sorry ass. The company never contacted me and as far as I know, he was never arrested. Criminals must be protected at all costs, it seems.
That's the corporate world for you. They really don't care about their employees. It's a numbers game for them. I'm glad she was brave enough to take a stand. Make your voice heard
South Carolina stores are ran the same way. Only a manager or key holder for as long as 8 or 9 hrs by their selves. Put you on salary for $30,000, but then work you for 70 or 80 hrs a week. Doesn’t take a scientist to figure out you really make less, a lot less than minimum wage.
So Dollar General fires a manager for speaking truths that need to be heard by higher ups. Then the higher ups send out a memo or something, spouting the usual corporate line about their concern for their employees and how much they really care. Actions speak louder than words. Wouldn't it be poetic justice if some Corporate higher ups lost their jobs over this? Instead of the over burdened employees.
A friend who worked in a Dollar Tree, Big Lots and Dollar General stated the same thing. No workers and if you are a manager, you may be there by yourself doing EVERYTHING. Because the company does not want to pay for labor or even a living wage. The friend took pictures of a backlot and send the information to OSHA. They fine stores over and over and he rarely sees any of these stores shutdown. In business it's always going to be "PROFIT BEFORE PEOPLE" Why do you think supermarkets are going with self checkouts now. So they don't have to pay 4 cashiers. Just pay 1 cashier watching the self checkout lanes instead. The rest get laid off. Stores making millions and sometimes billions in profit will NEVER share their profits with the people that made them this profitable THE WORKERS.
I do not check myself out I request a cashier; I am not being paid nor am I getting a discount and after walking all over the super center from one end to the other to get things. I am to tired to bag it myself and ring it up. . Bet theft has increased too. It should be for the one or two items only. Some people a while back who looked at the light that scans got really bad eye sight so if your hurt no work men's comp for you. Your not insured for work related with the company. Should be against the law its working people without a wage. They are not giving us anything for doing it. You shop Aldi you get a large cost savings for bagging your own. Walmart you get nothing. I do not work for free my time is valuable.
@@leem200 I see in the near future that every single cashier will be given the boot and every customer will have to ring up their own items. We have to get an employee to pump gas. But that might change. So everyone not living in NJ you are working for the gas company pumping gas in your vehicle. Hope things do change. Many stores within Indianapolis, Indiana are behind 3 to 5 trucks with their inventory which is embarrassing to me as a customer when I take someone with me to a location to give them the basics of coupon shopping. Too many of the employees are OVERWHELMED AND OVERWORKED and are paid low wages. I thank the employees for all you do. Those in the offices don’t even have a clue. So they have AC right but they only have it on when the store opens up (say 8am) and then it shuts off at closing and it's usually only 1 vent for the entire store front.... they gave us a paper about the signs of heat stroke/exhaustion rather than let us even open up the doors for air flow that's how little they actually care when I was an assistant manager I almost passed out when I was just working behind the register because I had the sun hitting me through the huge windows

This is how it is at a lot of places. I would never work for dollar general. I applied to one in my area and they were only paying $10 an hour and wanted to slave you. I got into dollar generals a lot and they have unboxed items all over the store and I ask the employees and it’s due to short staff. It’s a shame
I got close to a stocker at DG. He's such a great person just trying to make it. He was the one who told me about this. He said nothing she said Is a lie. I've gotten close to write a few employees at my local DG. One woman had her babysitter back out and she needed to leave to get her child. The manager asked if she could bring her kid to work with her until the assistant manager came in a few hours later. It's ridiculous. I had an extremely rough pregnancy and found out my son has spina bifida among other issues, two of which were heart defects. I can't tell you how appreciative I was for the employees at DG during all that. They're an extended family to me now. To know what they deal with it appalling. These are good people just trying to survive
How much did the CEO of Dollar General make in 2021? Was $16,618,873 USD The company reports compensation of “median compensated employee was only $17,773; CEO 2021 annual total compensation was $16,618,873 and the ratio of these amounts is 1:935.” There may be room for debate on the ideal pay ratio. Some shareholders vote against when the ratio is more that 1:100. Apr 20, 2022
Another store manager here, and she is absolutely right. Give us 30 hours to spread between 4 sales associates? We can never catch up when they send us 23 rolltainers and JUST enough hours to keep the store open. I got in trouble recently for just scheduling over what they gave us because that was the only way we'd catch up that week.
Woman is right. NC stores are the same way. I always have to pull what I want from the stock buggies in the aisles. They are too busy to stock. Shoplifting is high too. Always find empty boxes when I go.
I went to a Dollar General in Nashville, TN in late February, 2022. The store was woefully understaffed with two people there. A lot of stock was in the aisles in boxes not on the shelves. The clerk who tried to help me could only spare two minutes to show me where the merchandise I was looking for was. It was obvious they were slammed with work. I asked the clerk if this was the way it always was. He said yes and seemed frustrated about it. I know Dollar General has huge profit margins. Abusing their staff by underhiring to make money is just not right!
Dollar general is horrible here in the panhandle of Florida, shelfs empty with boxes of goods unopened because they don't give any hours to employees. The lines are sometimes a 30 minute wait due to 1 employees working and doing it all. We'll at least they don't have to pay for any benefits right! They are not given any..
This is very typical for retail salaried positions. Manager is barely making $3 or $4 dollars an hour because DG cuts the employees at a location but does not change the amount of work to be done. Their profits stay high and store collapses (or the manager if they try to keep doing a good job).Sometimes this happens because of DG corporate and sometimes it happens because regional managers want bigger bonus checks and they do the dirty work for corporate. Many of these cut throat regional managers just move from chain to chain gutting regions for extra profit until the area is destroyed and then they move on to the next chain. Corporate does not care because they made the monthly and quarterly profit goals!!!
@@AtTheBarn You just said you know people who aren't even making $3 or $4 an hour. Are you really that dense, or are you just putting on some kind of act for the losers here.
She's not the only employee going through this. Many videos pertaining to Dollar Generals lack of care towards employees are in TikTok. I'm surprised you the media isn't covering this type of story more often when 1 employee working alone with no help. Like McDonald's, subways, Burger King, waffle House and so on. More concerning is the Dept of Labor not looking into these toxic locations or practices.
I worked at Dollar General for 2 months and it was a nightmare... always mad that there were boxes everywhere but never could allow enough people!!! Everything she says is 💯
My local Dollar General store has new/different employees weekly. I'm not surprised things are that bad with such high staff turnovers. The lines are long since there's only one register open at a time and I've seen customers get tired of waiting in line and just abandon their whole cart then leave. I feel bad for the two employees working that they have to stock back everything left on the cart by frustrated customers.
I AGREE! HEAR THIS! SO MUCH PRODUCT ON THE FLOORS IN HUGE CARTS FOR MONTHS. IVE STOPPED GOING IN THERE AT ALL. THEY'RE ALL A CLUSTER F**K AROUND WHERE I LIVE!
Reading through the comments there seems to be a common denominator. All DG's seem to have the same problems. No inventory and too few employees. It starts at the top with poor leadership, the CEO needs to go.
$general, you are lying. I'm a customer. I see what your company as well as other retail stores do to employees. It's shameful. When you need help don't cut the employees. Your bottom line may not be as huge but please remember, when you die you can't take it with you.
I was at a very busy D.G. in Mustang Ok. On a busy Saturday. And the poor lady was all alone managing the store. It was definitely employee abuse in my opinion.
They don't give them enough help..right not enough hours...and they work the people and low wages....and then u see the management comes in acting all stuck up saying hi to everyone..walking around like they are the shit ..why aren't u there all day ring up people ..stock the goods like u have them doing...I love my Dollar general and shop there always I support our local worker's...But come on Dollar General.....the upper management needs to work there for a week and see what they are dealing with....
Every Dollar General is a mess. Every store is short on help. I recently went into one that had ONE employee working because they are short on help. It was 11am and I asked the employee if they could close the doors to have lunch or just eat at the register. She said neither. She said it was OK because she had left her lunch at home that morning anyway. After leaving I worried about this worker who had only been there for 3 weeks and was alone on this busy Saturday morning. So I went to Burger King and bought her a whopper meal. Told them to hold the ketchup, mustard and mayo and to give me packets as I didn't know if this lady was allergic to anything or not. Got her a tea to drink. Went back and took it to her. Store was busy but since no one was ready to check out I told her to slip to a corner where she could see me and eat. I watched out to see when customers were ready to check out and would motion for her. She'd come check them out and go back and eat til she was finished. She tried to pay me but I wouldn't let her. We were just passing through that town. Had never seen the lady before. Have not seen her since. So it isn't a store problem. It is a Company Problem. I dred going in because there is always stock sitting in the way but no one in there to put it up. Stores are dirty and looks so cluttered.. Merchandise in boxes on the floor or gernies waiting to be put up while shelves are almost completely empty. It is a shame the employees are treated the way they are and worse that the Home Office and Corporation knows it and are too sleazy and money hungry to correct it. I use to love going in and shopping there because they had better prices and were clean and convenient. Now the prices have been getting even higher than Walmart, understaffed, dirty, nasty looking and the overworked employees are grumpy. The Grumpy part is actually the only thing I can understand Why about. The rest is poor management, not at the local levels, but from the higher ups.
May God Bless you extra special for being so kind to someone. More good people in this country that are kind and considerate then we ever hear about. Thank you for caring for someone.
You're correct. Quite often you'll find that while the price of an item may be a few cents lower, the size of the product is smaller than at other retailers.

To be honest, I have never heard a Dollar General employee say anything positive about their job. Seem very difficult to work for.
They are absolutely horrible I was an assistant manager for one

Some do near us, they are elderly and do it part time
It’s terrible.
Only the violent criminals of course.
Boycott all dollar generals
I always see a nice lady working by herself in Clearwater.. They need time make it safe for her and all in dollar general
That's the corporate world for you. They really don't care about their employees. It's a numbers game for them. I'm glad she was brave enough to take a stand. Make your voice heard
its not just dollar general doing it
Dollar Tree is kind of the same way.
Add Walmart to the 💩list. My opinion from experience
80 hours... really,
Yes really....
Hey, just like some truck drivers! One day I grossed $23 for 12 hours of work.
Are RUN the same way, not ran.
My dollar general is the same way they suck.
All cheap store are the same from Walmart to family dollars you name it
The woman is telling the truth
That’s known as GREED‼️
Think about gas stations where most have to pump their own gas. You are working for the gas company for nothing. I live in NJ were we are NOT allowed to pump our own gas. We have to get an employee to pump gas. But that might change.
So everyone not living in NJ you are working for the gas company pumping gas in your vehicle.
Even robots are going to be delivering your food to your door soon. And DoorDash workers are mad as hell at these little robots.
Remember Profit over the people is always the business motto for almost all businesses.
In Michigan they have the same problem or at least near me
I've never seen more than one person working there at a time. They must have high losses from theft. One person can't be everywhere
Theres no payroll , It's like that in alot of retailers.
She did the right thing in calling DG out bcz they need to make changes- they put way too much on the employees
They don’t care about how clean the store is they just care about money people will still shop there regardless
Well I think probably the stores and the company should be held accountable for better working conditions and she should not been fired for this
Warning...always watch when they ring up what you buy my sister caught it...THE PRICE ON THE SHELF SAYS 2.00 DOLLARS BUT WHEN ITS RUNG UP THEY CHARGE 3.00 she has caught this numerous times and made them change it and the employee told her they do it to everybody she called the main office and they hung up on her....THEY ARE RIPPING PEOPLE OFF WATCH THEM YOULL SEE..
True
She needs to keep going with this issue, Dollar Tree is also just as bad! All dollar stores.
Dollar General and Dollar Tee are the graveyards of retail. They don't give a shit about they employees, they don't care if you have to open to close back to back to back. I feel for these managers they suck the life out of.
It is one of the worst companies to work for 😡
I as a customer am very disappointed with Dollar General. This store is where I learned how to coupon shop and gained great and professional relationships with some of the employees. Why don’t DG undercover boss a DG store for 30 - 60 days to see the actual experiences a store attendant or SM ensure each day.
Michigan too.
Shop at the Dollar Tree ,They're cheaper on most items anyway.
Thank You for saying all that this is exactly what I see and know about Dollar General Stores And How They Overwork And Underpay Their Employee’s. It’s ashame and very dangerous how they have one person work a whole store alone for hours. Continued Prayers For All D G Employees.
They never have enough help in any of the stores!!
Seems to be a nationwide issue. DG cares about those profits over anything else.
I worked as a assistant manager at one and she is right about everything not to mention you're pay is crap I literally worked myself into major health problem working for them...and they don't care at all about you..you're just a body to then
Oh I know I was an AM too and I ended up in the ER because I got so bad then they got mad at me for not being able to come into work! I even came in on crutches after I busted my ankle and got yelled at on the phone by our DM for having a drink behind the register even though we didn't even have a break room/area and weren't allowed to have food or drink in the office

No sounds like a machine. Your a machine to them.
A lot of places are like this especially now that don't care about employees because they know the employees need the job.and big companies take advantage of that.and Them.
living wage will be $22.50 per hour in min wage kept up with inflation Do not blamed her walked of a job when they wanted me to do another person job that was no long there doing 2 people job getting paid for 1
You've been liberated & DG's are overrated. It's their loss.
She is 100% right.
A number of years ago it was revealed that the CEO of Dollar general is paid $4,900 an hour, I'm sure it's much more by now, but they won't pay their employees properly or give them benefits or hire enough people, because greed greed greed greed greed.
Anytime I go into Dollar general I make sure to tell the cashier how much their corporate boss makes.
Sounds like revenge on a whistle blower.
Dollar Generals in my area are trash. I won't even shope there anymore. No air conditioning in the summer. Store is dirty
I would have to say the same of DG here in Iowa. Store is messy total disarray. I just stop going in.
Dollar General suck Dollar General does not care about their customer you can complain to the corporate office about it until you're blue in the face and they don't care
My DG has had the same manager for 19 years. Her store was #1 in the US for several years. She hires THE BEST employees who are all happy with their job. She made the old store so much money they built a new one down the road for her! There's a DG much closer to me, but its poorly run, dirty, and poorly stocked.
It's Dollar General!!! What did you expect? You live in the US. They don't care about living wage. Go back to living school, get a living occupation, and get a living wage. That's how it's done in the US.
I've been following that woman on TikTok since she started posting videos. Thousands of us customers and their employees all agree with her. You go into any Dollar General and it is a mess and those workers are so stressed. I have come to know the employees at my local Dollar General and my heart breaks for them @ times.
Yes keep few full timers.

In have a Dollar General near me that has empty shelves and new merchandise sitting on racks blocking aisles. Store employees tell me they are expected to stock shelves and wait on customers at the same time. Moral at this store is obviously pitiful.
My DG store has no AC now the past 5 days & they just got a big fan today . Forced them to stay open in 90. Weather outside but in the store was over 100 !
Oh no they have AC but they aren't run long enough to cool the entire store generally the bathrooms are fine they would rather have workers and customers passout/die from the heat than pay extra to actually cool the store.... (former assistant manager)

This is how it is at a lot of places. I would never work for dollar general. I applied to one in my area and they were only paying $10 an hour and wanted to slave you. I got into dollar generals a lot and they have unboxed items all over the store and I ask the employees and it’s due to short staff. It’s a shame
I will say right now those girls have a tough job at Dollar general they have to restock and be the cashier at the same time what the hell.
Was $16,618,873 USD
The company reports compensation of “median compensated employee was only $17,773; CEO 2021 annual total compensation was $16,618,873 and the ratio of these amounts is 1:935.” There may be room for debate on the ideal pay ratio.
Dollar store get it together. These stores make alot of money so pay them better, then people would stay. Shameful
I guess freedom of speech and the well being of their employees doesn't mean anything to Dollar General. This lady done the right thing.
Woman is right. NC stores are the same way. I always have to pull what I want from the stock buggies in the aisles. They are too busy to stock. Shoplifting is high too. Always find empty boxes when I go.
They can only stock what the trucks bring them, with their workload it's amazing they get the shelves stocked at all
Good for her!
Abusing their staff by underhiring to make money is just not right!
that is retail....
I agree on everything she said, stores always trashy.😎🌴
LOL, the Federal Minimum Wage is $7.25 PH.
@@markmalasics3413 And?
@@AtTheBarn You just said you know people who aren't even making $3 or $4 an hour. Are you really that dense, or are you just putting on some kind of act for the losers here.
She's not the only employee going through this. Many videos pertaining to Dollar Generals lack of care towards employees are in TikTok. I'm surprised you the media isn't covering this type of story more often when 1 employee working alone with no help. Like McDonald's, subways, Burger King, waffle House and so on. More concerning is the Dept of Labor not looking into these toxic locations or practices.
They do look into them and sue the companies but workers rarely file formal complaints with the state. They usually just quit.
Dollar general is a horrible place to work. It is now a TikTok meme, every one of the stores is under-staffed. This company is a joke
Certainly Noble .. I applaud her effort
What she says is true. It was that way when I was a manager of a store in Seminole Florida in 1998.
The 1 by my house has same exact problem, & so do all of the rest in my community.
We've got one where I work ,
Under paid , with " management and people skills " .
She answeres the phone at the front desk .
I AGREE!
No matter where you live the dollar general store’s are under staffed you tell are over staffed because they have do everything
Stores here in GA have been Robbed! My friend was afraid to go to work and got another job because of FEAR!
Oh I loved her Tik Toks! Hope she finds somewhere that appreciates her work ethic.
Dollar General is a terrible place to shop. It’s always a mess, and honestly the prices aren’t lower then any other store.
You're correct.
Quite often you'll find that while the price of an item may be a few cents lower, the size of the product is smaller than at other retailers.
The stores are messy and very under-staffed. Trash in the parking lot, un-shelved stock , but now they have installed self-check-out!
