She's a thing of beauty. Thanks for another great teaching video Todd. Makes me feel good knowing that there are videos out there for the young folks to watch and learn the proper methods, tricks and specs of these, one of the best internal combustion engines ever built.

Thanks Todd - i have been working and fiddling with a 69 triumph bonneville for the last 5 years. the pushrod tubes were always a mystery to me - the top end gasket set comes with huge variations of o-rings and square o-rings. Now it all makes sense. Turns out i had pushrod tubes from a swap meet that were two very slightly different lengths. I have put the top end on 3x times and just thought the o-ring had not seated on one side. hahahahaha. Now i know there are 6x pushrod tube lengths thanks to the explanation in your video. Thanks so much - this has caused me mysterious issues with my head for the last several years. Also the clarification on the correct assembly of the rocker washers was invaluable. I had read the service bulletin and googled for the picture of correct assembly. Your explanation made it crystal clear. Another thanks. awaiting parts and will have it all together and the mystery leak will be gone forever.

Thanks so much Todd! My 1966 TR6R is now completely disassembled, cases went in yesterday to vapour blast. Bearing etc in the post. Head and barrel away at Seager Engineering in Ipswich, UK. Crank off to be machined next weekend. Then the rebuild! Can't wait! With watching this series of great videos and the DVD by Hughie Hancox, 'Triumph Unit 650' I know my engine will be done right and last for another 50 years! I bought the bike as a non-runner so can't wait to fire the baby up! Todd you are a champ!

Hey, I've watched the entire series of this disassembly and rebuild to date , I have learnt so much about bikes from this alone, thank you for putting in the effort and time to record it!
Now I just need a set of tools, an old bike, service manual and I will give it a go myself...

Dear Todd: The teachings covered in your videos are done in a wonderfully didactic way. Effortless even for those who do not have an English Breed. Always keep it that way with that blessedly altruistic spirit. I am grateful to be able to learn and learn teachings that recently had no idea. Maybe one day we can watch the assembly and disassembly of an Ariel Cyclone 650 cc or a B.S.A. A 65. UNTIL!

Thanks very much - I knew about using the hose clamps for ring compressors years ago but thought it was backyard after spending years going on a Snap-On truck. I did not have a ring compressor for a 1970 TR6- I tried the hose clamps (In the backyard) - I could not believe HOW WELL THEY WORKED !!! used them twice so I know it was just not luck. Now I am using HOSE CLAMPS and going to Harbor Freight. After 50 years of pulling wrenches I am still learning, Thanks Todd. Denis from SoCal.

I’ve watched all of these and have thoroughly enjoyed them. Tomorrow I collect my new (to me) 1972 T100R and although it’s the smaller engine the basic architecture and things to look out for will be similar. Amazing that the bottom end hadn’t been apart and yet the sludge trap was clean and the crank journals within tolerance, it must’ve been looked after in the past. Thank you.

Thank you, Todd. I have been building Triumph engines for some years, so am familiar with what you are doing. But it is most helpful to see someone else do it and gain extra tips. Especially the service bulletins and other trivia.
I now use a plastic chopping block cut in half, with horizontal threaded rods to keep the two halves together, either side of the conrods and sitting on the cylinder base studs, when putting barrel over pistons.
    Thanks Todd, great stuff.

Picking up a 1969 Triumph 650 Bonneville next week, mainly the frame, though it looks the the primary and some other parts are there. Price is good, and I wanted a rebuild any way. Hi Todd ! Firstly I would like to thank you for your fantastic knowledge of Triumph engines 💪 I have been building and restoring Triumph engines for 45 yrs and have just received a 1971 T140v which had popped the push rods out of the rocker arm balls on the exhaust side ? Hmmm me thinks 🤔 maybe the head was not re tightened after a rebuild and was too loose ? Or just assembled badly! However on further investigation, found that the rocker spindle washer and sprung washer was wrong as you mentioned! And I think the-sprung washer got caught in the rocker arm end cut and held the up when it should be going down and the push rod jumped out ?

I find its a good way to test if clips are all the way in the groove is to try to rotate them. They will only rotate when theyre fully seated in the groove. Usually I use a small screwdriver for that, either on the end of the ring or on one of the "eyes" (if the clip has them).

Hey! Thanks for the great video. One can never know too much about correct assembly technique for these old motors. Just a thought, around 11:26 or so,re: driving home the Tappet blocks,it never hurts to place said Blocks in the Freezer for an hour or so before assembly. The reason being the small shrinkage will help facilitate insertion,AND removal for re-positioning,on the off-chance the locator bolt does not align with the blind hole in the Tappet Block on first attempt. Thanks again.

Todd's the best...and he sounds a bit like Jim Henson. Being a child of the 70's (and growing up on The Muppet Show) I find that very soothing. I don't even own an old triumph and I'm enjoying watching this. I plan on getting an old Triumph at some point. I want to know what it would entail to rebuild the engine. What's the purpose of creating some ring end gap on the piston rings? Because it expands a little when it heats up?

I have my fanasty parts list all tallied up on your website... gonna take me probly a decade to get everything i need for my 70/71 t120. Took me 36 years to finally get a bike of my own on my 1 income budjet with 7 mouths to feed. But now i have it. Needs the motor rebuilt, a tank, seat, new pipes, and all the little things that are worn out (levers, cables, pegs, rubbers, etc). About 1200$ worth of stuff not including the motor. Hopefully by the time my hair is as long as yours, ill have everything i need and can start the build. Any chance youd be willing to send me a care package?? 😎 🤞 🙏
Thankyou for these videos, absolutely chock full of great useful information. Well done sir.

I'm going to replace some pushrod seals soon, for the first time. Glad to get the exact number as far as the gap goes. (30 - 40 thousands.) Todd said he didn't want to put a feeler gauge between the head and the cylinder with his freshly sprayed gasket. I'm wondering if I should put it together and check the gap first, THEN go and spray the gasket with copper spray. Or is ok to slip the feeler gauge in there with the sprayed copper gasket? I'd love to only have to do this once... but that's not normally my MO. Usually it's the 2nd time that's a charm.

Be sure you install the rocker spindles with the oiling holes facing 'up'. This allows clearance for the oil to exit the holes to oil the rockers and other parts. If the holes are facing down, the pressure against the bottom of the rockers tends to block the oil holes..
