    The April hair jig bite is incredible in the western basin. It's very popular here. Most people here in ohio that walleye fish Erie, also do a lot of inland lake saugeye fishing as well. We are no strangers to jigging!

    Pile of fish in erie. It can humble you as well. Spring is about the only time people will jig erie on the reefs. I see them lake erie rollers got to mitch. It can be miserable being miles away from shore when them rollers are around

    Tom: Check out an old pattern on that lake. Try a weight forward spinner called Erie Dearie. Cast it out, count it down, and either straight retrieve or snap it. In-Fisherman used to write about the lure.

    • @thelonesomefisherman7425
      @thelonesomefisherman7425 Год назад

      Tom: You can Google Erie Dearie and still buy them. Mepps and others make weight forward spinners, too. These were popular before leadcore line trolling, and boottail swimbaits took over. They used to tip the lure with a gob of nightcrawlers, but you might find a soft plastic tail that would fit the lure, too.

    Tom, noticed what looked like a finger print on one of your cameras. Looked like the last of a moon in the morning sky. It might have been. Great work! Noticed on some of your long filming that your boat looks pretty narrow but i know your boat is wider. Love the action on those spinning rods you use, once hooked, they aren't getting off. Safe travels my boy.

    Did 5 trips out there mostly trolling and drifting, best luck with spinners n crawlers and fortunate to have gotten 3 of 30" and over. Different limits for different states with Ohio 6 per day with no possession limit. With the population in the lake they want you to keep everything you catch. Cranks and casting with Erie Dearies also work. Fantastic time and trying to do one more time while I'm still able.

    Big hair jig bite in April for eater males. However, for the big girls trolling don’t forget to keep some short leads out. The big prespawn females will be shallow sunning themselves.

      Just to clarify, I mean , high in the water column not necessarily in shallow water. So they may be suspended 8 feet down in 30 fow.

    So the week you were on erie.. was by far the most annoying bite ever. Everything happened at the exact same time. Moon/temps/spawn/sporadic weather. The following week leveled out and we hammered down on them. You definitely had the right areas, it was just a pissy fish problem more than anything. Im sure you found that school of fish to the east, all 6 miles of it lol.

    Not saying it's a bad time to fish Erie but the Maumee River would have been a better choice. Most guys are wading in the river but there are plenty of places to put in a boat. I have a few buddies that have caught up to 100 this year.
