Robert Plant's career was at a quiet point by the early 90s. A lot of people did not like his, as Robert put it in an interview: "80's sh*t." Jimmy's stuff in the 80s was not great in my opinion and who ever came up with the concept for the Outrider album cover should have been permanently unemployed. They were out again trying to sell their product, and unlike the 70s that was one success after another, they were middle aged with a sketchy recent history. It must have been frustrating, I remember in an interview Robert was complaining about always having to go "pan in hand" begging for an audience with a new release.
I know what you mean. These two should've started a comedy tour. I think I like their interviews as much as their music. Too f-ing funny for words. Both of them :)
I keep watching this over n over again.. just too funny for me.. seems like they really hope the session to be over soon enough n yet still having fun throughout the interview..robert's eye rolling , jimmy's yawning n their bursting laughter just cracks me up all the time..
You can tell Jimmy and Robert are just enjoying the hell out of this. LoL More like, they'd rather be doing just about anything else in the WORLD than be at this particular Japanese translated press conference! If not for Roberts upbeat sense of 'humour' this, I'm sure, would have been a complete and total disaster for one and all. ;o)
Anna Nydegger - Actually Jimmy looks calmer here than past interviews.. Robert knows & takes the lead.. that’s why they play so well together.. I love that❣️
12:30 to 15 mins ish. Fascinating. They are aware of the mics though. Great, really great even interviews with these guys are great, put me in a good mood.
Jimmy was never comfortable in the interviews. But he feels comfortable in Japan in general. He has a great emotional connection with Japan, I know that.
I think he’d be more comfortable, if he had his guitar in his hands, but then he’d breakout playing it. With this interview, that wouldn’t be a bad thing.
The "lost in translation" here is not just in languages, much more about cultural differences. Japanese are serious (proper) people, humor is discouraged, unappreciated and easily misunderstood especially in a foreign language. Conformity and uniformity are big, creativity or individualism not so much. The young ones do, however, idolize American (western) arts, music in particular. I think Robert and Jimmy behaved as well as could be expected considering the awkward questioning and format.
I've seen a few of these press conferences with Plant & Page and they're pretty damn fun to watch. I like the 1994 press conference in Australia, which is pretty funny too. I think Robert Plant answered the question about JP Jones in several ways. What I get from his answers is he and Page are on the same page, no pun intended, musically and JP Jones isn't. If you watch their concerts, Plant defers to Page a lot. I get the feeling these two have a pretty good working relationship as well as a friendship. I think they know not including JP Jones looks bad but it is what it is. Frankly, I'm sick of the JP Jones questions and, I don't think the reporters care that much anyway except to cause controversy. Anyway, if you ask most of us, we can watch these two talk all day.
Sorry, I have to respond to my own comment. Sometimes, I'm in the mood for a concert. Other times, I have to watch their press conferences. God, these two are crazy and so damn funny. Both display a sense of humor, as well as intelligence. I like good looking rock stars but, I like smart and funny men even more. I love this press conference, must have more :)
@@kimberlywalker3970 This is the first time I've seen this press conference. It is so funny, I can't help feeling bad for them at times they , mostly Jimmy, look so tired and bored. I agree with you, they are both very intelligent, witty men ! Love them so much❤
I so love coming to across all these interviews I’ve never seen before.. I have to say I miss Robert & Jimmy playing together as they just have that ‘click’ together..Interviewers always underestimated their intelligence..
So funny; laughed all the time. At 3:07 Synchrony level expert :both rise glasses at the same time. 35:00 Jimmy lays his head on the table - wishing to be far, far away from there. Bloody hell! Best part Rob sort says... well Jimm´s got relatives living in Japan; he had a good time here last time buying bootlegs f* amazing. Give Jimmy a guitar and let Rob sing, for God´s sake!
This is the most goddam entertaining thing I've ever seen! Hahahaha P.S. Love ya Percy and Pagey! Arigato Gozaimasu! 26 years gone, holding on, holding on.
Robert is more comfortable I think having been the frontman, & a more extrovert. Jimmy & JPJ seemed more introverted, unless comfortable around who they’re with. Jimmy uses his guitar to do his talking, he can make that thing talk & sing.
Is nobody gonna acknowledge Robert saying boo when asked to give a message to Japanese press idk if that’s really what he said but I seriously laughed so fucking hard
OMG this reminds me when I was in church the priest had Cockeye's I could not stop laughing so the priest made me sit up front!!!!!! I think this is a laugh riot. Jimmy looks like he is trying to be nice but they both cracked me up.
21:41 Robert was looking for someone familiar in the audience, but them turn on Jimmy Page at his side ..I think Japanese just should ask Robert and Jimmy how they get that curly hair
This would've been a great Saturday Night Live parody, ..with John Belushi as Page, .. Jane Curtain as Plant. ..Belushi was such an Ace at mimicking people, he would've Nailed Pages mannerisms, .. 😂🎉

Their body language says they would rather be rocking out on stage to a sold out audience😎.. Not to mention jimmy downin that water,, probably dehydrated and hung over👍😅
..alot of those Zeppelin songs, Robert Plant wouldn't be able top or match at this point, not in the same style or without at least changing parts of the songs anyway. It took everything he had to perform them at those heights even when he was in his 20's. It would be ridiculous to try to complete with ones Younger self as Nothing remains the same much less the Song when performed live, one cannot stay at those heights forever any more than one can stay 25 forever, it's an unrealistic goal or expectation.🔥 🌌
6:27 “It’s not like a kind of Pink Floyd stroke Emerson Snake and Charmer type of revival” The band YES called ELP Henderson Snake and Charmer and ELP called YES “Maybe”.
They boot scooted their asses out of there quick, as soon as it was over, like a race out of chairs & out the door LOL. I’d have loved being a fly hanging close to them, I’d love to know what all they were saying, & in the car when they left.
I would have been falling asleep if I was them. Those Japanese people apparantly love to talk more than actually interviewing their subjects. Page and Plant were actually a little entertaining in their ,for the most part, misery.
This is the worst set-up for an interview with English speaking subjects in a foreign country I have ever seen. Whoever set this up should do one more and then quit the business.
When something is unleaded, such as gas-o-line for example, other various heavy metals replace it, and or are mixed in, such as mercury, barium, irons, and other toxins. It is a great pun. With the rock genre, the mind flies around instead, the purpose of the music in the first place and if LZ does not get the mind to the highest level possible, then you are grounded anyway, body, spirit and soul.
They're like two schoolkids who'd rather be outside playing football.- Most wonderful!

Around 8:12 I love Jimmy's laugh. I missed it the first few time but, it cracked me up tonight :)

James Cameron I wish we could peel the sound back and only hear what they were saying and their banter. Hilarious!
Robert always cool, calm, and in control and Jimmy nervous and uncomfortable as usual.
Is Robert practicing Islam at this point? He says inshalla and God is great and something else that sounded like he might be leaning that way.
Anna Nydegger I think that's him just messing around. like just saying stuff that other people have no idea what they mean and laughing to himself

Robert points out that Jimmy was previously in Japan with "that chap." He cannot even say Coverdale's name, ha ha!

thank you - it's great ! [ anybody remember laughter ? ]
