    It’s amazing how a car that received endless praise in 2016, still garners that same compliments 9 years later with just an update good job Volvo . 3 Xc90s and all these years later keep it up

    It's a testament to good design when a car that was originally introduced in 2016 still looks fresher and better than competitors in 2025 with some tweaks. I have a 2019 V90 T6 Cross Country and have been thinking about upgrading to an XC90... this update makes it a lot more tempting! To those that are scared of Volvo's perceived reliability: I've never had any issues with my car, just regular maintenance at the Volvo dealer. Will definitely be a repeat buyer.

      I forgot that 2016 was when that was designed like that. Even in 2024 it looks so modern. I love Volvo for that

      I own a 2021 V90 T8 and am also tempted, also because I have the older electric motor with less power and range. I can vouch for reliability. Not a single issue in three years, no rattles, the B&W sound system is the best I’ve heard (and I’m an audiophile)… I like it better than the Burmester system I heard in a Porsche Panamera.

      About this 2025, Car and Driver says “We'd be quick to dismiss this mild overhaul as too little, too late if the XC90 weren't so good to begin with. We still prefer it over many newer competitors.”

      @ I like the higher seating position and the extra storage. When I bought my V90 I didn’t have the budget, but next year I might. I also feel that the B&W sound system’s acoustical performance benefits from the larger space.

      One of the most significant changes (to me) is removing the roller that cycles through the drive modes. I don't understand why Volvo stubbornly sticks with wired-only CarPlay when cars 1/3 of their cost have wireless. Having now used both, I can't imagine ever going back to the wired version -- wireless was a game changer. Crazy they are so uncompetitive on this feature.

      @@TheArk12345 I never use Apple Music so I can't compare. I have extensively used Spotify wired and wirelessly both through CarPlay and there's no discernible difference. That said, if wired Apple Music is better, there's nothing to spot people with wireless CarPlay from also opting to use a wire when they prefer it. But the wireless was game changing in our use of CP. We only used it on long drives in our XC90 wired but use it every single drive in our cars with wireless.

We’re planning a family trip from Houston to Grand Teton to Yellowstone to Mt. Rushmore and home next summer. Give me a car that you can fill up during a pee stop and has a spare tire. I wouldn't use this as an example of a reliable simple hybrid. Just look at the Toyota examples for that. No idea why Volvo would use a turbo, supercharger and hybrid system all combined. Seems overly complex and will likely be a money pit after 5 years. Toyota's system is designed for efficiency and great fuel economy. This Volvo is just trying to grab the hybrid name so customers think they are saving the planet when in reality, this doesn't really get that much better fuel economy than other non-hybrid comparable vehicles.

    • @billurban1581
      @billurban1581 2 месяца назад +1

      Consumer reports uses subscribers, reports, JD power uses verified owners. 2. Reliability is often loosely defined. No one is measuring how many times a car left you stranded, which is the ultimate reliability question. 3. IF YOU DO THE MATH, and leaving aside anecdotes, JD power says a Volvo is likely to have one more issue than “the reliability leader” Lexus, in the third year ownership. Much ado about not much.

      You might be right to worry about four cylinders / 2 litres except, in this case, the electric motor more than makes up for it. 523 lb ft is quite a bit of twist . . . (compare, it is rated to pull 5,000 lbs).
      The motor actually delivers 445 lb ft to the rear wheels before that four-cylinder knows you put your foot down. And during the whole process, measurably less stress on those four-cylinders.

    As a Chevrolet Volt Ⅱ owner, I'm looking for a Volt-equivalent SUV, which GM shockingly doesn't make yet, so I'm surprised to consider Volvo for the first time.

    • @Molishious
      @Molishious 4 дня назад +1

      I have a 21 Rav4 Prime which I once saw described as being the type of car GM should have made after the Volt. It’s has better efficiency, more horsepower in EV mode, better reliability a larger battery and a lot more range than the EX 90. If you want more luxury there is the Lexus RX 450 phev which has the same drivetrain. There is an NX version too which is the same size as the RAV4. I could argue for the EX 90 easily as it is a beautiful car but for my priorities, EV mode horsepower and range and Hybrid efficiency the Toyota’s are better. I think most people and reviewers miss the EV horsepower aspect as around town you don’t need that much but the Toyota’s system allow you to get up to freeway speeds without needing the help of the engine. For many this wouldn’t matter. I’m hoping for a decent jump in range on the 2026 Rav4 PHEV. I’ve had my car since 21 and it’s been great. The best of both worlds. I’m also not a fan of Volvo’s climate controls that seem to all need one tap to bring up a menu that you can then adjust. The Toyotas all have normal climate controls with lovely knobs and switches. Driving a friend’s Volt is what got me looking at PHEVs. It is too bad they didn’t make a Blazer PHEV.

    • @sovereignty14
      @sovereignty14 4 дня назад

      @Molishious , thanks very much for all that insight; I'll look into those vehicles. The Volt's 85-km pure EV range will be severely missed. Given the way people have resisted the pure-EV push by governments, I think GM pulling their Volt technology off the shelf for a Blazer or Equinox is inevitably very soon. However, GM actually is finally making money from EVs (not accounting for manufacturing-facility building costs).

    • @Molishious
      @Molishious 4 дня назад +1

      @ Yes it felt like it took too much time from the Bolt to the latest EVs but after a bumpy start they seem to be doing well. I’ve driven the Prologue, the Blazer EV and the 2025 Equinox EV, all in AWD. I liked the Equinox best as it’s smaller so it was closer to what I was used to. .After that the Prologue was very pleasing in its normalcy. The 67 km that the Prime gets might be enough for you. I liked sitting up a bit higher and the Rav has great cargo capacity for the size vehicle. I still enjoy driving it every time I get in after almost 4 years. Guessing you are in Canada from your use of metric. Looks like we are in a trade war as of yesterday.

    Everyone went back to buttons. Volvo is still stuck in dated "no buttons" time.

    In the market to replace a Mercedes GLS 450 and this XC90 seems like a good replacement. Until I saw the price for the 2025 XC90 T8… 90k!?

    Did they just say wired apple carplay? Even Honda Civics have wireless carplay now. Reminds me of when Honda had Bluetooth standard and BMW were still trying to sell $70k cars without Bluetooth. Huge miss, and a dealbreaker for 2024. Guess I'll hold out til 2026 to see if they can make the update. I prefer this over the EX90-I don't want to go all electric.

      Most likely stock footage/press media footage. I can see they are in Sweden when driving.

    I don't understand why it's so hard for luxury auto makers get something as fundamental as Apple Carplay or Android Auto working out of the gate, when more pedestrian car companies can do it at launch as standard equipment. It's like these car engineers and designers don't own smartphones or something. I lose faith in their capabilities when they can't do something as simple as that. Volvo, are you listening??

      Because its compatibility and execution isn’t fully there. I had a VW that had wireless Apple CarPlay and it was painful to restore once it dropped off.

    For anyone looking at this car, I own a 2016 XC90 T6 Inscription and there is hardly any difference between mine and this new one. If you choose to buy a preowned XC90, you'll be missing hardly anything and saving tens of thousands of dollars. Don't let the difference in infotainment fool you, there is no difference in functionality, only the way it looks; and the driver display is far superior in the older model with cool themes you can select. Mine also has the Bowers & Wilkins sound system and it's identical to this one. Don't waste your money. You're getting nothing extra special with this new XC90. My 2016 XC90 is selling on the market for only $20k CAD. So unless you really think the new looks is worth $80k more, do yourself a favour and check the preowned ones. Thank me later.
