Probably the best vid I've seen on the views of the Sabres off season...totally legit views. Get a top 6 winger and maybe trade Byram for Rasmus Andersson and you now have a playoff contender. That D is just to heavy on left hand shots. The D is still to soft, nobody is physical enough to clear the front of the net.
Thanks for the feedback, don't think they'll trade Byram after just getting him in March. Look forward to getting back to our regular Sabres episodes around mid-September following the Prospects Camp. Stay tuned! We'll see how they look come the preseason and start of regular season. No excuses now.
I think just moving out Skinner could be a vast improvement. Scoring 30-40 goals a yr didn't mean crap when he gave up 40-50. A career minus 130 player.
Especially if they don't plan to use him in their top-six plans. His skillset is not suited for a bottom-six role as we saw a few years back under Ralph Krueger. Not the best defensively responsible player as you mentioned. McLeod will be a much needed upgrade in that department.
@@khuffy1737 Agreed. The idea of Farabee has actually grown on me. Lindy would play him more than Tortorella does in Philly. Not a good fit in a Bottom 6 role but he would have Top 6 opportunity in Buffalo.
@@TmanTyler619 that would mean Zucker be the LW on Line 2 which wouldn’t be great but if they don’t make an addition in the Top-6 it will be him or Benson who plays with Cozens.
I do hope we get another top 6 player but if not our fans need to have more faith in the current players. Really on paper this is a team that should make the playoffs. Especially with Lindy’s system.
@@bjarczyk 100% agree. Peterka, Benson, Quinn will step into bigger roles immediately and you’d hope that Kulich or Rosen will make the team out of camp as well to step into roles. Skinner was expendable in that sense, Zucker was a safe reliable Middle Six option who can play LW2 if needed but slots in better as LW3. Thanks for the thoughts!
This roster is a solid 80-88 point roster as long as we don't suffer any serious injuries. We might be a little better for 8-12 minutes a game with the slightly improved & harder to play against fourth line, but our fourth line had a good plus minus rating last year, so... Third line needs to score 45 goals with a positive +/-, pp is a real concern though, if Thompson, Quinn & Tuch return to form they might sneak in the playoffs this year as long as UPL has the same kind of year he had last year. Joker & Bryson are serious problems not capable of properly defending in front of the net or winning battles along the boards or in the corners. All in all, the signings will hopefully maintain the status quo or a little better but I fear these moves won't move the needle much.
@@johnthornton7763 the Top 6 needs to perform again to what they’re capable of. They all had career years two seasons ago and none were able to replicate it past season. Bottom six will be much more productive and useful, hopefully taking some pressure off the Top six to make up all of the production. UPL will need to replicate that he can carry the load again but they believe in him to do it, so it seems. Thanks for the thoughts!
Agree with the original post! Although we are better bottom 6, I still don't see this team making the jump Into The playoffs. UPL will not be as solid and overall our top 6 is just not solidified enough to go against the top teams in our division and conference. It was a huge let down this offseason. I was really hoping to get Patrick Kane, but nope! Detroit will be ahead of us once again. Ugh!!! Such a shame and I want to be wrong. More than anything I really do! I really want the Sabres with Lindy take all the criticism and run with it and prove everyone wrong. The talent is there, I just don't see it coming together, unless Lindy has one more burst to rekindle the 05-06 team. Anyone Who remembers that team knows that they were not ever suppose to be that good, yet bought into the system and imo was the best team that year and should have won the cup. As much as I want a cup in Buffalo just taking the step back into the playoffs is a huge success for this season if it happens! Once there, anything can happen!
When have we ever played a season that didn't have any major injuries? When has a NHL team done it. Injuries happen. You gotta have guys to call up and fill in with comparable play.
We got some skill and talent in Rochester but also lost a decent amount of guys that were on the edge and could replace some of the new guys if they go down. We don't got speed guys with physicality so hopefully none of them get hurt and our top 6 only take a few injuries spread out from eachother
@@aarongriffin4901 Organizational depth is key and that's why the development of all these young top prospects in Rochester is paramount to the Sabres having sustained success going forward, for like you said, when injuries unfortunately happen.
@@BlackIjs Just tough to know what Samuelsson is going to be like coming off the injury and if Ruff envisions him as a Top 4, which would make Jokiharju expendable, or if he’s a bottom pair guy. Not saying Bryson is great by any means, but he could be a reliable 7th D or slot in for injuries. Ryan Johnson plays a role as well.
Package up Krebs & Greenway & trade them. Krebs needs a new start & a fair chance. Greenway is and always will be nothing more that a 4th line player. He will drag down the 3rd line if they keep him there.
Definitely agree that these two players still have league-wide value/intrigue and you could open up some spots for those Rochester guys to come up. Trading one or both in the right scenario/return is smart. Thanks for the thoughts.

When was Girgenson fast? 😮
For a 4th line player he had pretty deceptive speed. One of his better underrated qualities IMO.
I think you over-rate Bryson and under-rate Samuelsson.
