As soon as I found out she was from Delaware it all made sense. I was born and lived most of my life super close to where she did, and so many of us from around there are like this. Deadpan, blunt, mildly sarcastic but not maliciously.
My mom and I have an ongoing inside joke where we often utilize the essence of the 'counter scene gag' from this skit whenever we're telling/showing each other how to do something ... it makes us laugh every time!! 😄🙌🏼
Just an observation: I'm pretty sure a comment like yours could only ever come from someone who uses the grammatically correct phrasing "My mom and I". I bet your mom is as much of a grammar Nazi as mine is. 😄
Same! Only we reference this skit when explaining the only possible way that a strange facial or head injury could've occurred. Like, recently the baby fell and got a scratch under his nose. When my MIL asked how he could've gotten scratched there my husband and I, thinking the same thing, reenacted the counter scene simultaneously and then we started laughing hysterically. She thought we were crazy 🤣🤣 Even funnier, the baby's name is Bryce and I just realized Fred is called Bryce in this skit!

How do I not remember this skit? I was obsessed with Aubrey Plaza for a while and loved this show, how did I not know it existed? I own all the seasons!
I think I just found the inspo for the funniest part of this skit that I laughed at some many times...that cactus in the eyes kitchen scene. I was just watching Bob Newhart and in Season 5 Episode 19, Howard does something so similar at around 14 minutes in, that I feel nearly sure that Fred saw that at some point and inspired this scene. I guess there's nothing new under the sun lol. Still Fred's version is much funnier.
This is eerily similar to a couple I used to house sit for. Although they had a dog and a whole closet of food for him and they never left any food for me.

"Oh, we don't observe trash day". I lost it.
We'll be back in 2 hours
Jesse, I think you'll find if someone asks out of curiosity what your trash day happens to be, you will automatically give them this answer.
That’s one of my favorite lines from this show, I use it all the time. 😂
I lost my shit about the counter oh my god
+cjxyloto "and then there's that", clever
Oh yeah had me in tears
You've got a lot of smashing of the temples, as you try to...regain your balance.
He looks like a ventriloquist dummy to begin with and the countertop accident looks like someone slamming a doll on the counters. 😆😆
He looks so goofy in this sketch,i'm actually thinking something like that could happen to him 😂👍
Smashing of the temples -- sounds like a great 90's grunge band
Makes me think of the band Stone Pumpkin Pilots.
Perfect! Lol
I thought the smashing of the temples was the 3rd chapter of Leviticus.
@G Sav Yes! I like your acronym better 😉
Stone Temple Pumpkins
Fred Armisen is one of the few comedians who can have nearly all clean content and still be hilarious.
REALLY good point . It's not a lost art .
I never thought about it that way, but you're totally right!!
John L Tim Hawkins as well
Totally agree, the only other non-blue comedian that kills me is Tom Papa! There must be more but can't think of them right now.
Mulaney
The part about the counter had me rolling
"Smashing of the temples..."
not on the counter I hope.
I swear Aubrey Plaza needs to teach a master class in non-acting acting. Her 'straight man' delivery is just too good.
Perfectly Said anyone else would have ruined it by Overacting
isnt that just acting? lol 😋😁 if she is acting like she is not -acting ... well ... 😉😂 im kiddin im kiddin

The one time Aubrey isnt the most awkward person in the room lmao
they kind of missed the boat on this one, they should have had her play the homeowner
Also the feminist bookstore owners/workers.
I know i was just thinking that. It's usually the other way around!
Only in Portlandia is Aubry Plaza the only sane and rational one.

Fred is such an amazing actor. He's one of those people who you couldn't tell if he is being serious or not. His expressions are so convincing ❤😂❤

Fred's face when he's explaining "smashing of the temples" is freakin priceless

This may be the weirdest sketch in human history. It almost feels like a horror movie.
