    JANNPAUL, thank you for your videos, they are excellent! Question: why don't jewelers coat diamonds underneath with gold/silver to prevent light leakage and increase light return?

    • @jannpaul920

      Hiya sergy, that's a really interesting and excellent question, I really should look at our channel comments more I apologize, the term used dating way back BC, is called foiled backing. where they would use a foil of variant colors to improve the overall look of the gem or diamond (antique cuts leaked alot of light). there are many many methods of doing this and was popular during the 1500's of antique cuts during georgian times, some even use mirrors, which is kinda funny when you can almost see yourself. But regards to your question in particular, whether is it a gemstone or diamond. leakage occurs when light simply passed right through the crown and through the pavilion of the diamond; coating it with gold/silver, would indicate that you'd simply see the gold/silver metal right through the diamond crown. 1. you'd definitely see a very evident metallic appearance in the diamond albeit from far it does "seem whiter". 2, the reflection and refraction that occurs off the back(in this case metal) wouldnt mimic how a diamond actually would look, and depending on the light source, being pinpoints or a large white light source would look very far off from how a diamond would look like naturally. then in the case of actual maintenance; tarnishing of silver/gold what ever surface coating is problematic(a diamond with severe light leakages is already a hassle to maintain once dirt and oil gets trapped underneath the ring, even more so once the coating fades, the recoating process is definitely a whole reset of the entire ring. Back to modern times, no one really does so anymore cause of its unnatural appearance and the jeweler tends to be deemed as scrupulous. I hope this helps answer your question! :) - Paul

    I found a couple cushion cuts with this very unique arrow pattern like yours... They were extremely rare however... Most looked like the crushed ice in the video.
    That being said, the arrows seemed to touch the corners. Same number of arrows as yours, but slightly rotated....
    What's going on there? Would that still be an indication of a good cut? Or should the arrows touch the same spots on the edge as yours?

    Would it be possible to optimize the crushed ice look to remove leakage but keep the crushed ice aspect, or is this an optical contradiction in itself? Same question for the radiant crushed ice look.

    Well, that fire and sparkle looks like my moisanite ring. Moisanites sparkle as no other gem and they are a fraction of the price of these diamonds and available right away.

    Can you make a lab grown version of this in an elongated cushion? Say 1.14 L/W??!

  • @juanchofrancois5369
    @juanchofrancois5369 2 года назад +1

    I believe these stones are lab grown diamonds. So they should not be expensive even if the cut is ideal as this video says.

      They are lab diamonds , but they are "Super Ideal Excellent Cut H&A"
      98/112 faceted , color: def / clarity:
      F
      They are half the price of a DeBeers earth diamond of type 2a !

    You are not comparing a traditional cushion. Your comparing a crushed ice. Crushed ice is what people want to see when they look at it when they pick crushed. So this is purely based off light.

    • @roden70

      I thought so too. The facets of the gem are less visible in a crushed ice diamond.
