    Thanks iceandfire. The vintage's are way more rare and harder to find with superior optics. I was literally pulling my hair out of my head trying to find them with acceptable ASET/Dxray results and is why I invented the worlds first "Ideal" vintage cushion (and round too), the August Vintage line. So I have the "vintage" structure taken care of. With modern faceted cushions I can generally locate a beauty for clients who are searching.

    Brilliant video! Absolute wonderful. I know you mentioned that moderns were the most common facet structure. Do you think it's easier to find a diamond with good dxray and aset performance in the modern or the vintage? Or is the likelihood of a good cut about the same for each type? Thanks

    I have a question, do you have a sample video on similar cut,clarity carat color of other certification companies such as EGL vs GIA . In other words EGL can give a VS1, E, GOOD and also GIA can have one of the same but there color may differ. My understanding is that GIA is more stict in grading just do not see a video on similar specs by diff lab certification companies

    Excellent content! Would you be so kind to advise if setting a color D H&A cushion diamond on a yellow gold band with the basket, hidden halo and prongs all in platinum would make the diamond look yellowish?

    • @DiamondInfoMan
      @DiamondInfoMan  Год назад +1

      Good question.. The yellow gold in the band could reflect off the diamond which could make the diamond look slightly warmer than a "D" color in some cases. In most cases however, the diamond will still be looking icy white.

    Jonathan! Unsure how often you check you're backdated videos, but I'v been doing research for the last few days on cushions much like a person with an obsessive compulsive disorder, and I would love some feedback. Just bought a diamond online. No not from you. Apologies. GIA cert, specs on the diamond are perfect other than the I color. What's the deal with brilliant cushions having the exact same facet diagrams as round brilliant diamonds? How do they compare? (8 facets, clover shape). Cheers!

    What's your opinion on Henri daussi cushion cuts?

    • @DiamondInfoMan
      @DiamondInfoMan  7 лет назад +1

      There are pros and cons to these. The pros is the spread. They are cut from flat rough and look notably larger than their carat weight. The cons ... dead as a door nail. Put one alongside of an August Vintage and the difference is keenly obvious.

  • @sjay149

    There are three points to be made:
    1. Never buy any diamond that is not engraved.
    2. Always look at a minimum of three stones in the same price range, at the same time, and under the same light.
    3. When you buy from the display case, don't let them clean it for you, don't let them take it anywhere, don't let them wrap it for you, and don't let it out of your sight.
    Why #1 #2, & #3?
    1. Jewelers mostly subcontract their repair work out and these subcontractors (like you or I) can buy inferior stones online and have them delivered in a couple of days. So...they will see your stone, which in not engraved, evaluate it (that's their line of work), and order one that is the same size, but cheaper, by a few hundred dollars. When the lesser stone arrives they swap your nicer stone for the lesser stone. To prevent this you must own an engraved stone (even if it's lab grown) or you must stand and watch the repair being made.
    2. When three diamonds are viewed next to each other...one will jump out at your eyes. The other two will be returned to the supplier and eventually they will be sold site unseen online. Online buyers never know that they're buying retail store rejects.
    3. When you buy something out of a display case, you need to know that it is available in bulk. That is, the Jeweler has two or three just like it in the back safe. Nothing wrong with that as there is an annual Jewelry Show in Las Vegas every Memorial Day(ish), but remember that the Jeweler puts their nicest one in the display case.

    • @DiamondInfoMan
      @DiamondInfoMan  9 месяцев назад

      All wise advise! #1 & #3 could be considered shandy practices, so we don't partake in them, however there are indeed many retailers that do.

    @rhdtv2002 Hi rhdtv, While I don't have a video on this subject it WOULD make for a good subject for a video. I can tell you of many instances we've found EGL diamonds to be very liberally graded. So much so that they did not represent a better value but in fact a worse value for our dollar. Also, there more than 1 EGL lab and even among them are various levels of liberality. :-S Good question and perhaps the next slew of EGL diamonds we have here we'll make a video of the subject.

    What kind of cut is a diamond that has facets on the out side of the diamond looks like a bunch of triangles on the diamond and has no visible flat table on the diamond , apposed to the facets being on the inside of the diamond and a visible flat table on the top ?

    • @DiamondInfoMan
      @DiamondInfoMan  8 лет назад

      +Tracy Massie Hi Tracy. Just for clarification all diamonds have facets on the outside. The one I believe you are referring to though with no table is a rose cut. While they don't have a table facet, at the same time they generally do not possess a pavilion (bottom half). Google rose cut diamond and see what pix you pull up.
