As someone with small thumbs, I only ever use straps for hang work. Like Aimee said it totally changes the feeling of the turnover and finish. That being said if you don't compete you can train however you want, and if you do compete you can still train however you want.

I can't even put into words how disappointed I am in the Straps/no straps convo. In weightlifting, you do not need to put any declarative statement on a made lift. If you train weightlifting for years....there's no way there's that sizeable of a difference between your top-end strap/no strap singles.

If you can add 30kg on your snatch with straps, you need to sort out your grip….. I found straps give me a little more consistency in reps but nothing on top end 1rm

I think we should have a new sport, where you're given a bar, and you can load any weight you want and the barbell has an accelerometer, and the sport is, whoever can achieve the highest power output, as defined by watts, ie mass of bar, and the data from the accelerometer. Over some fraction of a second, my gut says something in the 1/4 second range. That should be long enough to mitigate any spikes from bar whip, while short enough to realize that humans have a small range of motion where maximum power is possible. I suggest we call the sport, strength lifting, since silly people made powerlifting a sport about static strength on three different lifts.

When they ask you what’s your biggest numbers you just say your biggest numbers with straps or not but when they ask you your numbers in competition you just say your competition records!

Relatively new to WL, but isn't the hand position slightly different between hook and straps. I feel way more confident in the turnover with straps
If you can lift without straps more than the person you're talking to with straps, then you don't have to declare straps
