They literally told them to go out and speak gibberish to each other then added the subtitles later. It’s incredible watching them making everything up with a straight face.
Latka is a brilliant character, and the reason I love Taxi, but Jim! Jim is incredibly funny. Imagine a Jim and Latka spin off - like dysfunctional Perfect Strangers.
When I hear the theme song, I get bluesy and homesick. Not sure how and why. Maybe it’s because I wish I could be a kid again and go back to the years of Taxi. Maybe it’s a reincarnation thing too. Who knows. Anyone else feel that way?
Thanks Orson, I too was blown away by Kaufman's sincerity in this. He's just so slender here. Robin Williams was great, but Andy is so transparent here, and it seems effortless in comparison. What could've been...
I don't know what I love more... Casting a women younger than Andy as his mom. The made up language that sounds like something right out of a European country. Or that snazzy suitcase
Rumor has it, Andy Kaufman always thought poorly of OJ. Going so far as to say he believed OJ would be a killer if not a baller. That was a joke he stuck in there, after they were disgusted by indoor toilets and dogs and eating chicken. Truly a genius
I know this is just comedy. But I’m an emigrant, and to say good by to one’s family is a hard thing to do , i to am almost in tears when he said good by .
6:36 - This was shot in the early 80s, when OJ Simpson was a famous footballer and Mr Nice Guy, unconvincing to play a killer like the Terminator. Shocking in retrospect.
We all know this - I have gone thru this - leave all my loved ones and come to a different country - much crying, so much pain - but then why do we do it? Because we HAVE to - it's part of growing up And that's the difference between Heaven and Reincarnation Heaven is the home that we MUST leave - we are grown up now, our parents can't take care of us forever, we have to leave the nest Heaven is the nest and Reincarnation is us leaving the nest Heaven is the past and Reincarnation is the Future Heaven is the Childhood that we must leave behind and Reincarnation is the Adulthood that we must embrace
LOL, Latka quoting fractions to Jim is just priceless.
At 8:43 i cried when Latka hugged his Mama goodbye !!! 😢

Robin was initially cast as Bobby on Taxi. His appearance as Mork on an episode of "Happy Days" changed that and set him on a course of superstardom.
@@PhilMoskowitz Whoa, they coulda worked together...
Latka and Jim make one heck of a pair in this episode . . .
who is her?
Man, the wacky silly wordplay is pretty genius in this. Some great stuff. Loadoff, betta, etc...
Theme song takes me back to a house I lived in back in Georgia and my first wife.
I don't know what I love more...
Casting a women younger than Andy as his mom. The made up language that sounds like something right out of a European country. Or that snazzy suitcase
One of the best theme songs ever..
Barney Miller is better
Agreed
I never noticed how the video keeps re-setting and showing the same stretch of bridge many times over!
@XavierKatzone..I never noticed it either... But I have noticed the jerky editing..
cab fare by souls of mischief sampled the bob james intro it’s so dope haha
Loved it then and still love it now
4:11 The colored boldened text always gets me!
A lot of great shows in the late seventies and throughout the '80s. But Taxi's writing, acting, and direction were the trifecta of comedy.
I lost it at "Peh-oh-pleh"
Great quality thank you so much - a rare and valued clip.
[thought I posted this on the Orson Welles/Kaufman interview?]
How did Andy do this show and wrestle 400 women?
hell that O.J joke came out with a way different and prolonged punch line huh?
Rumor has it, Andy Kaufman always thought poorly of OJ. Going so far as to say he believed OJ would be a killer if not a baller. That was a joke he stuck in there, after they were disgusted by indoor toilets and dogs and eating chicken. Truly a genius
Lego Fascinating. Can you provide any links to sources? I would love to educate myself about Andy Kaufman’s ability to predict OJ’s future.
I love Simka & Latka 💞
It's a fake language, and yet you can still hear they're speaking it with thick American accents!
It's easier to learn a fake language than a real one. They had more time to focus on saying it good.
I love the painting in the back lmao
Christopher Lloyd my favorite 😅😂
Did he ever look young? 😂
summer 1977 lmao
4:01 I lose my sides with this lol
‘Loadoff’. ‘Sit’. Lmao
7:07 - I didn't get that joke the first time I watched this, but now I know what light my fire means.
2:00 Lmfaoooooo Latka got serious
Used to love this on the BBC but can't ever remember watching the last episodes. So not sure what the BBC did.
Borat before Borat
*the woman that plays his mom is a knock-out* ⭐️
Susan Kellerman

I got peace of mind... yeah a very small piece lol 😅

the juice lol
I tought that was a black comedy joke until i notice how old this show was.
@@user-xb4ig7un4e I know. It's worse than black comedy actually, it's horrific irony.
Who else is here because or Orson Welles?
If anybody wonders...

Me
Why his mother younger than him?
Andy Kaufman would have never had it any different
That's just how it works in Latka's homeland
Thank you.
GASP
OJ Simpson hahahaha
he looks older then the "mum"😃
Someone has filmed me leaving the house :)
6:35 Well...
Borat's character got his idea from Latka
Yes and Steve Coogan used Vic Ferrari character for Tony Ferrino.
@@antb774 Tony Ferrino , Steve Coogan ? No idea who these people are.
He says a man can become another O.J. Simpson in America... yikes?
Dakota Starchild Oh no! But we can't judge Latka retroactively. (Was Latka who said it?)
I was confused too, but at that time OJ simpson was just a good football player and not several decades of courtroom disasters.
This was almost 20 years before...you know
weel green poop and things you know
It's true, in America any man can go on to butcher his wife and her friend
Latka's mother actually acted better than Kauffman did
I like this show, but the opening tracks takes ages.
How could you do this to my family to me and everyone for a bunch of ******?
