Thanks for the review. Excellent information on those Boy toy trolls. We feature them on tours at the Troll Hole Museum and I will include this information
I've collected prototype Star Wars toys for almost 30 years. All of those unproduced Ewoks and Droids figures still exist and have been located by collectors, even a few carded samples. They're CRAZY expensive these days, but they are out there. The most common was historically Bondo (discounting a recent garage sale find of a number of unpainted Chief Chirpas which has flooded the market). People at Kenner kept Bondo more than the others because they thought the prototypes were cute and they kept them on their desks. :) But there are more than a few of those out there. A friend of mine literally went to a toy show awhile back and found Bondo's unproduced club accessory in a box of random 80s toys.
I've been buying Bravestarr animation cells from the show as well as watching the cartoon itself recently. Would be great if Super 7 picked up the Bravestarr license!
I still have one of those Troll guys. I think he's a Warriors Troll. To this day I don't understand the attraction, but it's a cool part of Toy History. As for Brave Star, I wasn't into it then but I think it's awesome now. Nobody did cartoons like Filmation... ahhh I miss those days. Thanks for the excellent video and the walk down memory lane. Cheers!
In regards to those last waves of Battle Trolls, that giant monster troll was probably just a mock up and not a production toy. Back then toy companies would typically work on products a year or two in advance in case the line was a hit. That way they could just roll out the next wave quickly as they had already been working on it. That beast and the last waves probably never made it past painted mock-ups they showed in that catalog.
I still have my three battle trolls from when I was a kid. I don't remember their names but I thought they were too cool back in the day. I have 🥊 boxer one, police officer, and the army one in tan colors. Great episode.
I remember YEARS AGO there was an ebay auction for an entire line of unreleased Bravestarr Prototype figures. They were designed for the second wave that never happened. There were more than the figures featured on the ad you showed for sure. Price was really high on the set so I regrettably passed on it.
Great content Ed!,I would have loved to have gotten that un produced line of battle trolls to add to my collection.there must be someone out there that has those painted prototypes hidden away in there basement.
One of my favorite toys of the mid-‘80s was my Ewok play set. I believe it came out just after the Ewok tv special, which was also one of my favorite movies of the time.
Gobots had a Prototype "Gobo-tron" Headquarters that was never released, however there are rumors that some were sold as prizes at some fair or state fair out in the midwest when they never were released in the toy market. Like I said that is just a rumor though. Also Remco Warlord toys advertised a "Journey through time playset", but it has never been seen other than mentioned on packages or was it on ads? Who knows (lol).
You can actually get the Driods cartoon on DVD. I bought a copy off of Amazon a few months ago. The only part still not a available is the movie length "The Great Heap". That one is just available to view on RUclips.
@@christopherwieber783 Thanks. You're right, I'm not sure how I missed it in the past, though it's a higher price now. Ewoks too though neither as a complete series. Still, that's good to see they exist on DVD. Thanks.
I'm the Artist-in-Residence at the Troll Hole Museum in Alliance, Ohio. We have the Guinness World Record for the world's largest troll doll collection. I love battle trolls. We even have a Street Fighter troll doll! You cannot begin to imagine the extreme variety of trolls that have been made since the mid 1950's. I love learning about unknown or unproduced toys. Come visit man, and I'll give you a tour myself!
I had some Bravestarr toys back in the 1980s. If I knew how rare and valuable they would be now. I would have kept them in the boxes in mint condition.
Thanks for the video and thanks for the Varner Studios interview. I have a feeling we will see some new TMNT and Toxic Crusaders figures from Super7 that will fit in with the vintage stuff. I was never a big fan of Alien stuff, it just never had much of a personality as a monster. Aliens was a good movie. Predator was good also. Four Horsemen does all the Ultimates stuff so what else would Varner be working on and I hope that I am right :)
The toy I wish would have been made was the playset/base from Barnyard Commandos in 89. It was going to be called Port of War, but in the very short lived cartoon it was called The USS PORKTOWN. I've seen production pictures of it, but that's it
Thanks for the nice video! I really enjoyed watching it. One action figure that you definitely missed was the unproduced Unicron Transformer figure for the Transformers Movie. It looked terrible and originally was green and yellow.
@@EdsRetroGeekOut I know, right?! I remember when I first saw Unicron transform in the movie, I immediately wanted to have an awesome Unicron action figure. Little did I know that it would take years if not decades until one was released D:
Arcee is now a days produced bij 3rd party makers like Fanstoys, but Takara also had finally released Masterpiece Arcee (I believe it's MP 42). Great video like always!!
Unproduced prototypes for Panosh Place Voltron were seen in the 1986? Panosh Place catalog. LOT of new characters there including some of vehicle Voltron members. Don't know if you covered that or not.
I never had cable tv as a kid so i had no idea there was a girl transformer :o Thats so cool! Its a shame they never made her I would have loved to have her.
@@EdsRetroGeekOut Welcome!! Always look forward to toy history ep! :D I'll have to look up some of her figures. When i was little i would have definitely made my power ranger animal zords her pets hahaha
It's too bad that Hasbro never made Paploo for the classic lines. He was supposed to be the Ewok Leia met (until the producers fell in love with Warwick Davis) and was played by Kenny Baker! At least he still got to steal a speeder bike. Plus my brother and I had the stuffed animal of the guy for the longest time. That's true though about the lack of G1 repaints. Outside of the first few waves when they reworked the old Takara molds like crazy, the new molds were untouched until G2. As opposed to now where a Seeker mold will be used a good dozen times.
How did the space cowboy thing never explode? I think its time for a comeback. Cowboys vs aliens is a good start, but when I hear space cowboy. Im picturing like guardians of the galaxy in space, not on earth with back in the day cow Boys. But I love these horse like flying robots and cowboys with robot implants. This is a jackpot of an idea if done right. If any millionaires out there read this and want to make a movie and toys, im your graphic artist and 100% on board for a space cowboy universe build.
8:29 i thought you were going to hit on Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers..we never got toys of that amazing cartoon. They did in europe, but not in the USA.
The biggest shame about Bravestar, is that it wasn't part of MOTU like She-Ra was and Blackstarr and Thundercats felt like. The toys could all interact. (Lion-O being a bit tall notwithstanding...) But Bravestar and Captain Power, Mattel changed the scale. The Evil Horde was a great opportunity to unite these characters across space and time. Hell, Bravestar even had a snake woman on it! Forever Marshal Rio Blast, stands alone...
I wonder if there were any Power Ranger toy prototypes that never went into full production. Considering that Bandai seemed unprepared for the Hasbro buy-out, it wouldn't surprise me.
trolls give me nightmares. there was a movie in my childhood about a doll that came to life and tried to kill a woman...not chucky, this doll looked like a tiki-troll

Yes that’s what a proto is
that joker troll was and is a MUST NEED. Too bad was not :(
🤔 i wonder if an existing one could lend itself to be repainted and costumized to look like the joker proto
@@EdsRetroGeekOut pretty neat idea actually
