  • A New Yorker article argues that we are in "the gilded age of medicine." So what does that mean for U.S. health care? Dr. Dhruv Khullar, associate professor of health and economics at Weill Cornell Medical College and contributing writer at the New Yorker, joins "America Decides" to discuss his piece.

This is nonsense to blame Reagan for anything like this. This has been a problem since the beginning. An increasingly sickly population with more treatments available plus excessive government subsidization, it's no surprise the system is just asking to implode. Healthcare spending and Education have the same subsidization from the government and consequently have an identical inflation rate of around 7.5% annually.

We need Medicare-For-All/a universal healthcare system in The United States! What's more "pro-life" then ensuring everyone living here has guaranteed affordable healthcare regardless of their job? If we all have access to healthcare, we would have the "freedom" to live long lives without having to worry about medical bankruptcies. Taxes will go up, but overall medical bills will go down. If some of us need additional healthcare, then we have the "choice" to acquire private insurance. If every other developed country (Canada, Germany, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Switzerland, Israel, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, & New Zealand) can implement this system & save money, then why can't The United States do the same to help "Make America Great Again" for everyone when it comes to healthcare? Finally, if people in The United States die from a lack of access to affordable health insurance then we are failing our country's promise of defending "life, liberty, & the pursuit of happiness" for its citizens as well as "promoting the general welfare" of everyone living here.

it's a low competition market. and so, the essence of antitrust law the same elements harm that industry. ultimately it leads to abuse of power when the competition is low, and predatorial behavior. alot of price gouging combined with bad services. this happens in most markets with low competition but it's very bad in the health care sectors aswell as colleges across the usa are predatorial, and very high in the commerce sectors like ports rails ltl trucking and parcel trucking. block jobs, block competition, and price gouging that's generally the theme.
so i agree that healthcare system needs to be better, but it's very much linked to low competition and antitrust, and leads to environement where price gouging just becomes common practices.

In America, we live in an age of PROFIT over PEOPLE when it comes to medicine/healthcare. In many ways, you get the healthcare you can AFFORD. All health insurance is not created "equal." Many people become catestrophically ill or injured just to find out they're not COVERED when it comes to certain procedures, or owe a significant "copay" to access certain care. Or they must jump through hoops to be approved for certain procedures based on an "algorithm," which denies the patients care their doctor says they need more often than not. Delinquent medical bills are the main reason many over billed seniors file bankruptcy. And poor and indigent people get limited healthcare. Healthcare is a financial maze by DESIGN to squeeze money out of people while they are at their most vulnurable state. Bottom line; healthcare in America is a RACKET

We do not have health care in the United States, we have sick care and then only for those who can pay. Think about it, health care for profit. Healthcare for profit. What is wrong with that statement, damn.

Not if you have a serious illness like cancer. Everyone from anywhere in the world with financial means heads straight to the good old USA TO BE TREATED, TO RECOVER SO THEY CAN LIVE.
