    Thanks for this video. As a huge Dylan fan, I very much appreciate hearing others' comments on his music and releases. I have and love all of these releases, and am very thankful that they have been made available to fans. No one can say that we Dylan fans have not been extremely well served over the years!

      By the way, I'm one of those crazies who buys the "deluxe" sets with 15 takes of the same song, hahaha!

      @@CalicoSilver I know if it was The Beatles I am the same way. I'm somewhere between a casual and hardcore Dylan fan. There is some stuff I love a lot but other stuff I can take just the album versions. I'm glad you enjoyed checking out the video!

      Hi Mark P. Thanks so much for this video. I'm a casual Dylan fan that owns a few of his albums on CD, however I have also bought the Bootleg Series up to volume 12. In fact I have the long box version of the first set (Volumes 1-3). I kind of lost track of the next 3 volumes and just saw the latest volume (15) today. I want to get these 3 to stay up to date. Like you I haven't bought the big deluxe versions though it's a real shame that volume 14 is only an 11 track single disc. Surely that should have been 2 discs like all the others and It kind of ruins the aesthetic of the collection.
      I have the odd Dylan LP as well and I probably should spin them. Thanks again. Cheers from Sydney Australia.

      Indeed! I love Nashville Skyline also, Winston. Just a marvelously smile-inducing album (as the cover would suggest).

    • @MarkP
      @MarkP  5 лет назад +1

      I can't really explain why that is my favorite album but I just really love listening to it. Too bad it is such a short album. I think 27 minutes or something like that. He had a different voice during this time which makes it interesting on its own and the songs are really well done in my opinion.

      @@MarkP My review video of Nashville Skyline waxes very emotionally about my personal connection and love for this album. There are days when I would readily claim it to be my favorite Dylan album too, for personal and sentimental reasons, as well as for the reason that it is just THAT wonderful of an album. I am so glad to see more and more people willing to "come out of the closet" and admit openly what a beautiful album this is.

    Great video Mark! Nashville Skyline is my favorite as well. Rumor is the next bootleg series is the Nashville sessions John Wesley Harding through Nashville Skyline, Including the session he did with Johnny Cash. I really hope that is the case.

    Big Bob fan and own many of these; some on vinyl. No other artist or group releases this many rare tracks, demos, out takes, or live concert performances.

    • @MarkP

      Other artists should definitely take a cue from Bob and release the same type of sets. (I'm looking at you Beatles!) We've been getting some stuff from Beatles with the Anthology and some of the recent anniversary box sets but there is so much more that could be released I'm sure.

    The best part of this collection? Actual plastic jewel cases!

    • @MarkP
      @MarkP  5 лет назад +2

      I know right? Everything nowadays is "digipaks". I love the jewel cases. Even if they break it's no problem getting a replacement to make it look new again. This can't be done with the cardboard sleeves/jackets.

    • @CalicoSilver
      @CalicoSilver 5 лет назад +1

      @@MarkP So true. When the CD-holding "teeth" break from those digipack things, that's it. And it seems quite a few come with broken teeth. Whereas with plastic jewel cases, just pop out the tray with the "teeth" and all is new again.

    Wow! I didn't even know about this video til MeanMrMayo mentioned it today. Thanks a lot youtube. Anyways....I loved this video Mark. I'm a big Dylan fan and actually have most of these, even some of the six disc sets, but I still enjoyed hearing you talk about them and going through the booklets. And I'm also one of those fans that loves Dylan's Christian period and, heaven forbid, I also like Self Portrait. I always thought that if it had been edited down to one album it could have been as good as Nashville Skyline. I was also glad to hear that you liked Nashville Skyline because that album, and Blonde On Blonde, are the first albums that really got me into Dylan. Peace....Steve

    • @MarkP

      Glad you liked the video! I find it interesting how many "periods" Dylan's career has. There seems to be something for everyone to enjoy along the way. I like just about everything. But I haven't given much of a listen to his 80s and 90s stuff. From Time Out Of Mind on I enjoy everything too.

    Got many of these up to the more blood series..got a collection of every live 1965 recorded..I'm a early Dylan fan..last few albums voice just too rough for me..but still buy them

    • @CalicoSilver
      @CalicoSilver 5 лет назад

      I think his later albums are marvelous, really wonderful, but I can understand the aversion to his ravaged voice that some listeners would have. But I love those recordings anyway. Heck, I'd go see ol' Bob Dylan perform even if they rolled him out in a wheelchair and he just grunted his lyrics (with no music, even) for an hour. Haha!

    • @MarkP
      @MarkP  5 лет назад

      I find it interesting how many different voices Bob had over the years. Each period of his career seemed to have a different voice. His early stuff was one, around Nashville Skyline was another, and this later period is another. I can appreciate all of them. I know his voice now is really rough but somehow, for me, he makes it work really well with the music he's performing. I haven't listened to any of his recent "standards" albums but I've really enjoyed his other recent albums. I saw him live a few years back. I didn't really know what song he was trying to sing half the time but I do remember the band he had backing him was awesome and made it worth going just for that alone.

    • @CalicoSilver
      @CalicoSilver 5 лет назад

      @@MarkP The "standards" albums are the only Dylan albums I have yet to buy....well, except for the first one that came in the red box set (which I know you have, Mark, because of your video featuring it). I just can't yet approach those albums, because those songs belong to Sinatra, Bennett, et al.. I'm not sure I understand why artists such as Dylan feel the need to cover that stuff. But then again, I'm sure there were many who wondered why artists such as Dylan would bother to cover music by Woody Guthrie et al.. So.....never mind.....

  • @CalicoSilver

    That Scorsese film.....well, I wish they would have just stuck with the concert footage and genuine (not faked) backstage/behind-the-scenes stuff, and left off the rest of it. The hippy-dippy hangers-on, the actors pretending to be other people, the fake historical stories, etc., I could have done without. But the cleaned-up footage of the performances was stunning. We've seen some of these performances before but not this cleaned-up. If a DVD release contains the option of just watching the concert footage, I will buy it. Oh, and I was really annoyed when the film cut away from performances to go to stuff like Nixon's speech, street scenes, etc.. Grrrrr!!!!

    • @MarkP
      @MarkP  5 лет назад

      Going into watching the film on Netflix for the first time I was (hoping for and) expecting a really cool factual documentary of this tour. Not being the "hugest" Dylan fan I had only a little knowledge of this period. Some of the interviews in it didn't seem right to me. After watching it I realized a lot of it was made up which was a big disappointment. If I were someone who knew nothing of Dylan I would take everything here as fact, which isn't right. On the plus side, I really enjoyed the live footage that was presented and since watching it have really gotten into the Vol. 5 of the Bootleg Series. It is really a great listen and I've listened to it a lot since watching the film. I agree a DVD of the concerts would be awesome and I would also definitely get that!
