Great Vid. Glad to see the Soldano name, living on. I met Mike, when he was building his 1st prototypes. He's a cousin, to my late wife. We met at Family Reunion, in the early '80's. I was in College and he was not far out of High School. I was a Music & Audio Engineering student; rebuilding vintage tube Hi-Fi amps; as a hobby. We got on, straight away; geeking out about transformers and bias circuits & tone. He was also amazing, at guitar electronics. I went to his house (nxt door, to family reunion) and we talked guitars & amps; all evening. After that - I was excited, for him, each time a noted musician bought his gear. Once he got an amp to Mark Knopfler, and from there to Clapton, the rest is history. As a side note, I REALLY REALLY want a SLO30!
I love this. I’m GOING to get this amp at some point soon. From the heart, I’m so absolutely blown away by the beauty of the Soldano sound and the love that goes into it. Thank you for all of that effort and dedication. It does not go unnoticed! ❤️🎸🙂
I can totally hear Mike screaming inside "Nooooo! Your out of tune, funny german guy!!!" while nodding his head and smiling whereas you're torturing this amp and our ears :D I liked it! Good one, Henning!

I’ll be definitely treating myself to the 30 SLO, been using the Orange AD 30 HTC . very happy with that amp but I believe this thing would be the nuts!
Every time I see Mr. EytschPi in one of his wonderful videos, I cannot help but wonder how related we are genetically. My father is Irish (Irish who emigrated from Germany. My surname Hillard is the anglicized version of Hilliard which is again a Irish/English version of Hildegarde, which means in the Teutonic languages of old "Citadel" or "Guardian In War." My mother's bloodline is straight from the German/Polish/Ukrainian/Russian border. Yes, there is a place on the map where all of those wonderful nations converge (and every few years invade each other lolol). Mr. EytschPi looks almost EXACTLY like my German/Polish/Russian/Ukrainian (and a touch, like 1/4 Norwegian -- long story) grandfather. So every time that I see Mr. EytschPi I see and hear the grandfather that I lost to heart disease as a pre-teen boy. Like Mr. EytschPi I am a career metal musician and we share a face, body type and hairline (I am not happy about it either -- thanks grandpa lolol) and musical styles and influences that we play and listen to. Mr. EytschPi even sounds like my immigrant grandfather when speaking English with the same accent. So, I always wonder how much DNA we share! It really makes you wonder about nature versus nurture. If a song bird is hatched from an egg and never hears its song, it still knows how to sing that song. HOW? Makes on think... So, I cannot help but to take an irrational liking to an already likable fellow, who's shows I undoubtedly would have been watching regardless of sharing DNA or not. I, however, do NOT share Mr. EytschPi's love of novelty shirts! I DENOUCE the wearing of loud, novelty shirts! I am a lifetime wearer of loud novelty SOCKS and sometimes loud, novelty wigs!!! I also rescue animals cousin. My friends think that I am mentally ill as I often cannot find new homes for the animals that I also shelter! I once had ten cats! I have had 15 ferrets. I cannot keep all of the dogs that I sheltered too big so I have to find homes for them. I had so many ferret cages and you have to let them out the vast majority of the day so I would practice as they all would play and climb over me, like the pied piper of troubled weasels. Thank you, cousin. Do not worry I am not a crazy person. Just a similar soul like you who shares distant DNA and is surprised by how you look like my grandfather and how similar someone who looks like one of my relatives has similar interests and passions, like the rescue of animals. Thank you, please have a pleasant day! And bless you for you work with rescuing animals! As I write this one of my rescue cats comes into my arms. They are all so gentle now. Anyway. Thanks and have a pleasant day!
Why do people always complain about the price of Mike's amps? These are Ferraris, not Kias. Sure, your Kia has 4 wheels and takes you from here to there, but it is NOT a Ferrari. That's why it costs so much less. Mike made " Jet City Amps" just for you pinches pobres (GREAT amps too, btw). You could even get them customized/ modified by MIKE HIMSELF in Seattle, and you guys still weren`t happy. Rationalize how your lower tiered amp is "just as good" or "even better" than the real thing all you like . Just have the decency to do it somewhere else.
Obviously it is either people who have never plugged into one (which really does have the effect on you that Henning experienced, they are THAT good), or the tone is simply not exactly what they want, which is purely subjective. There is no amp that is objectively better than a Soldano, it just comes down to the subjective issue of personal preference. Well, some people mentioned features, midi, etc., but some of us don't give a flying f about such things, it's all about the tone, feel, response, etc. There are plenty of great amps out there, not all of them are for every player however, but most players should be able to find something to love about a few of them, for their own unique attributes, that you simply can't get out of any other amp. And you should own and love all of those if at all possible lol.
The SLO is one amp that somehow sounds good even when your guitar is way the hell out of tune. Also, Mike debates calling the Funny Farm at 24:13 to take Henning away...
Which one do you plan on getting, the SLO-100 or the SLO-30? I'm thinking on getting the SLO-100 but I'd like the SLO-30 just for it's size but I'm not sure that it, the SLO-30, has all the balls and everything else that the SLO-100 has.
I've wanted to use one of these ever since Gary Moore used them in the early 90's, but I am not sure if he ever recorded with a Soldano? He usually used Marshals. He'd use the clean channel on the Soldano and use a Marshal Guvnr' boost.
henning, i didn't particularly like your channel or reviews, but now that i know how much of a supporter you of animal rescues and shelters, i watch your videos.
To be honest, i build a SLO 5 Years ago with the features he explained. It is really cool for modern metal but you need an overdrive if you want the full package. 4k is really a lot of money tbh. But he is right the Dual rectifier is the same schematic only a few components are different but the rest is the same. But you get more options with the tube rectifier and the diode rectifier. Also if you look at the switching matrix of a Dual rectifier it is really expensive withe all the components. So yes the schematic is almost a rip off but at least it got some features and costs less.
Actually rectifier rev B and C where indeed similar to SLO but those have very distinct sound than the rev F and G dual rectifier that are the one becoming heavy rythme reference. So saying that slo is similar to the heavy rythme reference is not really true.
I think Mesa and Soldano are similar but doesn't Mesa have a fender Tonestack and this have a Marshall tonestack? Also the Rectifiers are buzzy and doesn't clean up well. The Soldano cleans up better.
Mesa rob the slo circuit... In the slo (and rectifier) the tone stack is after the distortion, like Marshall. Mesa mark 1,2,3... Have the tone stack before the distortion like fender.
Bogner Uberschall costs less and sounds way better. Plus 100 watt amp vs 30 watt for less money. Soldano is using the Wizard and Diezel pricing model which is not good for consumers who are not the 1% with unlimited budget.
The new panel designs are awesome! The amp sounds fantastic as all SLO's do. However, sorry that isn't "bang for the buck". The 30W is literally twice the cost of current 50W tube heads from major brands. Just use "boutique" as that is what these are. The 30W might be out of price in the market for those looking for smaller, lower power amps. Nevertheless, kudos on these amazing amps! They look and sound absolutely fantastic. Wish the 30W was sub $1.5k. 👍

I will take a Soldano circuit over any other for metal, 5150 is based on it so is the Dual Rec , the 5150 was based on the sound at least, and the Dual Rec literally is the same circuit, of the same topology (the 5150 is also not that far off, bit further than the dual rec but still circuit wise a similar thing). Anyone who does not think Soldano circuits do heavy well, is an idiot or just ignorant or both. I have a 5150 block, and a Jet City JCA50, and a JCM800, The 5150 is an immense amp so brutal, but the Jet City is better. Does better clean , takes pedals better in the front and the Hi gain is on par with the 5150, a little less brutal, but tighter and smoother. Unless you are doing full on Death tech shit where is always uber brutal...the Jet is the better amp, it does everything else better , and can still do uber brutal (think a 5150 on 98% brutality). That amp cost me £250, its a chinese pcb, but because its based on a Soldano (Hot Rod 50 I think?) its fucking amazing, the JCM 800 i have dont even get a look in, the 5150 is a 1 trick pony, the Jet has all bases covered. If you are younger maybe and dont know what a Soldano circuit is like, its like an Fender on the clean and a 5150/dual rec on the drive

Amp sounds great, but the "that's good enough" remark when tuning haha, it ruined so much for me! It was really really hard to listen to 😂 But man, I love your channel!
@@EytschPi42 Hey! all your interviews are AWESOME man! I guess those things are relative but a lot of people (not me of course, being so open minded) consider Creed and Nickleback the unwanted step-children of heavy music, anyways keep it up, you rule!
Awesome Amp, but $2500 for a 30w amp is a bit much. Though, I spent that on my Friedman Dirty Shirley so, maybe not? Just seems pricey for a lunch box amp.
Listen to things like "This Means War" or "Side Of A Bullet". Those songs are heavy and carry the Mesa Boogie Recitifer signature sound in them, so it was a valid point made.
Great video as always. Very informative. With all due respect to Mike and boutique amps, there is absolutely no way these amps are worth the price. $4,000.00 for the 100 watt?!?!?? And $2500.00 for a 30 watt? I'm sure they sound great and will operate very well but the price is ridiculous. New logo....$LO
Quality amps not made in China cost money. If they are worth it - it only depends on if you want them to last for years and years. Lets see how many of the cheap chinese amps last 30-40 years like some of the classic Soladano's or MESA BOOGIEs for example.
@@PoltergeistWorks thanks for responding. I agree that American handmade amps are definitely better. That said, these amps are vastly overpriced. They're not even offering any other features. Just channel 1 and channel 2. I mean for that price, they can add midi, resonance, a couple of voicing switches, all kinds of things. I have a Victory Super Kraken that's priced way lower and it's a hundred watts and has tons of great features on it. When I get a chance, I will put them up against each other and we will see what's what
@@TONEWARSgearshow this is a Soldano still, and you get quality for the price. If you would find the same quality with even more features, it would be above the 2500 mark. Wizard offers a 25watts version of the famous MCII, 3500USD. Suhr has the new Pete Thorn model, 15watts with a lot of options, 3000USD. Soldano is not overpriced, it's just that these amps have these prices. Friedman had an other approach and made 20-40watts amps that were a tad cheaper, but they don't have as many features, are not all handbuilt. Their new double channel Dirty Shirley ( Twin Sisters ) is also at 2800USD with less features than the SLO30, but 10watts more.
It would be great if you exported your videos at 24fps or 25fps... 50fps just looks cheap, and considering that you have a lovely camera it's a shame to waste it. This is posted with a friendly voice, not an angry demanding one :)

SLO30=Peavey Bravo reinvented after 30 years.
Soldano is awesome
The new Soldano customer service is so bad now... Just a shame this great brand had to go out like this
Warren Haynes
I see this guy has a sly sense of humor so "Heavy like Nickleback" I'm guessing is a bit of trolling, LOL!
it really wasn’t trolling
@@EytschPi42 Hey! all your interviews are AWESOME man! I guess those things are relative but a lot of people (not me of course, being so open minded) consider Creed and Nickleback the unwanted step-children of heavy music, anyways keep it up, you rule!
24:07 gave me anxiety
26:30 What people buy a soldano for
Way overpriced for a small amp. Would love one but come on almost 3k for a 30 watt tube amp head, seriously? Even Bogner and Friedman are less money.
Awesome Amp, but $2500 for a 30w amp is a bit much. Though, I spent that on my Friedman Dirty Shirley so, maybe not? Just seems pricey for a lunch box amp.
10:59 Nickelbacky really heavy stuff? Hmm
right? lol
Buttrock
Pretty sure it was intended as a joke, but Mike is too nice of a person to get the joke. lol
I know it was a Joke. I would have picked Jonas Brothers heavy stuff though
Listen to things like "This Means War" or "Side Of A Bullet". Those songs are heavy and carry the Mesa Boogie Recitifer signature sound in them, so it was a valid point made.
Affordable ok? but price please !!!! 500-700 dollars it s affordable for me , more ... no
He said 2400 dollars i think... For a 30W head Holly cow
Guitar gear nerds are so weird about change... Some products are just not allowed to evolve.
God, that guitar just can't be in tune.. BUT the amp DOES sound quite brutal.
When I get a chance, I will put them up against each other and we will see what's what
Not worth it .. TO YOU.
Quality amps for discerning players. The new SLO 100 is improved and cheaper. Don't know what you been smoking ....
When you're bald tuning becomes optional.
King of amps ? You mean Randal Smith ?
hell no
Soldano Decatone!
I NEEEEEEEEED ONE or DIE
NyAMM Cat theme.
"..very similar.." 😏
Mike soldano doesn’t look like a soldano!
Killer
I suppose German lunchboxes are as big as toolboxes. This is not lunchbox sized.
🙏🤗😊🎸
It would be great if you exported your videos at 24fps or 25fps... 50fps just looks cheap, and considering that you have a lovely camera it's a shame to waste it. This is posted with a friendly voice, not an angry demanding one :)
The knobs on the amp look like corona viruses. Weird. 🤔
