In my head I thought my word choices were, Ya, Ok, Right, uh-huh, or your a god among men. So guess what I went with. lol
Plus I wanted to tell him why he is one of my Idols, and then he caught me off guard with the "I know You" comment. The shock ended two weeks later.
Thats cool . We love you and Steve too ! Is there more of the interveiw ?
Didn't you get your JEM autographed?
You looked starstruck at the start, but you relaxed into it after that, great interview.
this is a Jem of a intervuw
For those who drink, this is gonna be one hell of a drinking game lmao "drink every time Phil says Right" xd
Phillip looked kind of scared at first was he thinking S*it this is Steve Vai i better not screw this up lol, nice one Phillip you did good got to Love Steve Vai one of my all time faves
right
I love how Steve Vai has stuck with his Sponsors throughout the years 🙂
He's a loyal guy!
He chooses them for a reason. Not just because they throw money at him. He sticks with what he likes.
Comment Highlighted if I could get sponsored by any company I’d hope it would be Ibanez.
@Daniel Rodriguez Great choice. I have always been into Ibanez guitars ever since the original RG-550, RG-570 & RG-770. Throughout the years I have been blessed to own a couple JEMs, PRS Custom 24s, several Gibson Standards and Customs, Fender Deluxe & Elite, Charvel San Dimas Custom Shop, Jackson SL-1 & SL-2, Washburn N4, (all great American made guitars) because I had a small recording studio. If I had a choice to have only 1 guitar... it would be my Ibanez RG-4570Z HBK. It’s a Super Strat for a reason. I can play everything from Blues to Metal and not have to compromise on anything. That Edge Zero Tremolo with the Stabilizer is fantastic for stabilizing string bends. I know people complain about Ibanez having thin necks, but to me it just feels more efficient. That’s just my personal opinion 🙂
Comment Highlighted nice guitars. I’ve had a RG570 since 1998. Those original wizard necks are my favorite. This was my second guitar but my first good one, $609 with a case. I went into the shop with my mom to buy a Jackson Dinky but turns out they would have to order it so while they’re doing that I browse around the shop and immediately all in love with the RG570. I canceled my order and got the Ibanez instead and man am I glad I did. 22 years later and it’s still my my favorite. If I could get my own custom model:
RG neck thru with original wizard neck, ebony fretboard, stainless steel frets with the prestige fret end treatment, offset blue glow in the dark dot inlays, original edge trem, H-H pickup configuration, three way blade switch, two volume, no tone controls and a nebula style color shift finish.
I love it. Two humble human beings talking about gear !!!! No arguments...just love for music.
If I could describe Steve Vai in one word it would be Pragmatic. He is so sensible and modest. Yeah I'm sure he had his moments of ego back in the 80's but you live and you learn and it shows in this interview.
Great interview Phillip. Interviewing Steve Vai places you up there with interviewers and you did a great job of asking pertinent and reasonable questions. Proud of you Phillip and thanks.
Finally ! Jeeze Phil ! Interview with Steve ...this is a great moment in the channels history ! Thanks for sharing !
What an awesome laid back interview.
THANK YOU MR STEVE VAI FOR ALL THE INSPIRATION ALL THESE YEARS!
Awesome interview. Congrats on meeting your idol (& mine as well). So cool that he recognized you!!🤘
Your hard work is paying off Phil. So happy to see you with the big timers now, right where you belong. When it comes to gear, you're a legend. Such a great channel and you seem like a phenomenal dude. Cheers
Phil this was a great interview!! Loved it.
Great interview with Steve Vai. Thank you Phil.
Great interview,I’m sure could’ve gone on for days, hope you get another interview and more time soon
That’s awesome!!! So happy for you Phil!!!!
Met Steve at a meet and greet years back in Phoenix. There were maybe a dozen fans in this big room. He was so welcoming. Listened to everyone's comments and questions with sincere attention as if absorbing us visually and verbally. Wonderful spirit/soul and hell of a musician. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah modeling is really awesome. Love the interview and the World with KYG logo at the end was pretty cool!
Great interview Phil! Thank you!
That would be really cool to sit with Steve Vai and talk gear! That is awesome Phillip McKnight!
man Phillip is literally just focused in on every word, nicely done phil.
Right... Right...... Right..
-Phil 2020
New drinking game. Right....drink
Great segment Phil! Steve VAI, always the Gentleman 🎸🙏🎸
"hey I recognize you." Phil's famous y'all. Great interview with a legend.
Great intro and outro, still a humble, loyal guy and plays with heart, soul and feel.
I'm really happy you got to have that "I know you" moment. Must have been really gratifying.
Great interview!
Really nice interview
Nice interview Phil-- Congratulations.
I really wished for this meeting between these two experts. Great vid
Grear interview Phil! Mr. Vai is such a stand up guy. Thank you both!
Great to see Vai on this channel. Congrats Phil!
Great interview Phillip!
Phillip's in with the big boys now! Fair play!!!
Wow interviewing Steve Vai, plus him recognizing you, that got to be on the top of your RUclips achievements list!
Good interview!👍👍😎
Great job, Phil!
You know you're doing the right thing in your life when Steve Vai recognized you. Keep doing what you doing Brother,,,cheers
Great interview.
Looking into the eyes of Jack Butler, after watching him and listening to him from afar over 30 + years, must have been surreal and intimidating. Well played @Phillip McKnight
Super awesome interview
"Hey I know you" is an awesome way to be greeted by Steve Vai. Well done Phil!
This is so awesome Phil
Steve Vai is the epitome of cool.
You’re pretty cool also Phil. Thanks for the video. Love your stuff.
That was the first one of these interviews that wasn’t uncomfortable. Good job!
Great interview, Phillip. Lots of good info. Steve is awsome, seen his shows several times. Sure glad what he said was right.
Listen man, I love Phil and of course Steve. Been following since Zappa. So I get it Phil. The shock of coming down off Steve Vai interview high and the freeze of being in it "realtime" is hard lol!
Right? Right! Write? Right?
Rite! Just kidding though I prob could not even get the rights out brother! Great job!
I'm meeting Steve Vai in march I can't wait your a lucky guy 🤘
Great video Phil! Steve V. is such a NICE, intelligent guy!
Vai is always so amazing. Thanks Phil.
Have been here from the start, and known you would be here!
Wow how awesome is it to get to meet and talk with Steve Vai. I'd love to meet him.
That was unexpected. Thanks guys!
Love the new Pia. I think the magnetic backplate is something a lot of guitars are going to have in the future.
Yeah Vai is an innovative dude!
@Angry Deli no kidding, hey? Although the Velcro works pretty damn good. Sometimes I have to really pull to get a pedal off the board.
Wait, what does the magnetic backplate do?
Shame it is so damn expensive
I definitely think modeling has it’s place. I love modeling software for recording, practicing at home etc. I still like my all valve Marshall head and cab for playing live. I also have solid state analog rig ( 80W Peavey Bandit 112) for easy transport to rehearsals and last minute gigs where I just don’t want to drag out the half- stack.
To sit with a legend must be overwhelming! You did good!
Wow great crossover here!
You're like... talking to one of the greatest guitar players of all times (at least IMHO). And this guy is so nice !!
He's even this nice at his meet and greets.
Awesome!! 🎸
Phil talking to THE MAN! Awesome!
The man who cant play Guitar .
right...lol . Props to you I doubt I would have been able to speak much myself. Great video
Thank You
I saw Steve play a little over a year ago with Zakk Wylde. I was awe struck by both of them.
Still pretty cool, "Hey i know you" awesome!
His favorite small practice amp sits in his studio on top of his giant rig. He's under contract so he could not give you an answer to that question. If you watch his videos from his studio it's there for the keen eye to see.
Saw him with David lee Roth. Killed it . Not sure the year , came to the venue I worked at.
Phil, we all would have crumbled in front of Vai like that. Awesome experience for you and well earned. In the meantime for him, this was interview 1,047 where he touts the Synergy system. He’s got his sales schtick down like a character from the Simpsons. But strangely I still enjoy listening to it.
What an awesome dude
I wonder if Mr. Vai ever gets "tired" of playing the guitar after all these years?
Sweet interview Mr. Phil! 🐰✌️
Steve Vai is such a good guitar player and such a good guy! Gotta love good ol' Vai!
Phil is awestruck
When Steve Vai says, "I know you." I would've dropped brownies. Good for you Phil! Love the channel. Please help me fix my horrible Jackson Kelly. Thanks, I'll send it right away. Smooches.
Good video
You did very well! Nothing like talking to one of the greatest guitar players ever, right? Seems like a cool guy too!
Great job. Steve Vai is still the best post Hendrix guitarist, in my opinion. Congrats on getting his to appear on your channel. You totally deserve every success.
The mighty and WISE Steve Vai. I would give a leg to become his student. He must know so much about the instrument from playing for so long, not just studying the theory.
Steve’s the man
sick
Vai has switched to an amp less “axe fx” style all in one setup.
Damn, time to think about this method of amplification seriously now. Damn it Steve.
Steve Vai is such cool guy
Steve did this ad for synergy on another popular guitar channel. at least this channel listed this as a synergy add not as an interview with Steve.
WOW PHILIP . . . . were u able to sleep the night before you interviewed MR. VAI ?
what a Jem , thank you for sharing
I see what you did there.
Cool I was wondering what exactly was happening with him and Carvin. I still have my legacy 1 as I sure he does
The Legacy 1 and 3 are his favourites. He didn't like the Legacy 2, reportedly. IIRC that was a Ben Fargen design, and for whatever reason he didn't get along with it and went to the 3, but still used the original Legacy I live and in the studio along with it.
This interview is awesome!!! And now I understand the joke about the “bald, white man in a very luminous room”, Phil...!
What road cases was he using?
Hey Phil! Did you ask Steve to try his green guitar?
it'd be interesting to try this thing, but you have to kinda go all in so I'm not quite there yet.
How fucking cool did it feel to have Steve Vai say "I know you!"?!
2 good guys.
Why is the audio so compressed & lo-fi?
Right
Unless Phillip has Eddie Van Halen on, this is going to be unbeatable. Unless Jimi Hendrix is still alive. Thanks Phil and Steve
It's always a little funny (ironic I suppose?) when you watch somebody you admire get star-stuck when they meet one of their own idols.
ErebosGR Right -- but my question still remains...
I have been a Guitar player for 35 yrs. spent many yrs to become the Guitarist I wanted to be . I have owned lots of Amps & Guitars over the yrs . But I have never played through a Pro Rack system like whats behind them .With my experience I wonder how my style would sound like through a real Pro system ?? My practice amp is a Blackstar 10 watt V2 and I have a patch that I use to play the Crossroads Vai parts and to my ear it sound damn close or as close as Im gonna get with that Amp & my Guitar lol . Oh well maybe one day but then again I gig maybe twice a month and sometimes do studio stuff for a friend but not sure I would use that setup to its potential ever ...
Itervuw with the man Steve Vai
Beldar meets another alien
Hey, who’s that guy with Phil ? 🙂
Steve's the man! Right?
So awesome you got an interview with god...
Will you review new Harley Benton Dullahan?
right
