The steam locomotives at Dresden Hbf were also there due to the bomb evacuation. On the weekend you rode the train there was also the "Dresdner Dampfloktreffen" where special steam services are operating around the city. But the bomb was found directly besides the Altstadt station where the Dampfloktreffen takes place. So all steam locomotives were driven to the Hauptbahnhof during the evacuation as well since the locos had to be accompanied all the time.
Ah cool and makes total sense then! Fun thing to see :D
That's why I don't live in Germany
@@kapitan_madawhy, because ww2 bombs exist?
because it is no longer a safe country
@@kapitan_mada Well its not aurprising you thought it was a bomb threat or something, you dont seem very sharp
Fantastic report, very informative. I plan on visiting Prague from Australia in Jan 2025 for a business trip and want to take a train to Berlin for a Bundesliga 1/2 game on the weekend. It looks like it will be quite a comfortable and relaxing trip. Thanks for this video!
What an incredible video, my God!!! I've just bought an EC178 ticket and I'm so excited to get on this amazing train!!
Have fun!
Very nice part of the trip is between Děčín and Bad Schandau. Very deep unique valley with sandstone rocks, lookouts etc. Couple of centuries ago ships transported the sandstone from here to Dresden Altstadt to be used for building of Hofkirche, Semperoper, Frauenkirche etc.
Thank you for this great video 😁 The steam locomotives belonged to a steam locomotive festival („Dresdner Dampfloktreffen“) which took place that weekend and had to be evacuated on Saturday to Dresden Hbf due to the bomb disposal
Ah that makes sense! Cool sight
I did the reverse of this trip in July (Prague to Berlin) and it was like no train I've ever been on. Of course I've only ever been on my home state's commuter rail and one Amtrak Lake Shore Limited, but still it was amazing. The scenery was beautiful, and the ride went smoothly... up until we crossed into Germany. The first problem arose when we were near Dresden, and we were stopped at a station for 30-45 minutes because of some drunks on the tracks ahead of us. After that, we kept moving. Then, around 45 or so minutes away from our destination, our train broke down, so we had to wait for a new train to pick us up. An already full ICE train heading to Berlin came and picked us up and we made the rest of the way there in a crowded train. Definitely one of the more memorable trips I've been on.
Sounds like an intresting expirence, but yes rail travel here in Europe in general is very different to America, even when we have problems :D
@@Simon-AndersenIt definitely is. I would 100% do it again.
Travelling with this route in about three weeks! Looking forward to it.
Have fun! Its a great trip, make sure to get something from the dining car
THANK YOU so much for making this video. I need to go Berlin to Prague on train and this is so helpful to understand.
I’ve done the reverse of this journey. I highly recommend.
Thanks for all those videos. I'm really enjoying them.
Thanks for this, Simon, always a good watch on this channel!
Great report as usual! I wish my trip had been as pleasant in Sept 2019 for Berlin-Prague, no dining car and the train was overflowing! So yes, get those seat reservations if available! The rolling stock was not quite this nice, but still very solid. 😊
Excellent commentary. I can't believe the cheap fare between Berlin and Praha.😃✌
Very good deals on the route!
Strange. Thought this was due to VAT difference. However, in Germany it's 7% and Czech Republic its 15% for food items. 🙂
Always refreshing and felt like I'm actually traveling with you while watching your channel ❤❤❤
Thanks mark ❤
Really enjoyed the video😊
Thank you 😀
I follow quite a few other railway channels here on this platform.
Really like the cut of your videos!
I never rode with an Eurocity, but i defintly need to.
Its a great trip and very cheap if booked in advance :D
Great video! To be honest I had no idea they even had a dining car. I’ve only taken this train in the summer when it’s so crowded that even the aisles are completely full of people and you can barely get to a seat even if you reserved it. I obviously haven’t had as nice of an experience with it being that crowded.
Yes these trains are insanely popular in summer. It's gonna be a lot nicer off peak
I was on the EuroCity before from Berlin to Hamburg! The Cars from the EuroCity are not new to me cause there used on the RegionalExpress / EuroCity Line from Munich to Prauge!
I always enjoy watching your videos, Mr Simon.
Maybe you can try to ride those heritage steam locomotives in Dresden.
Also, maybe you are also interested in reviewing the rail service between Budapest, Hungary to Split, Croatia
Split is very near to Dubrovnic-the place where Kings Landing was set in the Game of Thrones.
Thank you so much for the kind words! I have actually taken the Budapest - Split night train before and id love to do it again on video. The banner picture on my RUclips channel page is actually from that train :D
It must be very nice and unforgettable. I can't wait to see you take the Budapest-Split rail travel again soon, Mr.@@Simon-Andersen!!
If possible, you might also want to try the Budapest - Pécs Hungary.
In addition, I am curious what camera/phone do you use in making your vlogs?
Great video!
Very nice video
You should check out European sleeper train from Berlin to Brussels or PKP Eurocity from Berlin to Warsaw
I can't wait to travel on the Berlin-Warszawa Express in September 2024
Not sure if the Berliner line (the Prague - Berlin - Hamburg line) does provide food to your 1st class seat, but I remember that the Metropolitan line (Prague - Bratislava - Budapest) usually does.
It does!
Best restaurant car in Europe, in my experience.
It's definitely a top contender
Hi. How safe is it to leave your luggage in the luggage rack and walk towards the food car?
I've never had mine stolen while I went to dine. But it does happen. I always bring my valuables with me to the dining car, but I don't have a problem leaving a bag mostly full of clothes in the rack while I eat.
Is this the new RUclips way of you, superalbs, simply railway and co. to always add these red rounded pointers into the preview thumbnails?
i have taken the exact same route and the scenes were beautiful on the train journey :) me bad at english...
Nice video! I will be on this exact train in April. I paid for seat reservation but DB site did not allow me to choose a seat. I was automatically assigned a seat. Although it says "window" but I can't tell which side of the train. Wagon 262, seat 81. Can you tell which side I am on? I guess I can find an empty seat on the left side if I'm on the right.....
You can’t really know in advance, as the carriage could be turned either way. In April, the train hopefully shouldn’t be too busy, so you’ll probably be able to find another seat. :)
Kotanya sangat bersih. Salam kenal dr indonesia
Very nice video! Btw how did you like Prague and Czechia? Have the Czechs caught up to their German neighbours in terms of the level of development of the country?
Probably not, but I do like traveling in the Czech Republic and their trains are very interesting
Czechia has done a lot better than almost any other post soviet state
Hi is it possible to book the ticket in advance from the website if i live outside of Czech Republic?
Yes! I booked mine with no problem from Denmark :-)
You can book all European train tickets anywhere you are able to connect to internet.
Hi! Could you share the website you used to book this train?
CD.cz
Hi is there any place to put luggage on board?
There are a few racks by the vestibule doors like at 8:19 otherwise racks above the seat
Where do you put your luggage if traveling?
Above on the rack, or by the door there are also some racks like the one at 8:18
AHOJ!
Since 2024 brand new COMFORT JETS wagons will be launched to this line Praha - Dresden - Berlin - Hamburg - Kiel !!!
With plands to extend one train from Hamburg to Copenhagen (my hometown) in 2025!
@@Simon-Andersen I used to live in North Germany but now I'm back in Berlin
Has the tunnel around Fehmarn ever been finished I can't seem to find any updates
@@Simon-Andersen If it succeeds, I hope it will finally make me visit Denmark. 🤪
second class looks better than first class
Thats Ceske Drahy EuroCity cars from ex ÖBB
89kmh average speed is dissapointing for a long distance train like that. The regional trains in my region run faster than that.
Apart from that it seems like a great product. Especially the dining car, a good warm meal for under 10€? That's shockingly cheap compared to the DB Bordbistro on ICE trains.
I wished you'd review the seat comfort a little more, since that's one of the main factors for me when rating trains.
The Czech dining cars are excellent value for money! I will try to keep in mind to show a bit more of the seat in the future !
the route is scheduled to receive a massive costly upgrade mostly focusing on the windy parts on both sides of the border. It will unfortunately remove a lot of the beautiful scenery from the route in favor of a more direct alignment but its def needed
Nice video, subscribe 👍
