I'm a guy and this gave me inspiration and desire for being more intentional about my future clothing purchases and styling. Definitely going to take your fashion advice to heart!
I’ve always had random thoughts about preserving the longevity of basics despite changes in one’s physique overtime. So let’s say I invest in a $389 pair of jeans that fit my current size of a US 8, but then life happens and I gradually become a US 10, but because I’m happy with that weight, I have no desire to go back to my smaller size. So I suppose my curiosity is how to be intentional with investment purchases for the sake of leaving some “wiggle” room for body changes.
I felt compelled to comment because i couldn’t define my style before and this video helped me understand my own personal style and how to explain it so thank you!!
okay ms.graphic design w the new thumbnail style! my top 3 essentials are silver jewellery, brightly coloured tops, and probably a good shoe sneaker or boot
This was incredibly helpful. I’m starting over on my wardrobe and have been collecting basics but knowing about the essentials is a game changer. Thank you!
My essentials: leather sweats/joggers (truly wonderful for the night chill), bright red merino wool sweater, cream high-waisted wide-leg jeans, olive high-waisted wide-leg wool pants, fox-print T-shirt This video just makes it more clear that I don't have enough essentials in my wardrobe for my tastes, haha. Especially ones that are compatible with my job. I'm in the process of fixing this, but it can be so hard to make sure that your wardrobe suits both your life and your taste.
Not me seeing this a year later... ☠️ The joggers I have I picked up a while ago (pretty sure I was in high school or recently graduated) on the clearance rack at some department store. The brand was Viktoria + Woods, which I'm not sure exists anymore. But they are by far superior to any similar styles I've seen since. They were a lifesaver when I lived in places with awful wind-chill.
love this video so much! i used to only have essentials in my wardrobe but no basics whatsoever so i always struggled with putting together cohesive outfits. however, you taught me otherwise in your previous basics/essentials video; i‘ve accumulated a lot more basics for past 6 months or so!
so excited for this video but i already got you when mentioned it in one of your vlogs!! almost all my outfits have my basics like black denim, blue denim, black blazer(which is part of my black suit), black tees and white tees. My favorite essentials are my coloured halter tops, floral rompers/dresses, plaid skirt and blazer, band tees and i love me my silver accessories just like how you love your gold ones! Looking into getting a neutral toned beige pant to add to my basics because i recently realized they can go with everythinggg.
This was super, super helpful. Thank you! I get so lost putting outfits together and this helps tremendously. I also love how you acknowledge that not everyone fits into a box and you speak on that. I am for sure subscribing and sharing!
I know this video is old, but still so relevant. I’ve been really enjoying watching your videos, small things like seeing everybody express themselves differently, not judging, just being genuinely helpful for everyone interested in the topic is what makes you stand out to me! I watched a lot of RUclips when I was younger, but with maturing lost my interest in the content created. it just didn’t align with my view on the world as dramatic as it sounds haha. It’s so fun to have someone to watch excitedly again!! Go Asia!!
Great video! Clarification of this really helps to build a more cohesive wardrobe. I also find it helpful, if I want to style a piece I havent worn in a while or I'm not getting enough wear out of dressier pieces ---> add some basic items to make it more wearable 👍😃
Never rlly thought I was a sneakers gal but I think my most essential items are my white adidas bc they a very unique print on the stripes and these royal blue high top/platform converse that have flower embroidery on them
I liteeallt have around 100 plus peices of clothing 🤣😂 I have a huge closet. I kinda have a vibe to what I like, streetwear, preppy, business, asthetic girly, feminie, bright bold colors, casual, etc. 😅 basically all sorts of stuff
My essential items are usually shoes or accessories, I like to keep my day-to-day clothing pretty basic (chic business casual) and then I have essential clothing items for special occasions.
Loved this! I express myself through music but would love to learn to do it also through fashion, videos like this one are so helpful for that! Thank you ✨
I love this video! I totally felt when you said " you're going to run into a lot of problems with a closet full of only essentials " because thats literally my closet right now LOL. I have like 3 basic tops and a lot of really cute outerwear ( i live in chicago so understandable ) but even all of my jeans are crazy essentials. I started selling a bunch of clothes on poshmark during this pandemic so that coming out of this, I have a clearer mindset AND i can go shopping hehehe 😂
Good info. ❤️ you radiant personality. I was determined in 2020 to make my closet work for me and what I discovered was that I had too many ESSENTIALS🙂 and few basis. So now I know if you have a lot of clothes and nothing to wear you probably have to many ESSENTIALS.
This posted on my birthday! Anyway! I think my essentials are: My jacket collection, my knee high leather boots, my sweater that reminds me of the Knives Out one, colorblocked pants, and a few too many sweaters. Honestly way too many sweaters. Typing this, I'm reminded how many of my wardrobe is from my mom's closet, we switch essentials a lot. So, happy mother day mom!!
I definitely have more essentials than basics 😅but am investing in some more… my essentials are shirts from the 90s/2000s that I wear ironically and special editions from adidas/Levi’s that I loved the cuts of
At what age/time did you feel like you solidified your style? This video was really helpful for me and I've never really had a style but it's something that I've been trying to work on this year
Basics:white t shirt and blue jeans Essential: Flannel over shirt OR turtleneck under shirt OR blazer over shirt. In my opinion all outerwear pieces r essentials they are not foundational stuff; leather jackets denim jackets and sweaters elevate an outfit. They r essential and based on taste
Asia I love your videos!! You are such an inspiration to me and my style - if I could pay you to shop for me, I would. Question: do you have any tips for someone who wants to rebuild their wardrobe, but can’t afford designer prices? It sucks because I can only afford fast fashion, but I don’t want to participate it anymore due to quality, ethics and brands like forever 21, fashion nova, etc aren’t really my style. I want to try shopping at Zara & Urban Outfitters more, but I can only afford it when items are on sale. Any tips? Thanks!!
I'm scared of buying basics that will last me for a decade or more because my body weight fluctuates every 2 months (I have a hormone disorder). Now I know why I never look cohesive, it's because my closet is full of essentials but not basics. Thanks for the informative video though !!❤
I wish I knew these things when I first started buying my own clothes. I would always get the mannequin outfits from stores and none out the pieces went well with other outfits
I'm a basics girl and I think that being like that is the way that I express myself I think? For me it shows that i'm a laid back person, and kinda lazy about dressing up (even tho I LOVE learning about fashion)
Found you via #RUclipsBlack Voices Creator Class of 2021. Congrats! I am a new subscriber. I plan to build my wardrobe and look forward to all your videos. Wishing you an INCREDIBLE year!! ~Elizabeth
I love these videos, you've helped me so much in realizing how and what to buy in order to build a wardrobe that's more than just trendy peices put together! 💗
the way i see it is, basics are always essential, but essentials are not always basic.
That good phrasing😃
thx orochimaru
💯
Okay giving us classy secretary “the ceo will see you shortly” vibes, or literally the ceo herself lol!
This is the only online class that I'm paying attention to.
Asawaq is
I'm trying to multitask right now lol
I divide clothes into 3 categories: classics (ur basics), essentials (like u) and basics, clothes that are in fashion right now
Nice method
I do that too but I call the third category “trendy”
I always buy trendy stuff and will have no basics like a whole dummy lmao going to an interview in a windbreaker 😂
House of farts 😂
"it's the yeehaw agenda" (Jackson, 2020) 🤠✊🏽
you make fashion science. i love it

Asia Jackson Thanks so much for the thorough response! The bit about buying a looser fit to accommodate possible changes is a true gem ☝🏾💎
omg we have the same name!!
I felt compelled to comment because i couldn’t define my style before and this video helped me understand my own personal style and how to explain it so thank you!!
Yo how did you know this was the video I needed right now
I saw you posting this thumbnail and was so ready to see this
I definitely did not know the difference between basics and essentials 🤦🏾♀️ Thank you for breaking it down girl 💛
okay ms.graphic design w the new thumbnail style! my top 3 essentials are silver jewellery, brightly coloured tops, and probably a good shoe sneaker or boot
This was so informative and its made me realise that I don't have nearly enough basics.
Same.
I’ve been wanting to switch up my wardrobe and wasn’t quite sure what to do but now I got it. Thank you!!!
This was incredibly helpful. I’m starting over on my wardrobe and have been collecting basics but knowing about the essentials is a game changer. Thank you!
You have given me a lot to think about.
This is amazing, its like you are a fashion professor
I love thiss!! It's honestly like fashion school highly needed this.
i love how she always tells people to be intentional whether in fashion choices or life

i found her channel yesterday.. and literally I am binge watching your videos from yesterday..
When you said everybody doesn’t want to tell their story through what they wear my mind went *boom* lol
Your hair is gorgeous!!
House of farts omg thank you 💙
Essentials for me are printed jeans; animal print, plaid, striped jeans are a must!
This was super, super helpful. Thank you! I get so lost putting outfits together and this helps tremendously. I also love how you acknowledge that not everyone fits into a box and you speak on that. I am for sure subscribing and sharing!
this is one of the most helpful fashion videos I’ve ever watched.. thanks!

This is an eye-opening video, thanks!
You showd me fringe and cowboy boots as fashion and this was still very helpful. Congratulations, good job.

ah thank you for this! it was so fun even though personally can't go out right now haha
