    My first flight was in a Grumman Widgeon when I was about 6 years old. Auckland, New Zealand has many islands in its outer harbor. In the 1950s Fred Ladd built a small airline, NZ Tourist Air Travel, with a fleet of Widgeons to improve accessibility. In a 30 minute flight to Great Barrier Island, I got the flying bug leading eventually to a commercial license. I look forward to reliving those local flights in the sim.

    (1) Your engine sounds pose no difficulty to hearing your commentary. Watch your posted videos over and see what level of tweaking will make them audible.
    (2) I've always dreamed of porting over my best aircraft from all other sims into the beautiful world that is MSFS, and it seems my prayers have been answered. I love good textures but before we get there, I'm quite cool with what we have now, provided they're passable like the Grumman here.
    (3) Love your work, best wishes from a new fan living in Nigeria 🇳🇬 👏!!

    Thanks for this Alan. Your enthusiasm and knowledge really shines through in your videos. I also like to see these less well known aircraft and I too am less interested in textures. It's more about the flying for me.

    Very nice review of this plane. I ended up buying it because of it and have enjoyed flying this plane. Thanks and great job!

    I think you way exaggerate how loud tye sounds in the sim are. Your voice is loud and clear, and I would rather be able to hear the engine sounds at all times.
    You reviews are extremely good BTW! 👍

    In the new Fantasy Island, which I struggled to get through 1 episode of, the plane the guests come in on is a Twin Otter. I am so ready for Aerosoft to get that done and out to us!

    Got this a while ago when decided wanted a bigger amphib than the A5 (great for flying but just wasn't always so satisfying as this) and absolutely love it.

    I wish people would review updated aircraft more often. The flight models, systems and sounds are often very updated compared to when they are first release, and reviews from 10 months ago are often very unreliable.
    I would love yo see a review of the Cessna 140 on floats or of some of the WWII planes which have had updated flight models.

      Sounds like a good idea, I will definitely look into doing that.

      The c140 improved a lot over the first few patches and almost all the initial teething problems were rectified. It still has a few minor issues which they said will be addressed in the post-SU6 patch they are currently working on. Personally I highly recommend it. It is however true that many people judge aircraft on their first release reviews even if they are now totally different.

      @@Edam-Channel Problem is that many reviewers want to get the 'first blow' in with anew product so they get loads of views on their channel.

      Definitely agree, I've been on the fence with a few planes (like the Nextgen Embraer), after the initial reviews it didn't feel up to scratch on quite a few elements. I see the issues with views doing something after the release, but there could be a decent following on a 'where are they now' style series, maybe 6 months or so down the line from release.

    Enjoyed the review, thanks. I have a question about an add on you seem to be running. It's in the upper left of screen & is displaying some graphics info, is it available somewhere? thanks

    Nice review, you do have the engine sounds very low but what I heard of the startup from outside sure brought back memories. The manifold pressure gauges seem to be all over the place, I thought it was just once immediately after takeoff but watching again properly it's not a one off thing. So glad you mentioned The Plane! The Plane! had been modded to have radials because I always thought it was a Goose and until you said that I was thinking "nope ..." :) I also used to wonder why Tattoo bothered, we used to own a house near the top of a hill close to an approach path G21s and G44s used almost every day when landing at a local beach and I knew for a fact that bell was a complete waste of time, a pair of P&W radials thundering past a few hundred metres away used to literally rattle our windows some days, if people didn't notice that racket then they certainly wouldn't notice a bell and an excited squeal :-D

      As for the engine noise, that's specific yo this mod I think. I bought this yesterday and flew it around for about an hour and noticed the cabin sound is VERY low. Maybe there's a setting I need to play around with, but I had the same thing

    Original G21 had fixed floats same as the Widgeon. The retractables came as a later after market upgrade :D

    nice review however I am very put off by the modeling and texture work on this plane, it looks like FSX quality and certainly not next gen. For $30 I would expect a higher level of finish.

    • @ChockHolocaust
      @ChockHolocaust  3 года назад +1

      Whilst I tend to agree that the cockpit texturing is not 'top drawer', I think it does sort of capture the feel of an old aeroplane. There are lots of very good exterior paint schemes for it too on flightsim.to, which makes it a good proposition in that regard. If I'm honest, What it does however do, is point up how good Asobo and Carenado are at texturing rather than indicating others are bad at it. Ultimately, for £15, which is what I paid for it with a bit of a loyalty bonus discount, I'm personally pretty happy with the way it looks, although others may disagree of course.

    I just got this and love it. Absolutely love Indiana Jones era planes in the simulator. Some of the textures aren’t the best and at least the compass does not actually work on the dash. I noticed that when I’m done flying and shut the engines and everything off it sounds like there are switches that keep clicking constantly I’m not sure if this is a bug or something with my flight sim hardware I cannot seem to find what is clicking or why anyone else experiencing this?

    • @Edam-Channel
      @Edam-Channel 3 года назад +1

      that is intentional, it is the engine cooling down

    • @natedogg7376
      @natedogg7376 3 года назад

      @@Edam-Channel I actually thought that but the sound effects are so identical to a switch being toggle on and off but I thought it was possibly a bug. Funny my first thought was that it sounds like metal pinging and tinging and cooling down but it also sounds like switches

    Do you not ever watch your video's back to monitor volumes ? It's a shame, I love your reviews but just can't enjoy an airplane in flight when there's no engine sound.

    • @ChockHolocaust
      @ChockHolocaust  3 года назад +2

      Yes, I do, and I usually include a bit where you get to hear the engines, but then I drop the volume so it doesn't interfere with the V/O. But I will take a look at some of them and see if I can tweak the method a bit more.

    Each engine have 2 magnetoes for redundancy.. thats why we test them on the runup :) to check that both works for all engines

    • @ChockHolocaust
      @ChockHolocaust  3 года назад +1

      Yup, but I don't really want to waste time on a review doing that, which is why instead I usually say that the manual covers that kind of thing, and even then it only normally has an effect if you have damage and full realism selected in the options for the sim :-)

    • @Edam-Channel
      @Edam-Channel 3 года назад +1

      Actually partly the opposite, the magneto switch shorts out the spark when off which means if it fails mid air the engine will still run for safety, but if it fails the magneto is always live and hand moving the prop can have it fire and kick over. So it is partly a safety check to make sure the mags are not live when they should be off.
