What I love about Bangladeshi music is that it incorporates a lot of deep rooted village folk music alongside modern musical sounds so that it caters for the older generation of Bengali folks who are traditionalist and grew up listening to folk songs and for the younger generation of Bengali folks who enjoy modern music so that way just by virtue of this, it brings the two generations together. Coke studio Bangla also invites and welcomed non Bangladeshis who simply love the language of music and are open minded such as yourself to appreciate the efforts of Coke Studio Bangla and their diverse use of amalgamating different musical concepts together. The coir is a traditonal song sung by specific workers who used to sing this when they build floors of a building. Now what they are singing comes from our local myths as well, Kali is a Hindu deity where Monsa is the God of snakes. As one snake bit Lokhindar, son of a marchant who refused to worship Monsa, during his marriage night. Wife of Lokhindor went through a journey to eventually claim his life back while the marchant eventually agrees to worship Monsa. So, this too is a long story, sung in the rythm while they just work!

Actually Bangladesh is a riverine country.. There are a lot of metaphor related to river and riverly life. "Broken boat" refers to our life. It is not perfect. Everyone has their own issue with their life.. Yet we have to live with these problems as like rowing the broken boat in a mighty river though the boat is broken we know. And "River" means life. The flow of life is compared to a river here. One day we will all go far with the flow of the river from this materialistic life.
Two members of the Dewan family: Sagar Dewan and Arif Dewan. Their ancestor is the original composer of the song Ma Lo Ma Zhi Lo Zhi. The song Ma Lo Ma teaches us that life is a continuous journey. Growing up and nostalgia are inevitably two sides of the same coin. Acknowledging this inevitable change, the song proceeds like a conversation. Here life is represented by the analogy of a broken boat and the world is represented by a river.
The addition of 'Chaad Petano Song' (it means, hit the Roof-top by rhythmic sound) adds depth to this song. This genre of folk music 'sari song' started during the Mughal period. An urban version of this song can be found among the Masons of the eighties and nineties. These workers, who migrated to the city for livelihood, used to sing such songs while making concrete roofs. The lyrics combined with the pounding rhythm of the song create a festive atmosphere during work while also banishing boredom. 'Ma Lo Ma' is not just a song. Audiences of all ages can relate to this song.

actually the 'broken boat' symbolizes the body, as it is slowly degrading/decaying over time. The life is the river. The philosophy here is that the body is your vehicle and you are riding it (and you are not the body). It goes much deeper than that though.
