Hello Daniel, I really enjoy your videos. I always learn something new or understand something better than I did. Erica is a beautiful model and a constant professional. Thank you for your videos.
enjoyed seeing this one light shoot - the lighting is fab and the poses erica comes up with look so good making nice shapes and curves with confidence really shines
Like you say, it is sometimes good to explore light/photography in more organic way. That is how I like to do. Depending about context, feeling, environment... just testing and founding what is looking good for me/model/subject that time if there is not exact scenario what result have to look like.
What are your settings? The thing I struggle with is how do you make the background appear grey, instead of white? Is that just the result from the light itself? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I never get the thumbs down on these videos, Great demo, and watching Erica's expressions behind you are always hilarious, she should try out for Vanna Whites job when she retires haha
Hey if you don’t mind, can you give me a quick rundown of how you shot the video? I see the sling studio in the description. Is that sending images to the Capture One software?
Great instructional video. Just a quick question Daniel, What is the average hourly rate for a good model in NY? Obviously this can differ on skill/experience, but ballpark figure.
nice shooting. But why are your pictures so dark ? I wouldn have expected you retouch them a little bit. Do you mean that this simple setup simulates natural light through a window ? I looked some karl taylor setups and he uses 120x180cm soft box which is awful to build on site and expensive. should it work with a ad400pro and a reflector ? what are your camera settings ?
You are looking at the images as they are coming out of my camera, not some retouched images that have been tweaked and the lighting modified. How could I teach Lighting if I showed you fully retouched images that didn’t actually show the lighting?
Thanks Daniel, I just meant that because you didn't show flashmeter measurements i found the images too dark for editing so i wondered how to setup camera for this kind of light. I'd like to reproduce it with my daughter who is pregnant and asked you if we can simulate a natural window lighting this way instead of westcott 120x180cm.
Always enjoy your vids Daniel but an observation I rarely hear any direction to the model, I see so many of the images where minor changes in pose would radically improve the image
Daniel Norton Photographer sorry if that sounded like a criticism, I was thinking it be even more helpful to the viewers if you talked about those things at the same time
@@positiveendtimes the video is about positioning the subject relative to the light. Daniel uses pro models to be able to get these videos done quickly, easily and not let the message be diluted by other talking. I'm sure there are many posing "how-to" videos on Adorama or Daniel's channels.
Hi Daniel,,,Love watching all of your content,,, A lot of what you show is dark and or moody looks,,, which is normally a look defined to Men,,, as you have your own studio,,, Im curious as to how many women ask for portraits in that way,,, as from my understanding Women in general prefer high key type photos White background good makeup showing there handbags and shoes etc. Whilest I realise your showing / demonstrating different lighting types,,, but im just curious,,, if its something your clients would ask for.
I’d say anybody can benefit from low key/moody lighting and not just men. Sure, there are a demographic of clients who always want the typical set-up, but I’m all for breaking that cycle and would love to do a moody shoot for women, because in reality, everyone isn’t always having a “high key” type of day, ya know?
Thank you Daniel for sharing. I like your simple ideas that produce a variety of rich results. Awesome!
Thanks

Moving subject or light or both opens up new ideas. Thanks Daniel and Erica

@@DanielNortonPhotographer Most Welcome
Really good! Fascinating changes to mood of the shot with so little difference in model/light relationship.

As always good. Thanks to you both.
Thank You!
Nice, Daniel and Erica. It seems that you and Erica have ESP... (Almost no talk required for you to understand each other.) Pretty shots!
Thanks 🙏🏻
hey daniel,
what’s your advice on finding models to work with if you’re new to portrait? thanks in advance, great video. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Start with friends & family, then photo meetup groups, then model mayhem, by then hire pro models or they’ll be asking you

The other way around -everything goes into the sling

Typically fees are based on the scope of the project
@@DanielNortonPhotographer for just studio work like you are doing, not commercial, personal projects.
It is a great video. Learned some good insight!
Thank You!

You will typically get requests for the types of images you show.
Good ide to show the little diagrams :-)
Thanks
Power flash??
you can also achieve with speedlight flash to use a little bit ISO
The flash is a 500ws Profoto B1x
💯😉😊
Thanks
I like it better when you use strobes that don't cost 2500$. Makes me remember craft, skill and experience are everything....not kit.
Why would the brand of light matter here?
