I have a 2001 that only has 21K on it. I put new Michelins on and tried mine out and did 142-145 and did not have a full twist on the throttle. I say 142-145 because there weren't any real long looks at the dial at that speed. I backed off pretty quickly after that cause I was running out of straight away. They are a lot quicker than most people believe they are. The bike in this video was doing about 6750 rpm at about 95 mph in 3rd gear. It is a 6 speed tranny also.
I think it's factory claimed at 126. Gotta remember it's a big, wide, tall, saddle-bagged, shaft drive, detuned, comfortable, sport-TOURING bike. Plenty of faster bikes, but at this price point, it's hard to beat the complete package of one of these. Mine has 55k miles on it and still makes the wife and I smile riding 2 up, gets around 35mpg (would do better but it's hard to resist hard throttling), can bring home groceries (24 pack of soda on one side a gallon of milk and a family box of Salisbury steak on the other both with room to spare), and comfortable enough that my hips, rear, and back don't ache even on long rides.
Pulls pretty hard, that's that Ninja engine for ya! And trust me, it doesn't get boring!
Sheldon Bourgeois yes sir it moves all thAt weight pretty good, thanks for watching.
I owned an 89 and it was a joy to ride, plenty of power and very comfortable.
I'm ready for another connie
@@jered2177 will that one be a 1000cc or the 1400
Neat bike, Would of got one if I hadn't been offered an 03 st for a steal
not bad at all. thanks for the video.
Just bought an 05' 1000. I understand the powerband is wide, but what is your average rpm shift?
You can shift early or late it'll pull
Is that stock exhaust?
What's your 0-60 on this bad boy? Nice ride btw
From what I looked up 3.8
Is that engine noise is normal?
I hear it very noisy
Like its ticking or need valve adjustment
Yes in good condition
Normal.
No that's normal. My valves are right on the money and that's what I'm hearing.
Windshield echo’s a lot of engine sound!
Straight cut gears and shaft drive, it's normal for it to whine like a race car
I just got an O2... 70,000 miles on it...
Good reliable bikes,congrats
just broken in, got 97,000 on my 87
43k on my 2002. So I imagine you have done long trips. Was curious about reliability.
Those miles were mostly some1 elses...@@seanhutchins1
so whats the true top speed of it? not what the speedometer say but its real world capability?
Around 120
@@jered2177 not terrible but I think I'm looking for more like 160. Seems like anything capable of that can get away from the loonies a lot quicker.
@@_AndromedaGalaxy_ vfr 1200 top out at indicated 160
