I'm glad to see the Fenrir ODE is getting the attention it deserves. I've had my original Fenrir since the first production run and installed it in a Japanese v.0 launch edition just like yours. Without it, I'd never have had the opportunity to play and love this underrated system.
Awesome! I really dig the aesthetic of the JPN Saturn. Something different from the usual all black scheme we get on too many systems these days in the US.

I’ve got a Satiator card that plugs into the back behind that door where the battery is. It uses that slot that’s meant for the Video CD Card. Works perfectly and no modding required :)
where does one download games for it?
great video I will go to Japan in exactly a month and probably pick up a saturn and then when I am back home I get a Fenrir .
We had a Saturn when I was Kid back when it came out and I loved it so I want to pick one up again.

I have a Terraonion MODE in my Saturn... I absolutely LOVE it...
Yeah the MODE is far superior. Allows harddrives as a larger capacity option. It also preserves the expansion bay for adding a V-CD expansion module, which I added to mine 👍
@@TexasHollowEarth I got a V-cd as well for games like Lunar that use it... Also, the guy that helped me set it up gave me every single Saturn V-cd file, which was awesome, and quite a throwback... Was gonna get a 2nd MODE for my custom Dreamcast, but they swap so easily, I just swap it between them with Saturn on the hard drive and Dreamcast on the SD card... May end up getting another someday though...

There's a mod called the Saturn Switcher that allows you to keep the disc drive and the Fenrir inside the console!
Sure is! Tito over at Macho Nacho Productions put together a fine video for it. Definitely worth a watch.
Or you just get the satiator and call it a day!
@@MiKeFish2012 Last I checked, I think the Satiator alone costs more than Fenrir + Switcher combined.
Though for convenience, the Satiator does seem pretty nice.
I’m liking the accessible mods in addition to softmods featured on the channel.
I have the older Fenrir 20-pin model with 3D printed tray, it's simply awesome not having to depend on physical media and an aging laser. I wish I had the Duo in case I have to replace the Saturn and can't find another 20-pin model, but for now it does its job perfectly!

I got the Laser Bear tray & everything fit into place perfectly. I didn't have any issues other than the time & energy of installation.
I was going to go Fenrir but my disc drive still works. Wife is getting me a satiator for my birthday this month.
This is cool but the Satiatior is much simpler. Plug it into the expansion port in the back and your done. Goes in there where the coincell battery goes. And keeps the funcionality of your disc reader intact. No disassembly, literally up and running in 10 minutes from getting the package. Same ability with sd card as this, but much much simpler.

There is a software mod to this version which you use both ribbon cables and place the FD transverse to the right of the optics hub so you can copy your games to the SD card along with some other functions, but you have to know somebody to get it. ;)
I'm a bit confused. In the video you do the installation and then set up the SD card. Doesn't the SD card need to be installed in the Fenrir before it gets closed up?

Been using the pseudo cart and cdr backups. Would consider this if the disc drive goes out.

My saturn works fine, but I ponied up the dough for a satiator. It's pricy, but so are games. Still it's nice to play my original games if I want
Mednafen just had an update for SEGA Saturn. I am going to see if it works probably tomorrow. I want to play Daytona USA. I bought the system and the game back in the day.

That bracket must be new. If anyone researching before getting a japanese saturn get a hst-3210 model atleast, it doesnt have as many connections inside. The one in this video is a hst-3200
I have two questions: 1. Does this potentially replace the Memory Card for the Saturn? 2. Do the games run better like this than on the original Saturn or emulation? Cheers!
1. no, but you can back them up to the sd card, and recover them later.
2. a tad better, yes. there's technical limitations when you have to emulate a cd drive
I use the Satiator so I can still use discs even though I sold off all my discs... go figure.

Only problem is updates are slow. Still using a DUO beta for nearly a year now that fixed IGR and some boot issues.
The firmware showed 11-2022 at the time of the video and the assembly date on mine was 12-2022. Probably already up to date. I get what you mean, it's a low roll for firmware improvements.

It does look really simple but I couldn't do that just cause I always feel like I'm that one person that would break it lol also this is why I love the dreamcast don't gotta do anything to play the copy discs

The ribbon cables are very flimsy and finicky. Some frustration included. It works though.

Region lock is nothing. In every version or iteration of these alleged region locked systems it was always possible for 30 to $50 to buy a cartridge or some sort of device that would bypass it within days or weeks of its release. My version happened to be a cartridge bypass that allowed you to plug in another cartridge which allowed you to expand the memory at the same time as create save states rather than save games and it unlocked the system.

exFAT is overkill for the Saturn. But hey, even the regular PS2's OPL doesn't support exFAT right now. The OPL team need to wake up and FAST 😆
Still too expensive ! Every ODE option for the Saturn is still expensive, that's why I'm still using a Phantom modchip (easy to install and very cheap) and old CDR backups, yes, I'm using the drive's laser but the compatibility is 100%, like the originals, ODEs still lack the 100% compatibility, specially if you dive into obscure Saturn games in Japanese region.

It's a quality option. The M.O.D.E. is a banger too. So many great ways to enjoy these amazing titles on original hardware.

Sound is working for me. Check to make sure the player isn't muted for you with the on-screen controls for RUclips.
I know I occasionally have that problem with the mobile app, usually if i exit and restart the app the sound works, not sure if the same if you're on PC

Sega Genisis and Dreamcast are the best Sega consoles. Saturn was trash.
