I don't know if you received my other correspondence but I really enjoyed last nights giveaway show. I did a lot of explaining about why and how I would really like to purchase one of your own knives. I am on the list at White Mtn. for the Kizer Begleiter XL but it will be a minimum of 90 days + 2 weeks they tell me. Would you consider selling me you own personal knife I saw last night. Yes, absolutely worth it… I received the Spyderco Stovepipe today and it’s an unique and stunning folder true to the original “Bill the Butcher” design from artist Dave Rydbom. The design, craftsmanship, materials and machining that went into this folder is just amazing and the forms and contours in their shapes are very harmonious and well balanced. In contrast to other Spyderco knifes, the Stovepipe is all about the form and perhaps not so much fit and function although I have no issues the way it sits and feels in my hand. The size of the Stovepipe is perfect in my personal opinion and it carries very well in my jeans pocket, not deep so it easily pulls out when needed. The Stovepipe is extremely sharp and cuts through every material (paper, cardboard, wood, rope, rubber, plastic) and food I had laying around like butter. I noticed and experienced 2 specific positions to hold and use the Stovepipe for either cutting, chopping and/or carving. The heavy blade and straight cutting edge only amplified and assisted complementary in these activities. The rhino nose, I read in one of Dave’s old posts was actually intended to break a car window (not a flat screwdriver as some may suspect) which I believe it definitely can but I won’t test ;-). I also believe the Stovepipe will perform and even look better the more I practice with it, utilize and apply it as a no nonsense but very attractive and functional EDC folder. Time will tell. It was love at first sight when I saw the Stovepipe folder and thus far I’m not disappointed in any way.
@@mad0uche It's a nice piece of art. You might just be too broke for it. Oh yeah, keep in mind that the world doesn't stop at your state border. You guys can't come close to Taiwanese people when it comes to machining.
I ordered the Stovepipe and it will be my first Spyderco folder. It was love at first sight… It’s an impressive folder and you can tell there’s a lot of complex machining time that went into it. It’s a lot of money but definitely a lot of knife too. The Stovepipe is true to its original design which was inspired by custom knifemaker David Rydbom’s “Bill the Butcher” folder which I always admired. The Stovepipe is an unique no-nonsense folder with an artistic and distinct flare. I’m extremely excited for this one to arrive.
I’ve watched this video at least five times over the months, longing for this knife but not wanting to drop that money on this particular model. I’m back because KnifeJoy came to play with a Father’s Day sale putting it at $295. Instant but thanks to this video. Can’t wait.
Just got this today and I got not be any more happy. I was so shocked by the craftsmanship and Precision of the McBee. This Stovepipe is the large father of the Juvenile McBee and takes it to a whole new level in the Spyderco Gene Pool. This one comes in the Spyderco Knife bag so you know its top shelf 😎
Finally Got mine. Love it. Works well for my hand/fingers. So unique and well made. Obviously if I could only afford one knife then I would only have a Military/Para 2/sebenza or similar slicer. I recommend it if you don’t have sausage fingers
If they come out with an XL version, that's milled inside, three and a half inch blade, I am in!! Larger hands so the 4 finger grip really isn't an option for me. Beautiful knife!

MC actually has a knife steels ranked video. It’s pretty good but there are a lot of steels and it is confusing so dont feel bad. I have explained steels to essentially every person that gets into knives. It’s all basically a three way trade off of edge retention, toughness (resistance to chipping) and rust resistance. Steels that you really cant go wrong with are S30V, S35VN, S45VN. Those are some really common steels that are really good all rounders. There are more but I think you’ll run into those pretty often. Bohler M390 and CPM 20CV are basically top of the pack right now. D2, AUS10A and 14C28N are pretty good budget steels that maybe dont have the best edge retention or stainless qualities but they get the job done. Hope that helps a little and I hope others pitch in too.
To truly enjoy knives with all theses fancy Steel, I think you have to know if you're a knife guy user or a sharpenning enthusiast. If you don't enjoy sharpenning than stick with "basic" knife Steel or soft ones.
@TheMinidoo a guided diamond stone sharpening system like the KME will make even super steels easy to sharpen. It's no longer exclusive to people who have practiced extensively. The average person can teach themselves in less than a week
Definitely feel like it's an interestin knife. Found the pivot to be real nice. It's a fairly small knife, but I'm sure the actual height of of the blade, along with the bulk of the handle, make it feel bigger than it actually is. Just makes it easier to customize and refinish down the road when it's broken in and nicely worn. But these USA companies want way too much for titanium and s35vn especially since the s35vn is American steel and Titanium itself isn't expensive though it does cost a bit to process it.

I like the design but wish it was larger. And, as a leftie,….sigh. Also, the price is steep for me, and there are other knives I’d rather have at that price.
Anyone not convinced of the Tiawan made knives quality needs to handle a “Kapara”, the fit, finish and action of that knife is absolutely phenomenal, I wish Spyderco would use the “pivot bushing” set up on more knives. It
I am by no means a knife enthusiast/afficionado(sp?). I pack a S&W Extreme Ops around just cause it seems practical to have a knife on me. But I am so close to snatching one of these up!
I did all those tests with my twosuns and they had no blade play. No detent lash no pivot lash. No lock stick. No stinky farts. No Hotspot no 425dollar price tag. No nothing. So does that mean my twosuns are better. Probably
I get the novelty factor and it looks beautifully constructed. I can’t get past the finger cutouts… they don’t make aesthetic sense to me and it’s like someone gave up halfway through the design process. Overall my takeaway from the review is that form beat the snot out of function. As much as I like beautiful things, it has to function well too, so I’m out on this one. Not my bag.
Hey MC, in regards to the price. Did you see birdshots video from shot show? The rep from Spyderco that they were talking to literally tried to justify the price of the production knife because of the cost of the designers customs on the secondary market….. go check it out if you haven’t. Sorry I can’t remember the time when it happened.

“Taiwan is not China”
Thank you for saying this, I hope China doesn’t hear you say it!
I like the disign and everything else but come on 600$ msrp even for 400$ is too much here is nothing in this knife that make me whant to spend that much on it. It's very similar in term of built to the spydiechef for 200$ more 😂 why?
Here so many other interesting and special knife out there in this price range fair price for me would be between 250 to 300$ not more.
Anyway as always great video MC 🤝
This is the kind of knife I need to handle first because my eye says yes but I’ve been burned a few times before just trusting my eyes
I really like the design but chunky boys like this never get pocket time for me exactly because of the space issue you mentioned. Also dude now I cannot unsee that it looks like a cut rhino horn lol
About the cost, gotta also consider the designer has got to get paid.
It’s polarizing. Leave it at that
when I heard Titan, it was over for me, I don't care if it is more expensive than in China or anywhere else. Watches shall be from Swiss, Motorcycles from America and cars from Germany .
I like the design but wish it was larger. And, as a leftie,….sigh. Also, the price is steep for me, and there are other knives I’d rather have at that price.
F that for 425. What, do they think they are Taiwan Microtech now.
The price doesn't bother me, I just don't find it aesthetically pleasing.
Anyone not convinced of the Tiawan made knives quality needs to handle a “Kapara”, the fit, finish and action of that knife is absolutely phenomenal, I wish Spyderco would use the “pivot bushing” set up on more knives. It
If it was closer to $350 I might be more enticed.
Stovepipe was $420 but since January 2023 it’s $448!
I am by no means a knife enthusiast/afficionado(sp?). I pack a S&W Extreme Ops around just cause it seems practical to have a knife on me. But I am so close to snatching one of these up!
The beauty of being a knife enthusiast is that most of us just go after whatever looks cool. Do what makes you happy 👍
I wanna mod one
Can anyone tell me how im ever going to get my hands on a hinderer ??? because it's been seemingly impossible to get the one I want
1puglife needs this knife
I love the knife but no way I can convince my wife it’s worth it lol
I did all those tests with my twosuns and they had no blade play. No detent lash no pivot lash. No lock stick. No stinky farts. No Hotspot no 425dollar price tag. No nothing. So does that mean my twosuns are better. Probably
Basically the same weight (and cost!) as a large Sebenza. Pass!
Love a good Spyderco but not a massive fan of this one.
Well worth the $300 I paid for it!
I think I need this knife.
I like it but it's just to small. For me it's a small knife
I’ll be that guy…it’s not appealing to me in any way. Thanks for sharing though. 👍🏻
A “stovepipe” in the gun world is a bad thing…
The cheapest I've seen it is 480.$!!!! But still cool
Love to have it Just too much price.
Not my bag.
Did I win a prize?
Never mind it’s a scam
Gotta say 'heck no' on worth 425 to me... kinda cute, though.
I believe it. But I also said at the end of my video that it should be a fair bit lower to match realistic competition.
for $420, I want the missing end of the blade. Yes I know it's a design (flaw)..
Should've been called Rhino.
I can definitely see why you'd say that, but Spyderco already has a rhino. I think this one is more fitting for that name though.
I paid $450 for a knife made of titanium and zirconium with a damasteel blade. This Spyderco is trash for that price.
Hard pass at that size. Good thing I watched this because I damn near pulled the trigger lol
Personally if they made it 350 or 375 people would get it more i think or even 400
How to unsee the rhino now??!!! 😁
Not worth half that
I have no strong feelings one way or the other.
I love Spyderco. But, they are a little overpriced.
Can’t believe I missed the GAW 😭😭😭
sounds like my kinda knife
