Oasis at Knebworth - Noel Gallagher Exclusive Behind the Scenes Interview (1996)

- On 12 August 1996, ITN's Nick Glass reported on Oasis' historic two-night gig on the grounds of Knebworth House in Hertfordshire. Cameras captured the mammoth task undertaken by Oasis' stage crew in preparing a concert attended by 125,000 each night, as well as a typically antagonistic and brief press conference held by songwriter Noel Gallagher, frontman Liam Gallagher, guitarist Paul Arthurs (aka Bonehead), bassist Paul McGuigan, and drummer Alan White. They also interviewed fans as they arrived for the first of the two record-breaking gigs - at the time the largest outdoor concerts in UK history. Backstage, ITN spoke to Noel Gallagher himself. With characteristic attitude, Gallagher reflected on the band's rapid and seemingly unstoppable rise, their reputation as the badboys of British rock, where the band were heading next, and the future of British music in general.

What a time to be alive! 1996 what a year for Britain and music!
selling 70 million records definitely got Noel the best dentist in London

For sure
That nose has been done too
"This is history... this is history"
-Noel Gallagher Knebworth '96
"Thought it was Knebworth, what you on about man?"
@@Sekriest haha, hello Liam
@@Sekriest "oh lets all go to history to see oasis this weekend"
That’s what you call huge, there will never be another band like them, moment in time, loved the atitude of the 90’s no one got offended and everyone lived in the moment and enjoyed themselves, not a smartphone in sight
Absolutely spot on
Those were the days. As Noel says in Supersonic - it was the last great event before the Internet really started to take over. Everyone, just present in the moment - no mobile phones in front of people's faces, recording every song, no getting ripped off by some bot online, grabbing all the tickets. Rock n Roll - let's 'av it.
Noel's mobile phone is hilarious
It was only around 10 years later that people started filming nights out on their phones. Facebook only started getting big in ‘06/‘07.
Even RUclips only started around the same time.
The technology actually wasn’t that different in the early 00’s, the internet wasn’t super fast broadband speeds, websites were still basic.
The overall vibe in popular culture was definitely much more innocent in the mid 90’s though, this was like a communal scene.
I remember Artic Monkeys became pretty massive in the mid 00’s playing big gigs but nothing like this.
The good old days. I was 19.
Me too
Same👊 I was there on the Saturday🤟
I was 8, and I can remember a lot.
1:51, Noel's ancient flip top brick phone 😂
the phones were sh-t but the music was biblical. Now, the phones are biblical but the musics sh-t
@@signoguns8501this is a genius statement 😂
I was there on the Saturday and i was 20, £22.50 for a ticket. For that we got. Bootleg beatles, chemical bros, Ocean Color Scene, manics, prodigy and oasis..yep let that sink in.... all for £22.50. it was a night to remember. For those that understand no explanation is needed for those that dont no explanation is possible
5:08 some new footage of the prodigy playing
A Simple World; was only 18 then.
They are back!
Man I miss the 90s. Music was great back then growing up, not now😩😢
Nothing came after them with the same impact
and the same quality.
Robbie Williams was bigger and did bigger gigs at Knebworth
@@Two_Seat_Pete_FatA55no, Oasis had far bigger demand and could have put on several more nights. Secondly, Oasis sold more....Karaoke William's was nowhere near the height of this mania.
@theycantallbezodiac williams could've put on several nights too. Also williams has sold 20.6 million albums in the UK. Oasis have sold 16.4 million in the UK. Both have sold similar worldwide. Williams was bigger in the UK. Bigger concerts, more albums sold. The numbers don't lie. Don't be upset about it lollll.
@@Two_Seat_Pete_FatA55 oasis could have done 14 nights. Oasis were at the forefront of a musical shift in the 90s. I don't think you quite understand the impact Oasis had, and the demand. But hey, I'll carry on being upset
Best band in the world, then and now
gracias x compartir saludos desde bahÍa blanca bsas

Noel is so cute
Good footage!

Greatest band of all time.!!!

He makes a good point at the start, a lot of people now copy them and it’s has its pros and cons
they're back.
He looks like a completely different person now.
He is a totally different person now. Changed for the worse.

I know a lot of people on here will find it hard to believe but the DJ Sean Rowley, who is on at 5.39 , is a former Met Officer. He and i both did our Met PTI course in 1983 together. To say that my jaw dropped when i saw him on here, is an understatement. Well done Sean, getting out and getting on
Was that first time you knew about his career in broadcasting? I used to see him pop up on TV quite a lot in the 90’s.
@@lucasm3879 No i saw him on Channel 4 20 or so years ago, and i just twigged that it was the bold Sean, top lad. By the way there is a photo of our class at Hendon and he is on the front row,
Woke up on a Saturday morning, met up with a few friends. Friend of a friend of a friend had a ticket but was unable to go. So I said "I'll take it", 20 quid. So, I ended up going to the Saturday gig. Not really an Oasis fan (I was more keen on some of he support acts tbh) but it was a long, fun, but way, way, way to crowded day out.
The one oasis gig i never made it to in 96,still pisses me off till this day, they will never be another band like this, but we still have Liam doing what he was born to do,thatl do me
9 hours before the show theyre showing….where do you relieve yourself?
That’s what I think , what about eating and having to pee ??? I could not hang on for 9 bloody hours 😮
fala o que pensa, não tá nem aí pros outros
Ele toca muito bem... é o cara!
Noel's teeth look far better now than then
That's the important thing innit...Noels fookin teeth.
Lots and lots of money

Good job little buddy
That’s because they’re fake
The DJ bloke was right. In 1996 they were the best British band for 20 years since the Sex Pistols started in 1976.When i left school in 1982 theyre was effing nothing.Wish there was a band like this that started up then.Oasis were huge and the reunion has made them even bigger.

"FORT-EEN"
"Fou-een" ..and the other lad, "fou-ee" xD lol
In retrospect, Knebworth came too early. I mean, they released their debut album just 2 years earlier. Fast rise but the hype was quickly over even though things continued to go well for years
No its' just opposite, they play this shows at their peak of the band.

Still Robbie Williams out sold the band with a Man U Drummer.
He didn't, he just put on an extra night to wind up Oasis. Oasis could have sold out 14 nights and they sold more records.
