Batman doesn’t usually get to retire and have a happy ending but that last scene where Bruce gives Alfred the goodbye he always wanted and you see Selina is with him, she’s actually wearing Bruce’s mom’s pearl necklace speaks volumes about how they both left that life behind for good

    Some trivia on the movie:
The opening plane stunt is said to have been done completely practically, with no CGI.
It is the highest grossing Batman movie, with The Dark Knight behind it. Both grossed over $1 billion.
The Gotham Rogues football team is played by the real life fotball team Pittsburgh Steelers. Their stadium is also used.
Trump Tower is used for Wayne Enterprises.
Anne Hathaway's stunt double, driving a Batpod, crashed into an IMAX camera and destroyed it.

You'll notice that the exit of the prison resembles the well that Bruce fell into as a child. So Bruce is metaphorically finally climbing out of that well.
The prison chant was created by Batman fans who electronically submitted recordings of themselves reciting the chant, which were then layered and edited together by the production team to be included in the film.
The ending with Blake really wasn't meant to set up another movie. There were no plans for a fourth Christopher Nolan Batman movie. (Though Warner Bros. tried desperately for Nolan and Christian Bale to return for another movie, both of them declined.) Blake finding the Batcave and Gordon finding the repaired Bat Signal simply meant that the legacy of Batman would continue on after Bruce Wayne.

The things I thought were interesting that they did for this movie:
-they used the concept of the Lazarus Pit
-Bane broke the Bat like in "Knightfall"
-Batman came back after a long hiatus/ retiring and fought an enemy he wasn't prepared for and lost in round 1 but won in round 2, Like in the "Dark Knight Returns".
    - I also like that they did the thing from "The Dark Knight Returns" with the younger and older cop being witnessing the return of the Batman. That whole "You're in for show" thing.

Based on the comics and other media, Batman's war on crime would never end, it would always end with his death, or him being completely alone and defeated, or even in some stories Batman is willing to literally be dragged into Hell in order to defeat demonic enemies.
So I absolutely thought he was gonna die for sure in this movie, it was actually refreshing as a Batman fan to see the character chose to live and try to be happy, as Alfred wished for him.

50:05 Bane took the speech from Gordon at the beginning when he was captured while in the sewer. Tom Hardy is a shorter guy so I think in many scenes he's wearing lifts to stand over his co-stars, but physically yes he got that big for the role.
You mentioned suggestions of films with good villain studies, so here are mine, off the top of my head. Misery, Silence of the Lambs, Goodfellas, Die Hard, Face Off, Con Air, Robocop, No Country for Old Men, Django Unchained, Mad Max Fury Road, Gone Girl, Blade Runner, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Seven, The Batman, Tenet.
You watch anime, so honestly as far as DC goes, I would recommend giving the "DC Universe Animated Original Movies" a try. They're better than most of the "DCEU" stuff. Specifically in regards to Batman I would recommend the animated film adaptations of "The Dark Knight Returns" and "The Long Holloween." Both of these are based on graphic novels of the same name which have heavily influenced many of the live action Batman movies. They're both two-parter's and self-contained stories, so you don't need to have seen anything else beforehand. They're also very loyal to the source material. Last but not least I would recommend "Batman: Mask of the Phantasm" which is arguably the best Batman ever made.
    Enjoyed the reaction.

If you want villain recommendations, here are some of my favorites:
    Villian: Chayton Littlestone
    Actor: Geno Segers
    TV show: Banshee
The show had several great villains and you could enjoy studying many of them, but Chayton was by far my favorite villain. A Native American who is angered by what the white man did to his people. He sees the war against white oppression as already lost, and he only seeks to cause as much pain and destruction to the white man as his culture dies out to modern American ways. This a villain with true conviction and purpose. Segers brings an amazing intensity to the role. He's not prominent till season 3 though, but the rest of the show is worth a watch too.
    Villian: Tyler Durden
    Actor: Brad Pitt
    Movie: Fight Club
Tyler is a great example of the cult of personality. He is charismatic and persuasive. Its very interesting listening to his monologues and thinking about how he's gained followers. Brad Pitt was great. I don't want to reveal too much about this movie though, so I'll leave it at that.
    Villian: Colonel Hans Landa
    Actor: Christoph Waltz
    Movie: Inglorious Bastards
He plays a truly intelligent villain. He is terrifying because you are aware of how smart he is. Even when he is acting friendly, you're wondering what's going on under the charismatic mask. Even when he's being friendly, jovial, and acting oblivious, you are terrified he knows everything.

Back at the prison pit, that doctor guy said that Bane's breathing causes him pain due to either the beating he took or the disease that was rumming rampant in there, so yhe mask eases the pain, but it also eases any and all pain he receives, hence why no amount of damage slows him down. The ending scene can be interpreted in different ways. The auto-pilot was fixed, but that alone doesn't mean the Bat could/would escape the blast radius. The closing scene could just be Alfred envisioning in grief the life he'd always hoped Bruce would have.
The door was left open enough so as not to rule out another sequel, which seems weird given that Nolan had said from the beginning he'd only do a trilogy.

This was a great movie not only that but seeing everything thrown at Bruce all the obstacles he had to overcome.
Losing Alfred, all of his money/assets gone, being defeated by Bane, betrayed by Catwoman, having his back broken, overcoming the pit, and then being betrayed by Miranda with a knife that was gut wrenching.
Despite all of that Bruce Wayne came out on top and you know why because he's BATMAN!!
All those things happening at once would have been too much for a normal person for not Bruce Wayne because he's BATMAN!!.
And Tom Hardy's performance in this was absolutely incredible did a great job as Bane.
    And the soundtrack was awesome!

This movie is definitely underrated. The coolest thing is the difference between the Joker and Bane. Joker was the personification of chaos.. Bane, on the other hand, is a man with a plan.. And super loyal troops.

I like this film for the most part but I always hated how Gotham changes in each film. We went from a really solid Gotham City in Batman Begins that had a great tone and visual design with the narrows and the Art Deco style overhead train system built by Thomas Wayne running through Wayne Tower and Gotham City. To The Dark Knight where Gotham was stripped from all its personality for basically Chicago and then this film where Gotham is just New York and Pittsburghs. It just lacks so much personality in these films, same with Metropolis in Man of Steel. Idk what's with DC directors and struggling to make fictional cities unique instead of generic American looking dull cities.
The storyline is a mix of Knightfall where Bane broke Batman's back leading to a new Batman taking for a while until Bruce recovers combined with No Lands Land a storyline where Gotham suffers the results of a magnitude 7.6 earthquake. In response, the US government evacuates most of the civilian population, then declares Gotham a "no man's land", blowing up all the bridges to the Island and leaving Gotham to the Kingpins of crimes and villains. Each region of Gotham is controlled by different villains with many fighting for control wile the GCPD control some area with Batman and his Bat family helping out.
Also yeah the whole reveal at the end with "Robin" being the name of John Blake was a little odd for comic book fans. I personally can see Joseph Gordon-Levitt being a great older Robin like Dick Grayson and later becoming Nightwing but having his actual name be Robin is just not it for me. Robin is a title handed down through a number of people, plus I don't think Nolan would ever introduce a Robin anyways as his world is very "super duper grounded". Last time we've seen Robin in a Batman film was 1997's Batman & Robin but thankfully James Gunn's new DCU Batman film will feature all the Bat Family.

    Movies with the great villians:
Silence of the Lambs - The only horror film to win the Best Movie Academy Award along with Best Actor, Actress, Director, Picture, and Adapted Screenplay, one of only 3 films to do so.
The Usual Suspects- Doesn't have a classic "villian", but definitely has an antagonist. Won Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor, Kevin Spacey, from The Academy. The Writer's Guild also ranks it the 35th best screenplay of all time.

If you want to see great performance as villain: Over the top, extremely theaterical, amazing performance by Raoul Julia in Street Fighter (1994 ). Film itself its considered pretty bad, it has great cheesy moments but Raoul Julia's performance as villain has been rated greatly. Its been called greatest performance ever done in bad films. It was his final performance before dying in cancer, for the kids who loved Street Fighter games and you can see by his performance: Its his farewell performance for his kids.

In the Dark Knight The Joker says to Batman:
"You see, their morals, their code. It's all a bad joke. Dropped at the first sign of trouble. They're only as good as the world allows them to be. I'll show you, when the chips are down... These "civilized people", they'll eat each other. See, I'm not a monster, I'm just ahead of the curve"
And in this movie Bane proves just how right Joker was. Insight a little chaos and see how much people lose their minds

Batman has the best villains because every villain in Batman's Rogues' Gallery is a inverted version of Batman. They're not just criminals, like Batman, they are seriously psychologically damaged.

    • @jflaugher
      @jflaugher Год назад +1

@@Cream-2128 Yeah, but Deathstroke is more of a Titans/Nightwing villain, or at least I always felt that way. There's crossover into Batman, of course - because it's the same DC Universe and the same Bat-family, but Batman and his Rogues (at least most of them - maybe all) are based on Jungian archetypes and depict abnormal psychologies. Batman himself is the Jungian "shadow-self," and the man behind the mask, Bruce Wayne, is incredibly psychologically damaged. Anyone who, as a result of the trauma of seeing his parents murdered and then grows up to become a vigilante who goes out night after night just so he can beat criminals to a pulp with his bare hands in order to symbolically avenge those murders is not a mentally healthy person.

Noticed something this viewing. Curious editing choice in movie. It would make more sense if the mayor's room got blown up before the football field. Instead, the field is exploding, an extremely unusual sight, all while the mayor's casually viewing the kickoff run like nothing's happening. Then he go boom.
    Can't unsee that now.

Tom Hardy got jacked to play Bane, and it was a fast transformation. He hit the weights to build muscle, but his diet was straight up dirty bulk. Tom said he ate an ungodly amount of pizza, burgers, and other high-calorie junk food to put on the most size he could as fast as he could. He said he ate so much he felt like garbage for most of the production and didn't like being that size and hated how maintaining his Bane physique made him feel mentally.
Dirty bulking to build muscle isn't advisable, or desirable. I tried it once, and while the muscle gains were noticeable, my stomach and my mind hated me for it. It makes you feel stopped up and sad after you stick with it for a few weeks. Dirty bulking is something only bodybuilders or powerlifters should be doing, and even then, done under a strict regime.
