I actually think it's clever how the Hoshido's are the ones who do all the insults and demonizing, yet the Nohr's rarely do the same. Yes, they are the peaceful kingdom, but they would probably choose to wipe out Nohr "in the name of peace" if they got the chance.

Which one? Because Nohr is technically your true family considering they're the ones who raised you despite not being blood related. You're not blood related to any of the Hoshidan siblings (revealed in the siblings S-Supports) and they're practically strangers to Corrin.

So what happens if you don't have the other game? Does the choice stay but is grayed out or do you not have the scene at all?

I would never join Nohr after what their king has done to Hoshido. Sorry but i've chosen to fight with Hoshido even though it was painful to part with the people who took care of me at the fortress.
Hopefully Revelations will help you understand what happened in that chapter.
I'd pick Nohr because I dont want Laslow nor (no pun intended) Xander to die.
