- In a 2018 paper, at least 125 food assistance groups were identified in Singapore. Yet, there are folks in need who still get infrequent or no food support at all - while many elderly beneficiaries receive too much, and sometimes, food aid that's not suitable.

Can i just mention how sick and trashy it is that some of the donated canned/bottled food products to The Food Bank are expired and half-used? It disgusts me that they would even think of donating such items to the needy. It's not a dumping ground?? How low can you get?! 🤦♀️
Same for clothing. Some arseholes donated clothes that are not washed! Even used panties! And when NGO remind them that they are not dumping ground these aresholes called them ungrateful!

These two reports were really great at concisely highlighting the challenges of food insecurity in Singapore to those of us that may not be aware. I'm very confident that if any country could resolve these issues to the greatest degree, it would be Singapore. Great work.
@@NewmaticKe It was an interesting read, thanks for sharing. SG scored the best globally at 87.4; assuming that the index was based out of 100 points. If can collectively harness SG's kiasu nature to improve it further I'm sure can be even better!

love the vending machine ideas, giving the who are in need - convenance & freedom in choices, is uplifting rather than shameful
Honestly I'm so proud of this pple who come forward to help with a big heart not just for the sake of helping but really think through about it! Especially for Elderly
I don't see much fruits being given alongside free cooked foods. Fruits are a great source of vitamins and minerals to balance out the meals. It is also healthier snacks than sugar laden biscuits
but it rots in 3-5days
plus most of the elderly have diabetes, they cant be eating most fruits with sugar.
basically garbage processed food and full of refined sugar. Possible consider simple whole foods like meat, fish, vegetables and sweet potatoes?
Brian Chia yes what you say is true but if you think again fresh fruit and vegetables are very expensive
@TravelerPat Only viable for the younger ones. Elderly wont know how to do online orders or use mobile apps. Will end up going back to conventional ways. Doing up a list of items and foods for the people in need to choose from is more practical like what one of the beneficiaries in the video is doing.
Ok this is pretty relevant.. I work in a food processing plant at the western part of Singapore. During the early days when I've been working there, I was really bothered about the "wastages" that being the processed food that still are edible but didn't "look too nice" . I made an off hand comment that insead of throwing it away, we should donate it...
My manager looked at me in disgust.. and this is the lesson that I've brought with me till this day.. he said "if you really have the heart.. you won't be giving low quality stuff to the people in need. They are people just like you and me.. we don't give them the trash we throw out! Wan't to give, we give them the dignity of the products that we are willing to sell" I was humbled by that statement all those years ago
then donate to animals , they wouldn't mind. better than wasting food.
Singaporeans are so fortunate. Good Government and good Samaritans.
Maybe we should create a group that collects information for these volunteering organisations. Information is the key to better distribute across the population.
Lucky to stay in Singapore, give with a heart. Thank you for working so hard with so much consideration.
If you are not elderly, an invalid or suffering from a critical illness you have no right to welfare aid or any sort of help. You should be at least self sufficient by getting employment and not be a recipient of any food handouts or donations. By depriving the needy who are deserving of the food and necessities of life all layabouts and human parasites undermine society and bring shame to the country. If one is an able bodied person, earns a fair salary in Singapore but is still unable to shelter, feed and clothe ones family due to circumstances beyond ones control, then the family deserves some aid. On the other hand there are also those who are earning a GOOD salary but indulges in gambling and vice to satisfy their own selfish wants that they caused the family to depend on welfare and donations. This last class of welfare seekers is becoming prevalent in newly developed countries where self indulgence becomes a way of life for the affluent and the unsuccessful wannabes!
Then again a lot of times when people ask for a donation, they do not specifically say who is those food being donated to. Especially when schools do charity drives, they simply say that they are looking for food, essentials, etc. and as a donator how would you know who is receiving what. So is it right to say that people donate food that is not suitable for the elderly?
But normally they will state the beneficiary organizations like e.g. Children's cancer foundation or (inserts name) old folks home...?
@@crystal8537 Not really, most of the time when people come knocking on doors they simply say "Hi, we are doing a donation drive. Do you have anything books, food, essentials, etc." or if they give beforehand is just a green bag stating when is the collection. As a donator, I'll just dump anything that I deem fit that can still be used inside. So that itself becomes a problem for the people who have to sort through it and is it really the donator's fault that they do not donate the correct things? At the ending of the video, the lady said that we should donate what our kids like for other kids. What if my kid only loves eating apples, do I donate apples? Or if my kid only loves eating canned pineapples, do I donate that? See, that itself in a sentence can cause several problems due to many people have different preferences.
@@Ranger629 Thank you, I'm glad someone said it.
@@Ranger629 Agreed that knowing the beneficiaries helps donators to give better suited goods tho some of the organizations probably didn't specify as the goods could be going to a range of groups. The collection drives I encountered did specify recipients. The woman in all likelihood mean it in a general sense. Rationally we know to over-ride the taking it literally part.
my wife is a social worker, and she is all the time receiving "donated food" from the old folks she is helping. really, all the poor people really have too much food. and usually receving multiple food sources don't happened, becuase she usually has to coordinate with many other agencies who also provide simultaneous care.
Yes, have been a volunteer myself too. And this is very true. Especially for elderlys in rental flats. Sometimes, they rather have lesser of such cans.
I think giving out food vouchers is a fantastic idea...I second that thought...
@@AsherHoe Food and grocery vouchers. Let them choose what and where they want eat. Problem solved.
Only arrange logistics of meal deliveries to the ones who cannot get out of their house due to severe health conditions. For old folks who are still mobile, it's actually much better if they can go out to get their own food as they need a little exercise and Vitamin D too.
Generally like how concise the analysis has been so far, although there's a clear bias in showing the singapore government in a good light. Appreciate what volunteer switch has done in taking in clear feedback from their beneficiaries, and adjusting accordingly, and the other vwo that allows beneficiaries to choose what items they prefer. Humans have dignity and humans have preference and I believe we should respect them as such, instead of assuming just because one is poor, they should not be allowed to choose what to eat or what not to eat - whats more, those with medical conditions are unable to eat the food that a normal person may be able to eat. Has there been any consideration to consolidate all the different ground up initiatives and they're efforts? I'm sure we can at least keep track of the ones that have already been here for awhile and are planning to be here for a long time. that will allow for better allocation of resources, and maybe it'll be easier for people to volunteer as well.
The Singapore Government and its sister organs need to spend more effort into lifting the underprivilege, offering them stable long-term jobs - not cleaning but basic clerical jobs - as part of a nationwide CSR campaign. Handing out ration stickers and stamps can only do so much as seen in the above video but empowering the poor with better employment opportunities (starting with the head of household), alternative access to education (including free tuition, financial education) and perhaps, free cleaning services to individual homes provided by Town Councils would be justifiable to those who pay real taxes to this state.
The vending machine idea allowing beneficiaries to purchase food of their choice using a card and the idea of linking up with deliveroo are BRILLIANT. COME ON SINGAPORE, WE CAN DO BETTER TO CLOSE UP THE GAP BETWEEN FOOD INSECURITY AND FOOD WASTAGE.
I'm so darn impressed with the vending machine thingy. Soooooo impressed. And the collaboration between the organizations and the changes made are very impressive as well. Feels great to call myself a Singaporean! :D
The elderly should share the canned goods or snacks he/she can't eat to his/her neighbor instead of piling all up at the house and letting it expired and go to waste. Sharing is caring. Share to your neighbors.
gretchen santos yeah just give it away
when he said "I'll throw it away". What the heck man
@raven scott at least he can write something to let people know
The Social worker can ask him if he doesn't want them, she will take them away for community kitchen.
gretchen santos Exactly! I am sure that the younger folks don't get so much assistance. It's a sin to make food waste. More youth would be willing to help them if they would just bless them with some of the food they have received. They can give to the many hungry kids they meet on their way back home. Being kind and sharing will never go out of fashion.
Great Insight and an eye opener. I am now more aware of what kind of foods I can donate that will be actually useful to the elderly. Its inspiring to see that organisations have come together to address the food insecurity as well as the food wastage.
Wow this is a good watch, keep it up cna!!!
I've been loving this insight documentary
While I understand that some people have needs (i.e. no teeth) to be met and a be given choice to choose (i.e. not eating certain types of canned food), it's the self-entitled people that are a put off. Not taking the milk unless it's premium. Say what. Some food charities are trying to accommodate, beneficiaries cannot be this self entitled.
Indeed. Beggars cant be choosers!
@DBR Liamg while I agree with what you said, my point still stands about self entitlement. Beneficiaries need to understand that some food charities do not have a stable food source and by this I mean milk from brand xxx. Nutrition is definitely important because it'll be counterproductive if they get sick from all the canned/ processed food.
just stop giving those fussy eaters some freebies n let them die. more space for younger pople to live considering how dense the population there.
oneng kusumah excuse me? Who liked this comment. Disgusting mindset and a poor excuse of a human being
That's what I thought too. Also saying that the canned foods are too much the same, or that she has Diabetes and cannot eat the fruit; why not just take them back or donate them to someone else?
I understand that the elderlies in this video are in very difficult positions, but has anyone ever sympathized with the volunteer workers? Even though some elderlies have genuinely concerns and certain food needs to be avoided. But let's be real, there are gonna be a picky choosers, and a whole lot of them.
Those volunteers are already going the extra mile for the logistic of collecting and distributing food. Imagine getting complaints that food are too bland, too similar etc. And possibly 20 over different request because the food is unsuitable for them.
The elder lady complains about the baked beans and campbell soup, saying that they're not suitable for her taste. Now imagine those people in the 1st part of this series. I believe those kids will be very happy to receive some of these, because they literally have almost nothing. They didn't even have the choice to choose. Now even though in this video we can see how the journalist is trying to sympathize with the elderly, we can clearly see that quite a few of them are indeed choosers.
All these charitable societies have done a great job by providing fresh & dry/preserved food for free, almost to the conveniences of the elderly. At this point, i don't know what constructive and objection suggestions can be made to improve the lives of these old folks, because the message that i'm getting from this video is not just that the food are unsuitable for them, but there are many picky choosers too.
The thing is... canned foods have too much sodium in them, and recent studies have proven that aside from being idle, malnutrition and prescription meds play bigger role in causing senility than age...
Give them UBI, let em buy their own produce
Food suited for their age, the woman said the canned food she doesn't know how to eat it, because as commented by the other lady later, there is no open lid and the woman doesn't have a can opener. So she doesn't know how to prepare the soup or to open and you gave her a good she can't consume for health issue. Sure they are doing a great job in the logistic, but at same time not because in the logistic also takes part the choosing of which food is suitable and which is not and how to save each kind of food according to it's consume conditions. There where bugs and some are rotten.... It's cool feed people, but doesn't matter if you give them food they can't consume is same as nothing.
Canned food is very unhealthy. The feedback they give is important to improving the situation, sure they work hard but at the same time there’s clearly a lot of inefficiencies.
Highlighting the current problems of the system doesnt mean one does not approve of the system, it just means that heres some ideas for improvement. Poor people are not a dumping ground for bad and unhealthy food. They deserve a decent and healthy meal too and suggesting that they are 'choosers' for wanting to have a healthy meal is just a disgusting attitude to have towards others well-being.
I may not live in Singapore 🇸🇬 but this story is the same here in the states. Thanks to those who are apart of this because this applies all over the world.
Not in Malaysia!
I'm in the states too, and get food from donations.
I honestly throw away about half of what I get.
Some people just do not deserve the benefits. Those that are fussy over what are given becos of individual preferences instead of quality like freshness etc should be banned from receiving it. Yes beggar cant be chooser. Not that they really treat you like beggar but people are trying their best to make sure you don't go hungry, if you see your living standard shd be higher and food given shd be premium, then please leave these to others that would appreciate it. You can slowly wait for what suit you best instead of wasting food. These ppl are too spoilt.
Lol... Sorry dont mean to b rude but i guess u have taken my words out of context. I am obviously talking about whats in the video and in singapore. We dont eat bugs as protein. And you can see from THE VIDEO beans are not the only dish. Not sure where u r from, mayb ur country's charity gives bugs as protein for meals, but to what i know, charity gives what local ppl eats. If bugs is a common food for locals (like everyone eat that) but yet your personal preference is chicken, then i guess its not the charity fault right? Just like in Singapore everyone eats chicken rice but u want bees noodle, thats what i mean by spoilt. Anyway, that not the point. The point is, i am talking about whats in the video and those ppl that are not deserving are those that wants to choose what fits their taste buds and unappreciative towards food prepared to ensure they dont go hungry.
Wherever u r from, i wish u get ur 3meals a day without bugs. Stay safe!
philomena phanthagia she didnt say beggars should eat rotten and spoiled food. she just stated that when you can eat it, dont be choosy. as for the uncle with diabetes and no teeth, it is a special case. can't give high sugar content to someone diabetic unless you want them to rest well earlier
God bless those volunteers and organisations who have a heart for the less fortunate. May they themselves and their families be blessed. Heaven got eyes.
It's actually comforting to know that there's so much help offered to those in need. To be honest, free food shouldn't be luxurious, or people will rely on them. Those who are privileged enough to be picky should reject the food so the food can go to those who really need them.

I feel like a total idiot. My school asked us to bring some stuff to make the CNY Hamper to give to the elderly staying near my school. Some of my friends brought canned food.I did not realise that the elderly may not have the strength to open up the canned food.
@Soen Seng Thio thats why im glad they made this video to spread more awareness. Also my sch brought me to willing hearts last year to pack the food.I tot they had enough volunteers.I plan to go volunteer after my o lvld
@Soen Seng Thio But again, they always say to bring food which can be stored for longer, so canned food seems to be the wise choice. Sure, people could bring fresh vegetables or fruits, or maybe even some fancy dishes but the food would have to be distributed immediately and that is almost never an option.
@@kertelas4272 canned foods are beneficial but if canned foods are the only things being donated it will be saturated, and not meet many other people's need (like people who cant open the can themselves for reason stated).
@@kertelas4272
well if you eliminate canned food, you only left with biscuits, coffee and frozen food since fresh food are not allowed but frozen food is a bit of problem since you can't guarantee the food is frozen the whole time even if it's placed in chiller bag so basically you are just left with biscuit and coffee only (and considering some elderly can't take biscuit due to diabetes/lack of teeths and such)

Lord once again I'm very much thankful for the chance of opportunity to work to eat and to support my family. With this video I take it as moral lesson not to take for granted all the things given to me. Please guide me and my family for more obstacles I may be facing in the future that I surely know I will come and conquer. Amen
There are so many gizmos now to help open cans. There are pop top openers, jar openers, twist openers and the list goes on. Small cheap blenders would help with fruit or meat for those with no teeth. Soak the crackers in milk, juice, soup or broth to soften. Teaching recipients how to open cans, soften food and blend to make mechanical soft foods would help. When I hurt my wrists I could not open cans, tops, etc. So I got several cheap tools off the internet to help me. One woman I met had about 10 openers of various kinds that she showed me due to arthritis.
I think it depends on volunteers and managing their time while distributing food. Overall, I agree with your idea.
This didn’t make sense, a can opener or a similar device doesn’t cost that much vs all the waste being produced.
Wait I'm confused. Why does uncle Ho go to the charity kitchen when he could just wait for the meal on wheels?
maybe he does not like the taste of the food given by the meal on wheels?
Rome Masancay choosy? then need to let go one of those. 2 packets might be given to someone who needs it more.
meal on wheels comes at four i think? so uncle ho might not be patient enough to wait
They each only give 2 meals and usually you eat 3 meals a day so he goes to 2 locations to get a total of 4 meals
Maybe in case he's unable to eat what is given by one, or can only eat a portion of it bcuz it's either not soft enough or dirty/ old unsuitable for him to eat... Then he can pick thru and eat enough to equal a meal..?
Excellent report especially about expired date. One late evening in a posh neighbourhood in Singapore, I was eyeing a nice piece of cake on a window cake shop but could not purchase it as the shop was closed. Next moment the shop assistant collect all the pies and cake and throw it in a black bag for disposal. 8 years later I am still thinking about that nice piece of cake, what a waste!
This volunteers are the real MP.. they have a good heart to think of others and the best part.. not being paid a single cent for their time and effort even if they are being paid.. dont think it justifies for their contribution. Pls have a thought for all those suffering and in the coming election be prudent and vote wisely. This is for all old and new Singaporeans.

Disqualified, rents in open market.
Once again, poor.
Blame those who abused the system and caused the system became stringent.
Similar to PMD. Who caused the ban?
@@Jack-hy2ki Similar, but definitely ain't the same.
The existence of income cap is to ensure that there is sufficient supply to meet those in need.
Like all policies, such measure is efficient but not truly effective in identifying those in need. Moreover, it encourages households, with a few exceptions, to stay within the cap.
Nonetheless, HDB do assess one's needs on a case-by-case basis.
"In general, your total household gross income should not exceed $1,500 per month. If your monthly household income is more than $1,500, you can still submit an application. We will review your application, taking into consideration whether you have other housing options."
Ultimately, this is a complex issue that requires further thoughts.

I still remember my friends who are from unfortunate family get free meals at school but middle class backgrounds like me have to eat my friends leftover because don't have enough money to buy foods.. Its really a valuable experience
For poor people, it is identifying that they need help. But when middle class got broke especially during Covid-19 pandemic, they lost their business or income so long, they have been suffering but they could not get any help coz their pride and they have tried to survive and helped themselves and no begging.
This 2nd part of the video series address the elephant in the room. All the donation people gave always goes to the same few people, result to wastage of so many donated canned food. Those living in bigger accommodation or earn slightly more are considered well off are receiving little to no help. I hope all these non-profit organizations realise there are poor in 3 rm or even 4 rm flat too.
Then the other issue is I still see people complaining the poor have decent size TV or children are playing with phone or tablet. Really? Only the rich entitled to a TV or a phone? TV are pretty affordable nowadays as long as they are not 4K or has special feature. People need to realise not all phones are iPhone, there are affordable Redmi phones too. iPad their children are using might be older generation, which has little or no value nowadays. The money saved on buying these electronics will not enough for them to eat for a month outside.
J.C. Yes exactly
Thanks for the great great 2 part series that touches all of our hearts - food. Also thank you for including the links to the website of all the voluntary groups you mentioned. Gonna check them up and sign up as a volunteer (:
I have a very good idea for this!
They can make 1 check list at the foot of the door: indicates their disabilities and incapabilities (eg no teeth or diabetic) then that way they can ration out the proper food.
Then they can also indicate what other food donations they have as well.
I also like the weekly house cleaning, it's such that there won't be alot of mess. It's even better that there are volunteers.
Without Choices, so much food is thrown away. I'm Diabetic and I cannot eat half of what they give me here in Australia. We should be able to choose what we want.
Give them a basket. Let them take the food they want. Then there will not be any food waste.

Same in America in some locations. It's because organizations that order meal services for disabled or seniors do not seem to have a data base listing other agencies that also are providing services for food or other assistance, unless it comes from the state. Local churches, community food banks, homeowners associations, city governments and small volunteer groups don't have a clue as to what the person is already getting or is eligible for. And the recipient often will lie or omit information when asked, as they don't want to lose any services, even though they give food away. There should be food drives that will pick up donations of canned foods left over from this kind of thing. I visited a man who had a storeroom filled with food, but he was telling people he had no food. I took him a bag of groceries out of my own pocket, as did the nurse. He was not appreciative, as it was "real" fruits, vegetables, bread, lunchmeat, etc. On my way out, I looked behind the door that led to an undisclosed storeroom. I asked him why he said he had no food (there was enough for him and the entire street for a year). He said, "That's not food. That's for emergencies." I got so angry, but couldn't show it.
This is so good please come out more videos like this it creates awareness

Nutrition education is so important. Know what to eat should start from young. And parents should be educated what to feed to their children.
Imagine every country being like this towards their poor and needy, there literally wouldn't be any starvation and famine. I admire Singapore ❤
In my country you wait in the waiting room & get whats given, it's a pleasure to say thank you 🙂
Since this people are WASTING FOOD! Do not give them anymore. Lazy until the fridge never tidy! This is not poor but pure LAZINESS! Ignorantly they didn’t know the meaning of kindness as they take it for granted
For the senior basicly they don't know what kind of can food they are getting is not their regular food they used to have thats y.
Some say the free food is too bland. But if the kitchen cater to her request, then it will be too salty for some other people, especially many elderly have hypertension diabetes etc
very impressed with FFA.S Nizar.s initiative with the packet food 👍👍👍
Donating food to the needy and dumping food to the needy are 2 different things
I’ve heard from friends that some cook food delivery taste horrible. I don’t think anyone expects Michelin award food , however it’s just a suggestion that maybe the cooks can get together and plan new menu for “regular food “they receive once a month.iIt will be helpful to them when they receive the items from the donations. Perhaps that will help them cook easier and surely it will make the recipients will enjoy the food better.
Good to know more true realities in S'pore !!!
When I was homeless I remember well being given fresh milk and when I asked them to please keep the 2 gallons they took all my food for being ungrateful I was being honest and thinking someone else with access to refridgerator would have beter use for those gallons. I had to walk 12 miles in Florida during summer and had no cooling method. The milk would have gone bad very quickly and would ahve been impossible for me to carry with the other caned items. I thought I was being honest to not take what I could not use but I never made that mistake again. From then on I took what was given and if I couldnt find another to take it later I would dump it...which made me sad but I had to. I wasnt asking for extra I was asking to not get something for the rubbish bin.. It is one thing for people to expect better meals than they could afford on a living wage but quite another to think everything goes. Dont be too fussy or demanding but no one should take offense if asked to not include something
Why dump it tho? Why not give it to homeless people instead?
Teach Your Kids NEVER Waste Your Foods.
UK food bank got little wastage because Demand > Supply.
The lady who get tired of free food, mix & match & re-cook yourself. Exchange with neighbors! You can still help someone when you are older & poor. (Christian, Buddhist, Muslim teach these same things!)
It is difficult to please all...a church I know was offering free lunch everyday...can you imagine when the people receiving complain the food is NOT up to his taste...This is where Vivien's Hawker Center-Foodcourt or Restaurant rings TRUE not that I agree when he said that on the increase of financial help to the NEEDY!!!
They should stop doing that and just let them die. More space for younger people to live and probably better environment too. Why waste your time helping ungrateful people.

@@PP-vf1kx I agree with what you said - some of them were so choosy
Same. Even some of them call their frens if someone donated nicer food to eat that day and some became greedy and stayed over for lunch. By right we can't chase them. If they knew the food that day sucks straight away the numbers drop.
This video highlights how the food system is broken not only in Singapore but in a lot of countries. There is more than enough food being produced in the world but consistent access to the right food is what is driving food poverty.
It's a typical problem, the people who are in social systems will be well serviced or over serviced by the local resources. Then the hidden food poverty, people in private renting who do not recieve any publicly funded support are very vulnerable. I really wish I knew what the solution could be, but one basic step is sharing the information across charity groups and in community functions. Like a PSA, so people can approach when they want to.
I once bought a homeless person in London a KFC Zinger meal, he declined because he said he was vegan!
🤣💀
Bruh...
I know right! I bought sushi for a homeless he spits it out and say worst food ever. Ugh! Another one is i got him chocolate milk he said he dont like chocolate. How true are these homeless these day? When im down to nothing i dont choose at all!
So because he is homeless he isn’t allowed to have dietary requirements? What if he was a diabetic and could not eat the meal you have bought because of that? Would that make you feel better?
They are allowed to have a choice! Rather than buying food that YOU think they would want, ask what they would want. Many times I find that the homeless really want some fresh fruit or a salad. One time a homeless man said to me “ miss, I don’t want any food but would really like to be able to have a shower, brush my teeth etc”
So I sorted him out at a public shower ( you have to pay like $1 for 15 min use along with a towel and some cosmetics. ) The total cost of that is around the same as what I would have spent on a McDonald’s meal on him.
Many good intentions but lack of coordination from donors. Temple gives, Church gives, welfare organisation gives, etc. Duplicates and wastage.
This report informs, touches the heart and gives hope all in one go. I find the report very well written and well produced. More power to you!
Instead of giving them packs of goods I think it is better to put up a community pantry wherein they will only get what they want/need so nothing will go to waste and more people will benefit.
Hungry ppl would eat anything. Some ppl start become choosy when having too many, some genuinely because of their condition (having no teeth, etc)
Filling an empty stomach is one just issue, it is still important to provide healthy food or there will be issues in long term too.
The teachers and principals always say "got all this still complaint so much , dont know how to appreciate"
I used to live there a while, I love the old Singaporeans, they are friendly and helpful to me. The life is harsh in that beautiful city.
old people were cranky and unhappy, they treated you like you own them your life
I miss Singapore. Hope everyone there safe this pandemic.
God bless all these lovely caring people ❤
Some cities in the USA have a central clearing house for charities. The needy apply once at the central and are given vouchers good for services at the member organizations.
I know they have too much food given to them but they could pass what they don’t want on they could be shown how to eat the food they don’t know I honestly think it’s a wonderful thing what people do to make sure they don’t go hungry it just needs updating so they get what is needed and then there is extra to help others
really doing the great job... hope this kind of sincere things will be happen in the whole world... not only in sgp only... thanks for sharing the kind and love video...
The solutions suggested is better than I would have suggested
All my applause 👏 is on presenter love 💘 ❤ 👏 💕
No point in giving without much thoughts to who is receiving. Most people just want to look gd for giving.
It's true that beggars can not be choosers and hunger is the best teacher. But in this day and age, it's curious why information technology is not applied to manage this supply/demand logistic problem? Solves the ad hoc problem, expiry problem, meal matching, and special needs flagging.
Yea, if Esther really don't like the food, then she should indeed simply not go rather than complain about the free food. But overall, the situation seems as I expect of a very wealthy country. More of excessive help, rather than insufficient help.
I like the part of letting the pple go to pick what they want. Alot of efforts have been taken by the charities... very good ideas for the vending machines n delivery by Deliveroo
No matter how poor you are in Singapore you will not starve. There is always a helping hand even if you are sick.
Those who are really in need have little and those who need less have plenty, unfortunately inappropriate, imbalance distribution of food....
Well done Singapore and Sinagporeans ..... Great example to the world. Keep it up
I enjoy your show very much. It's very educational.
All these should be government jobs so that these kind people have a stable jobs and can solely focus on elderly and disabled 👍💪💯 Majulah Singapura, Majulah ASEAN
Thanks for raising the concern I have for food ration from charitable organization via this video. Charitable vs consideration should be weighed! What is the choice? What is life? What is charity? When the beneficiary is not benefited at all but contribute to more waste and waste of money.
Great work by the groups involved. Smart country.
This is the problem when some elderly took 2 to 3 shares of food from different organisation each day. Volunteered during the Covid Days...some lied to get more food, pretty do not care about food wastage. Some even demand fresh soup to them timely at 5.30pm etc....
Some rental flats have live-in maids to care for the elderly. I encountered once this elderly demands free daily cooked food should be given to her maid, and Sister (who lived nearby - not poor, who is mobile and quite fit).
One has a sister who lived in a big bungalow with a car (ferrrari) but cannot take care of her sister.. So her sister received financial payout, food and almost free electricity bill, in a rental flat.
The government should have a integrated system where whoever giving out food, should check if that household has received any help.
They should have donation tickets instead where the elderly and needy younger ones can choose which food is suitable for them
Good points. Indeed should try not to duplicate the efforts of giving and end up it still becomes wastage... jia you Singapore, let’s communicate! 🇸🇬 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Idk but please be kinder to the elderly. I feel like it's a basic right for them to at least be able to choose? If you do not want to donate, then just don't. Don't justify it by saying that you hate donating to "this kind of people". Right now, you do not understand them because we are very privileged. Put yourselves into their shoes
The vending machine idea would work as they take only what they need or prefer...as well as provide refrigeration
We need Marie Kondo for this! Lol. Probably categorise the type of people who need free food:
1) Those who are ambulant (offer fresh produce)
2) Those who are not so ambulant (offer fresh produce and/or quality meal delivery)
3) Those who are not ambulant (offer quality meal delivery)
4) Those who cook (offer fresh produce)
5) Those who cook simply (offer fresh produce and/or quality meal delivery)
6) Those who are unable to cook (offer quality meal delivery)
7) Those with medical condition/ religion/ elder on soft diet (offer fresh produce and/or quality meal delivery but restrict according to need)
If there is no compassion among the wealthy residents, whether you are first world or third world food paradise won't make any difference. Feeding the hungry and helping the poor require a compassionate population or a caring government that believe it is an obligation , not a burden for them.
Such a meaningful series
