I'm so disgusted with these corrupt politicians. However, I'm proud of the citizens for standing up!
These are business owners and not the citizens of Harvey. If you have been to Harvey and have known about Harvey's history you would know that corruption, crime, abandoned properties, etc. have been going on for decades. They're turning these suburbs into a soap opera to get media attention.
They should not have voted Democrat...putting people in office because of race or sex or lack of religion has consequences

I'm not a lawyer, but it would seem to me requiring a church to get a license, which is basically a permit, most likely violates the freedom of religion under the constitution. Doing this would make us China where churches have to get government permission to operate, and I believe the constitution would strictly prohibit this, and open this Mayor and the Village up to civil liability.

They can be shown the door when they want to talk about something different than what's being discussed or continue to talk after their allotted time has expired. They also can have people removed for using abusive language.

How did it get to this point? Is this city in debt? Who can investigate? I think there is something else going on here and the mayor is involved. These businesses are being levied so that real estate and corporations can "save the day" 🤔
These businesses signed contracts to pay "x" amount of taxes, and property costs, when they first opened.
They may have had some difficult times, due to the "covid" thing, and signed off on a new "payment plan".
However, some of these businesses being closed down will not offer them any income...that they are using to pay the city....so, they will close down and leave, and only pay the money that they owe as they want to.
Which will also keep those properties closed for the duration of the contract, because no new businesses will be allowed to move in - due to contractual obligations between the businesses and the city (if they are paying taxes - or being charged for actually being tenants on those properties - their "space" is technically "occupied").
This is a lose-lose situation for the city.
No one will be taking a business chance with the city now....nor do the old businesses want to keep doing business with the city.

Because the courts have ruled that police departments can legally discriminate in hiring based on intelligence because the more intelligence a person possesses, the more likely they are to realize an order is unlawful/unconstitutional and to question or refuse those orders. Also that police officers don’t have to understand the laws they are employed to enforce. Most police end up just being the goon squad for whatever corrupt mayor just happens to be in office.

Honestly I have zero sympathy for the churches. It's a measly $700. They don't pay property taxes so they get free fire and police protection and other city services. They do not contribute to the upkeep of the roads either. But most of these churches have pastors who live very large.

Churches should have already been paying taxes, and no need to manhandle the citizens like that because you don't like what they have right to say regarding the municipality.
Churches are Tax Exempt on local, state and national level. They can be charged a Special Assessment such as street repair.

Once the city rescinded the business license of autoshops, restaurants, & coffee shops, such businesses definitely won’t be able to pay the property taxes. Right?
