Seeing all the references to the N64 game in the comments is just satisfying. It shows how close GoldenEye is to the hearts of many gamers including myself. I loved the movie and the game growing up. Also, I always used to think that the scientist dude that 006 killed was Dr. Doak.

@@cameronturk4388 you have the exact same favorite Bond films that I have. That's wild lol. I've seen them all though, my dad is a super fan so i got introduced to the series way before the N64 game dropped. There's some decent movies in the series, and some not so much. Most of the ones I didn't care too much for were Roger Moore era.
I think the setup with Trevelyan supposedly being killed wasn't just to cover up his involvement with Janus - it was also a test for Bond. If Bond surrendered for Trevelyan's life, Trevelyan would have seen that Bond was more loyal to his friends than the mission, and would have let him in on the secret. Since Bond allowed Trevelyan to be "killed", this confirmed to Trevelyan that Bond couldn't be trusted, and needed to be eliminated.
I doubt it. Being loyal to 006 in that moment meant completing the mission , he literally told him to. if alec had begged for his life you might have has a point
Bond was walking towards Ouramov with with his hands in the air. I do not know what else he could have done to communicate his unconditional surrender to both Ouramov and Trevelyan.
He understands that they need to finish the job so he reduces the timer to 3 minutes, not nearly enough time to free Alec and escape. You can tell what is going through his mind for the brief pause after he reduces the timer and drops the AK. I see it as he has assessed the current situation with the expectancy that they would both be captured or executed so takes the actions to assure that the mission is completed, even at the cost of both of their lives. Ourumov's fast count and "execution" probably surprised Bond so he retreated to buy time. Bond being resourceful, notices the canister trolley goes for it and it pays dividends.
Ouromov could have also tried to kill James while chasing the plane by firing and getting a lucky shot, but he just kept ordering his men to hold their fire and smile as he escapes. It was never about not shooting the canisters, Ouromov needed James alive to report Alec's death, otherwise there would be no point in faking his death
He likely grew up in the Stalin Era, back then the slightest mistakes could get one's entire family executed along with themselves. So he likely learned from that. Not to mention, they're in a room full of VERY toxic, VERY flammable, VERY EXPLOSIVE chemical filled tanks... One goes off the rest will quickly follow and if the rest go EVERYBODY THERE goes. It's not exactly unreasonable from the rest of them's perspectives.
It was a brilliant intro. The anticipation. And fact that the introductory scenes set the whole tone of the movie throughout. You were able to see how many transportation shifted in a couple of minutes, they just try to compact it as much as it would so you get the idea it's full of surprises
I'd just like to point out the use of music in this clip. The quiet, almost ambient music when the two 00s are sneaking around which then turns intense when the alarm goes off which then turns even more intense when the Colonel Orumov walks in, only cut by a dense silence when 006 is captured and 007 seemingly surrounded that then intensifies once again when 007 escapes before almost fading out for the intense airplane takeover. Excellent use of soundtrack, 10/10.
Every time I see the beginning when Bond sneaks into the main part of the building I am amazed how really accurate and the attention to detail the level is in GoldenEye 64.
@@treatwomenright33 Especially for the time. The amount of stuff they were able to recreate with a decent level of accuracy is still impressive today. Facility is just spot on!
Yeah. I played countless hours of it on N64, and still have both console and cartridge to this day. Btw, there's also a Goldeneye game for PS3, which is also really cool.
This movie is incredible in the way that it introduces the main characters. From Bond's jump from the dam, Alec's emergence from the shadows, Orumov strolling in like a badass with the music in crecendo, Xenia's race with Bond, Boris' hacking skills and humor, Wade, Zukovsky, etc. Its all just fun to watch them all.
The team on N64 did a great job using the same physical layout in the Facility mission. The only thing different was sneaking under the floor. Other than that, it's very easy to tell what area of the mission they're in at all times.
My five cents: There's a tunnel inside the dam that goes through the mountain. The factory is is on the other side of the mountain. Since the tunnel is near the bottom of the dam, bungee jumping was the fastest way to it.

Best opening scene in a Bond movie IMO. It’s such a gritty and explosive start with the perfect balance of action, suspense and humour. This was also the first Bond I watched and I’ve never grown tired of rewatching it. Pierce (pardon the pun) killed the role.
License to kill had a pretty strong opening with one of the best stunts in any Bond movie: a helicopter winching in a plane I shit you not. But the very best was The Spy Who Loved Me....the skie sequencefollowed by one of the earliest BASE jumps ever.
Damn... 6:08-6:10 is a rare moment 007 shows fear. Your with your friend and fellow agent, doing very dangerous missions like they are used to, but all of a sudden everything goes to hell. Your friend is captured, executed in front of you, and you are left surrounded and it seems like there is no escape. That is a lot to process in a very short time for a person. Despite all of Bond's advanced training and experience, it goes to show you that he is still human and can revert emotionally to that of a scared little kid, even if only for a few seconds. Now imagine what real operatives in the field go through / have to think about.
sorry to revive an old thread but even cooler how despite the fear and emotion, he processes Orimov's command to his men: "don't shoot or you'll blow the gas tanks" so Bond knows he can use the trolly with the cannisters to maneuver. So awesome.
3:47 This moment always confused me when I saw this film as a kid. I distinctly remember that you weren't supposed to kill any of the scientists during this mission. The only explanation that I could think of at the time was that this was meant to foreshadow the revelation that Alec was the main villain.
Brosnans bond and Craigs are very different. Both are great. Brosnans bond is more direct and charming yet very strong in the way that it reflates this huge period for the action genre that where the 90s and 80s. But unfortunately for him, the movies went down in quality as they progressed. Craigs is more uneven. Directing and cinematography makes for a lot of his charisma. Story structure as well. I mean CR and Skyfall are masterpiece and rank amongst the best bond movies ever made for many. Just as Goldeneye did back in the day for Brosnan. It
necroplastful I guess you have to ask yourself who you are able to relate to best. I think you are right about the different periods that Brosnan and Craig represent, and that Brosnans era had the emphasis on action. That’s not to say that Craig’s movies aren’t dynamic, but for me there is a kind of surface coldness, a distance. Craig’s Bond fits perfectly.
_GoldenEye_ is such a great movie! It has great actors and actresses, with an interesting story and characters that have great character arcs! I love the overall tone of this film too! The Russian Cyrillic and the details with late Soviet-era to (later) Russian settings alone really add a lot to this film! Even the props, stunts, effects, and miniatures look good for a movie from this time period! I love the soundtracks too! The music is so perfectly fitting for this film! And, don't get me started on _GoldenEye 007,_ the _N64_ game! It is the best overall action, FPS, and multiplayer game for the _N64,_ in my honest opinion! Man, I miss 1995!

Man....Best Bond intro. Pierce breathed fresh life back into the franchise.
6:40 always makes me laugh so hard how Ourumov just casually kills the guy and no one else even flinches 😆
Quite possibly the best opening for a James Bond movie ever!!! People forget that prior to this, it wasn't known for sure if James Bond would continue, as there hadn't been a Bond film in 6 years due to legal disputes and the cold war had ended causing some to question whether Bond could still be relevant in the post cold war world. So glad they kept with it because like many, this film holds a very special place in my heart.
It is actually well known about the legal issues and how Goldeneye rejuvenated the Bond series.
KillerFrank well put
6 years for a sequel to come out is hardly a long time.
Wasn't a third Bond film with Timothy Dalton in planning, but he didn't wanna play Bond anymore?
@@spacemann1425 Timothy Dalton was under contract to play Bond for a few movies, but by the time the legal issues had been resolved, his contract had ended, meaning he only got two movies out of it, and they had to find someone else to play Bond. That someone ended up being Pierce Brosnan.
one of the best bond flicks ever. I remember when there were a lot of audio equipment stores around and this was the movie they used to sell dolby surround to people.
Man i remember me being 7 years old with my N64 playing Goldeneye... I realised 15 years later there was a movie about it...
THIS is how you make a pre-credit cold open entrance to a Bond movie. The stunts, score, atmosphere, sleek execution…and, of course, Pierce Brosnan. Damn, Goldeneye had it all.
You all can have the cute programmer girl who works on the guidance system, I claim Miss Onatop! I like crazy and mean.

I liked Pierce as bond he brought coolness adding bits of Roger sauve and humour and added his own little twist too ☺️
Seeing all the references to the N64 game in the comments is just satisfying. It shows how close GoldenEye is to the hearts of many gamers including myself. I loved the movie and the game growing up.
Also, I always used to think that the scientist dude that 006 killed was Dr. Doak.
This is still the best opening of any Bond movie IMO, the way the tension escalates throughout, it's like the bank robbery scene in TDK
It’s one of my favorites, too! But I gotta admit, Casino Royale had my favorite intro with Bond becoming a 00 agent and the parkour chase with Sebastian!

I love how the soldier sitting on the can has absolutely no reaction to the inverted brit suddenly speaking to him... from inside his stall.
I love how this movie and this era of Bond starts with James leaping into action. It's like we're leaping into the new Bond era.
🤯
Very true!
I still get anxiety from doors shutting / and fuck odd job forever.
You are way overthinking this.
You mean the garbage that it now is ?
I remember renting this movie over and over from Blockbuster and never getting bored of it. Ah take me back to the 90s
Saw this in the theater as a kid with my uncle on Christmas. Most awesome cinematic experience of my life to that point and made me a Bond fan for life.
Hey you CAN'T shoot the unarmed scientists you'll fail the level. Oh wait this is the movie!
You can get away with killing 2
Plus It was Alec Trevelyen who killed the Scientist and He’s the Villain of the Movie and you don’t play Him in the Game. Lol. Sean Bean was Brilliant in this Movie because He’s always Great at playing Villains! Just look at how Menacing He looks shooting the Innocent Scientist like He doesn’t have a Care in the World.
Paul Daniels I agree because GoldenEye was my Childhood Bond and still my #1 Favourite but I also Love Daniel Craig’s Casino Royal and Skyfall. But GoldenEye is by Far Pierce Brosnan’s Best and arguably Only Good Bond Film.
I still find it crazy how the game was more popular than the movie even though the movie came out first!

Well they had to cast a german to play a russian..for whatever reason.
He did surrender, Ourumov shot Alec anyway. At that point Bond had no move except to finish the mission
The soundtrack still gives me goosebumps!! Love this film 👌
"You can't win."
I love the way Ouromov says this lol

In Soviet Russia it’s death for insubordination.
Why suffer fools?
Lmao just caps him no hesitation
I watched this movie together with my grandfather who used to be a colonel in the Yugoslav People's Army - his comments were priceless.
Yes, it let's you know the movie is a joke
Only movie to game that was pretty much on point. Unlike most. Cough hack hack resident evil lol
@@treatwomenright33
Especially for the time. The amount of stuff they were able to recreate with a decent level of accuracy is still impressive today. Facility is just spot on!
Yeah. I played countless hours of it on N64, and still have both console and cartridge to this day. Btw, there's also a Goldeneye game for PS3, which is also really cool.
Thats what I call catching a flight.
Ha! Bond level pun right there
This movie is incredible in the way that it introduces the main characters.
Never figured out how that mountain top lab connected with that Dam.
My five cents: There's a tunnel inside the dam that goes through the mountain. The factory is is on the other side of the mountain. Since the tunnel is near the bottom of the dam, bungee jumping was the fastest way to it.
Its supposed to be Archangel, but the land there is fairly flat. Its a movie though.

Very well observed, very well!

Jack Labert great explanation. I would have liked to see that tunnel and bond and 006 going upwards to that facility to clear my confusion..
That's a 720-foot bungee jump by stuntman Wayne Michaels...

Best opening scene in a Bond movie IMO. It’s such a gritty and explosive start with the perfect balance of action, suspense and humour. This was also the first Bond I watched and I’ve never grown tired of rewatching it. Pierce (pardon the pun) killed the role.
You need to see more Bond movies then
Punished Albanian Sam Hyde seen them all mate. For it’s time this is the most engaging start I’ve watched.
sam m this was my first bond movie in the theatre. i was 15.
You basically just described what makes a good Bond opening lol
License to kill had a pretty strong opening with one of the best stunts in any Bond movie: a helicopter winching in a plane I shit you not. But the very best was The Spy Who Loved Me....the skie sequencefollowed by one of the earliest BASE jumps ever.
It’s been damn 25 years since I played it and I still remember this is Dam, Facility, and Runway.
This whole sequence is outrageous, and imo the finest 10 minutes of the whole Bond franchise.
I never quite realized how well this movie is shot, for example how the shot at 2:21 transitions into a close-up is really nicely done
Bond's reaction to seeing his friend shot is heartbreaking. Even moreso when you consider his betrayal.
Can’t even lie, Oroumovs uniform got me into Soviet surplus when I saw goldeneye as a kid
Goldeneye (1995) is one of my favourite James Bond 007 movies in history. I rate it 10/10
Exactly, you miss it the first time but after a couple of rewatches, you see. These little details are damn fun look for.
sorry to revive an old thread but even cooler how despite the fear and emotion, he processes Orimov's command to his men: "don't shoot or you'll blow the gas tanks" so Bond knows he can use the trolly with the cannisters to maneuver. So awesome.
Bulshit men are devoid of fear and emotions.
Bond has shown fear all the time.
Love the techno music theme in the background.....So 90's....
*4:42** Ouromov's self-centered entrance has marked me since I was a child haha. The first James Bond movie I watched.*

This moment always confused me when I saw this film as a kid. I distinctly remember that you weren't supposed to kill any of the scientists during this mission. The only explanation that I could think of at the time was that this was meant to foreshadow the revelation that Alec was the main villain.
Also to stop him from sounding the alarm
I love how casually they just walk in and shoot the scientist.
Well they don't need him raising an alarm now do they?

Craig is excellent in the role but Brosnan is still my favourite. He’s rather vulnerable and likeable.
Brosnan has more charisma too. Craig does but Brosnan has more.
@@necroplastful Loved Brosnan but never liked Craig

Even the props, stunts, effects, and miniatures look good for a movie from this time period! I love the soundtracks too! The music is so perfectly fitting for this film!
