Truth! Ken is the only shave reviewer I still watch for the most part. That good nature just shines through the video, and you just feel like you’re hanging out with a friend talking shave stuff.

The Twig (the clear razor) is for under the nose.
You loaded the right two blades. The top blade hardly cuts, but it does help a bit when you use all 3 blade slots.
I have seen bad reviews for this razor come from two things:
1) They didn't use the pivot
2) They loaded only the top and middle blades

The bottom and middle positions are the way to go with two blades. Close shave but forgiving like a cartridge.
I just bought one of these. I loaded all 3 blades and nicked myself (head shaving) three times. This never happens with a cartridge. I am thinking about taking out the 3rd (most aggressive) blade and trying it that way. Do you have any other tips?
@@RideByNight While you want to engage the pivot, you don't want to use near the pressure you'd use with most cartridges.

Awesome I have a Vikings blade godfather I'm going to buy the Vikings emperor but now this is going to be on my list as well. I have very sensitive skin so I don't normally buy hybrid razors, but this looks like it'd be worth the money.

Gotta love the burn Ken... The clear plastic razor in the box is for under the nose and the side burn area. The idea is to use two DE blades, three halves in the Leaf and one half in the Twig keeping all nice and tidy. YMMV. That's just what I was told anyway. Looked like it did the trick for you though, smooth looking shave. TOBS Grapefruit is super good cream with the most realistic scent, superb. Another great video Ken, thanks. Enjoy!

Glad you like this razor. I got one about when your video came out, but made a key error. I got the rose gold finish. An alloy of copper, that finish will tarnish like crazy. And it's not an even "patina" at all. You got the chrome one, good choice. By the way, I use a different razor for under the nose.

This is good, you can use two complete doble edge blades in half, three pieces for the big metal one and one for the plastic one, wich I think is designed to get easier the spot under the nose.

Hey Ken, it takes a little bit of practice to shave under the nose with the leaf. The leaf is a great alternative to a cartarge razor. I hate that twig always had problems getting the blade lined up properly. I have the leaf in my weekly rotation.

I want to pick one of those up to try it. I use double edge safety razors but I can't help but appreciate the engineering of that leaf razor. It also looks like it would be nice for my head if it's too sensitive for a double edge (which has happened a couple of times from some rough shaves from experimenting too much)

Ken, while at Lake Tahoe visit Camp Richardson in South Lake Tahoe, there is a restaurant called the Beacon that I highly recommend.I have eaten there several times. Great food, great view and they are famous for their Rum Runner.

I backed the Leaf razor one kickstarter. My only complaint about the Leaf is the amount of pressure I have to use to get it to work well for me. I basically have to mash it on my face, maxing the pivot out. I wrote to Leaf and gave them my feedback. They replied stating that the pressure of the pivot was one of the most discussed items while designing the razor. They landed where they did in hopes to hit the sweet spot for the masses. Although I get a good shave from it and love the concept, I rarely reach for my Leaf. I loan it out more than I use it. Great shave and enjoy Tahoe. I'm just down the hill in Sacramento. Hopefully all the smoke from the fires don't stay around while you're up there.

Great shave ken use a astra blade in that and put a blade on that plastic razor because that helps to get you on the moustache area

Nice benchmade. If you like the one you have you should check out the 940. In my opinion the best edc blade ever. I have over 100 knives and I always go for my benchmade 940. Awesome video too. I have looked at the leaf before but I always thought it would be difficult under the nose.

Bj Cundiff I have a 940 also but no lanyard hole. It is a great knife.
Yea, not having a lanyard hole is a bit of a downfall, but the way I got around it was calling benchmade and having them send me a deep carry pocket clip. Once I got it and had it on the knife I took my paracord and put it thru the pocket clip. And the good thing about it that way is it is easy to take on and off. I'll post a pic of how I did it in edged addiction assylum later on if you want to see how I did it.

I like this review. Good to see product review and my comment would be the use DE Razors "because" we don't like the abrasiveness and expect of Mach 3-4-... IME, find a couple DE blades that suit your face and run with it. That said, load up the Leaf with Feather's and you may have might be out of this world ? Looking forward to the review...versus trying it myself :)

Very nice shave and video Ken. I was waiting on this one. I no longer use cartridges. The last pack I bought was duds which cost me $40 dollars. My last shave was with the Merkur 42C and it was perfect. So I am back to straight razors and DE safety razors. :D

Have one on me everyday, most of the time I also carry a leatherman TTI too.. you won’t believe how often you use those tools if you have them on you.
That being said, most people in the Netherlands are scared of knives (unless its a victorinox pocket knife) so I open my flipper knife more discretely around them :)

It was a pleasure watching you use that razor. I still stand by my comment last week, it's the dumbest thing. That said in the hand of the master it was a great view. You loaded it correctly, from the bottom up. That twig is for under the nose, and uses up the 4th blade half if you loaded 3 half's. It just seems like so much work if you change your blades often. Great job as always, looking forward to the next video.

You got me back into wet shaving. I tried it once and gave up on it because I was frustrated. Then, out of curiosity, I started looking on youtube again for wet shaving videos and found your channel. I have enjoyed your videos ever since! I just got a Leaf Razor for myself. Any suggestions on technique with it? I am fairly new to the DE world in general, and especially with the Leaf.
Ok. Little late to this one. Just ordered my first DE razor. Why would someone not be able to use the DE razor? I am looking at this one as I shave my head too and not sure I want to use the DE right away in the old head.

interesting razor... but seems to be too much work to load it up with blades (not to mention a bit scary and dangerous), and you have to use yet another razor (the twig) for the area under the nose. can't fault the idea, but the execution leaves a bit to be desired. thanks for the review though :)

Hmmmm, personally I rather use DE razors with single blade instead of two or three blades to prevent skin irritations. But I looked it up and they look nice razors. But good job in figuring it out without reading the instructions.

You can still use a single blade in it. Using more than one blade just gives you more options.

Hey, here's a simple suggestion (by no means the only route):
-Parker Variant (this allows you to adjust how aggressive the razor will cut)
-Voskhod Double Edge (DE) blades
If you want to get fancy with it then you can also get:
-Shave soap (Sir Hare is a fun little option)
-Synthetic Brush
-You can just use a cereal bowl or buy a lather bowl of you want
Perhaps a comparison with the Defender 3-Blade that works well for Chris and Ken BS.

tanathos0414 I have feathers in mine at the moment. 5 shaves with same blades so far.. It seems to kind of feel the same no matter what blades I throw in it... I have used Gillette 7o'clock Super Stainless (Green Pack), Astra and now the Feather. Next is Derby in it. But I don't think that'll make a difference.... Seeing that feathers are so completely tame in this razor...

The head is too large and bulky to shave my legs well. The trouble areas around our tendons on the outside of the legs by the knees do not get shaven close and it doesn't handle divots on the knees and ankles etc. It tends to just use the middle of the blades when shaving those areas. I wouldn't get the wife one. Does not give a close shave either.

I agree with everybody, though, about that Twig. Seems appropriately engineered. Lean and light. A simple solution for the tighter places a DE can't go. It's got It's own header card, is it sold separately?
