That one is far easier than the entertainer and it also sounds great! You should give it a shot. I wish you luck on your journey in the ragtime genre.
I am 65 and played piano from the time I was 10. Not a lot of lessons but ad libbed a lot. I did learn some Scott Joplin...love that kind of music. My favorites are 12th street rag, maple leaf rag and pineapple rag. You are excellent and very talented. It takes me back. Thank you for bringing back some delightful memories. 🤗☺️🎹👍

My parents put a lock on the piano too. It didn’t stop me. I play at every party and every night to wind down. Or have the neighbors in philly enjoy it as they walk by my building. Keep it up. People will appreciate your talent and special gift. You can literally cause people to smile. It’s incredible.

Speaking here as an old guy! who learned to play some of Joplin's rags when your age.... (and can STILL play some of them).. I think this is really really good. Delightful ! You are finding bits to additionally syncopate beyond what was written. Without overdoing it. Great touch. With musical humour, too! And the effect is really enjoyable. And as another commenter has said, I also believe you are playing just as Joplin would have intended. After watching this I sat down and (it's been years) - my fingers themselves remembered the first part and the last part. Now I just have to work on the middle again.

I was wondering when you would finally learn this piece and upload it to RUclips. I’ve seen your post on Instagram about it quite a while ago while it was still in the making. I must say you did a fantastic job! I can tell you’ve must have put hours of work into it as it shows through your flawless performance. I didn’t spot a single mistake coming from a Joplin fan such as myself. And this piece is also one of my favourites of his. I’m impressed by your level of musicianship when it involves licensing and ad libbing. I could clearly hear your extra voicing you added in both hands, but particularly the right. It really helps to make the piece your own a bit, without changing the original mood or intention that Joplin was aiming to capture. In your case, you pulled it off perfectly, which is part of what makes your music so original. Even when you’re playing somebody else’s piece. Well done. 👏

I have played that one myself--but I couldn't have come up with that good a rendition if I'd tried for FORTY hours! Great job! (Good for you for memorizing, too.)

I’ve got a real good headphones but that’s the best sounding studio piano I’ve heard in my life so nicely tuned and tempered and you play well very well glad I stumbled across this tonight.
And yah Kristen ... it’s nice to tell listeners about the bloopers... you gave me a good idea ... maybe I should put together some outtakes from our studio sessions from our last album with all the goofy shit and mistakes that people don’t know about when all they see/hear is the final product. Also gives people an idea of the effort and commitment it takes. Kind of like when Penn & Teller do a magic routine all the while showing you how it’s done.

I agree. I bought a piano this year. It took me 160 hours to learn entertainer. Easy version. It will take me 10 years to learn this one

Rags are difficult to play properly. It helps to have a natural knack for this kind of music, as Kristin certainly does!!

Ragtime is NOT Jazz. At least the original Ragtime artistes didn't think so. They made no secret of their disdain for such "vulgar " music.
