All battlepasses suck, except for the Deep Rock Galactic one. Free, and no FOMO because anything you DON'T get from it goes into the random loot pool from regular play.
And with the new season you can just toggle any previous seasons battle pass
not all, warframe has a free battlepass
The Helldivers 2 warbonds are essentially battlepasses and are a great example of how to handle them in a (nearly) full price game. Similar to DRG theres no expiration

Gura and Ame have a history of subtly throwing shade at a game WHILE being sponsored by it.
OW lootboxes 9 years ago are obtainable by grinding so you have a choice if you spend money on skins and such or wait for your luck. Today you need money for good ones.
It also gave game currency in loot boxes so even if luck wasn't with you, if you did enough grind you could still "buy" what you wanted .
And then the whole industry saw how gacha style could be exploited, and decided to take it to the point that it got countries to create laws forbidding them in some of them. Now we get a battle pass, at least, now heroes are not in it. so there is that.
well the ones complaining about lootboxes are from other games making them essentially pay to win, that and blizzard executives not getting to squeeze the pockets out of their playerbase

It's because at that time HoloJP was doing sponsorship streams with xbox and their gamepasses, if they said the joke any other time than that time then it would've probably been fine

Jokes aside, loot boxes for just playin the game and having chances at the new stuff released in the game was far preferable to the 20 to 50 dollar price tags mandatory on the crap they are shoveling out now due to the stunt they pulled with OW2.
Almost everyone agrees loot boxes were far more preferred over this current garbage monetization.

Others already commented but I'll say it anyway. when Gura and Ame made that joke, Hololive JP was having a promotion with xbox and their gamepass, Gura and Ame probably didn't know about it, if they hadn't been more careful with the joke.
It's sorta common sense you don't badmouth a current or potential sponsor. You don't need to dehumanize employees, it's just normal business. They aren't pro game reviewers.
