Me too - and I love real heavy metal. Bathory, Obituary, Carcass, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Celtic Frost, Slayer, Death, Burzum, Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus, Dragon-Force, Candlemass, Venom, Death, Kampfar, etc.
This version made me fall in love with the song. Great voice! Keel made/makes great music. I have all of their albums. Fond memories of taking the top off of the Trans Am and roaring down the country road blasting "Rock 'n' Roll Outlaw"!
So much competition in the genre...Bon Jovi...good looking guy... Aerosmith... Tyler mega charismatic...Van Halen... Eddie solos... Motley Crue.. Notorious bad boys....so pushed back and back
@@terryadams8620 Damn! I didn't see "KEEL" till 85 Grady Cole center Charlotte NC. They opened for Helix , then Accept headlined. 3 band show. It was awesome. My best friend and I met Brian Jay out at the T-SHIRT stand and he was really cool. We were 15 at the time and loved it. I'll never forget it. One of my first shows
Saw Keel live in 86 in McAllen, TX with 2 other bands....one which I don't remember and I think the other one was Raven. I think Raven had a drummer that wore a hockey mask and he would hit himself with the drumstick. Nonetheless Keel stole the show. Best concert to this day that I've been too and I've seen great live bands like Poison, Warrant, the Crue, Ratt and Kiss just to name a few.
It’s to bad we can’t go back in time, the 80s best decade ever I miss it, had so much fun the music was awesome and many grand memories. Damn time flies 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I put this on and I'm instantly 16 again.... thinking of things that were going on in my life then... friends who arent here anymore ...its really a bittersweet listen now... it's pretty amazing how music can do that ...
I'm ashamed to say I had forgotten this cover. I actually had the cassette (yikes) back in the day. Tears of fire was on it too. I really miss those days, Ron Keel.
The same thing happened to me in 2018 and today. I remember listening to this song with my friend in high school and then all of a sudden, for the first time in 10 years, I rediscovered this song.
I swear in the name of great American heavy metal from the 80's, bands like Keel, Riot, Jag Panzer, Savatage, Crimson Glory, Leatherwolf, Banshee, Metal Church, Fifth Angel, Savage Grace, Meliah Rage and countless others were among the best of the best at metal and never got nearly as much recognition as they should have. It's sad. But we still got some epic works of metal greatness. And Keel made a masterwork out of this timeless song (And I love the original too).
@@MarcFerrari Hi Marc. This is truly an honour for me that you have taken the time to read my comment and share with me the history of how both yourself and the guitarist of Meliah Rage played together at one time. I have been a fan of Keel for a long time and your guitar work has always been a massive inspiration to me. And I loved you in Wayne's World as the guitarist in Cassandra's band. Thanks so much for inspiring me with your music. Best Regards. V.
Take me now, baby, here as I am Pull me close, try and understand Desire is hunger, is the fire I breathe Love is a banquet on which we feed Come on now, try and understand The way I feel when I'm in your hands Take my hand when I'm under cover They can't hurt you now, can't hurt you now, can't hurt you now Because the night belongs to lovers Because the night belongs to us Because the night belongs to lovers Because the night belongs to us Have I a doubt, when I'm alone Love is a ring a telephone Love is an angel, disguised as lust Here in our bed 'til the morning comes Come on now, try and understand The way I feel under your command Take my hand, as the sun descends They can't touch you now, can't touch you now, can't touch you now Because the night belongs to lovers Because the night belongs to us Because the night belongs to lovers Because the night belongs to us It belongs to us With love we sleep With doubt the vicious circle turns and turns The yearning burning I believe it's time to really feel So touch me now, touch me now, touch me now Oh, because the night Because the night Because the night Because the night belongs to us Because the night belongs to lovers Because the night belongs to us Because the night belongs to lovers Because the night Because the night belongs to lovers Because the night belongs to us Because the night belongs to lovers Because the night
Grew up with the Corona remix. Thought it was good, until I discovered this version. Of all covers and remixes out there, the Keel one will remain the best, and a great example of a civer better than the original.
This would be considered sacrilege to Patti Smith and Springsteen fans, but this is easily the best version of this song. Keel was so fucking underrated. The Right To Rock & The Final Frontier were every bit as good as anything else that came out in 84, 85, 86, & 87.
I remember seeing Keel live at the Eagles Ballroom in Milwaukee. Meet Ron personally before the show and he was the sweetest guy! Stayed and talked with me and my friend Tammy for at least a half hour. Signed autographs and took pics with us!
Was 14 when I first heard In my 40s now, still gives me chills. Yeah, we study a lot of things, technology, social media, blah blah. A wink from a pretty girl, and you're hearing this song in your head.
There are several videos, including this one and Tears Of Fire that take me back to 1986 when MTV would have a monthly show that pre-dated Headbanger's Ball called Heavy Metal Mania, hosted by Dee Snider. That show was great, and these videos were part of all that. Those were the days!!!
I saw Keel a bunch of times in L.A. Last time was in '88 at The Country Club where they headlined a triple bill with Jaded Lady opening, then I think Shark Island in the middle. Great show. I didn't realize at the time Mark Ferrari had left the band and saw him in the lobby and said, in my annoying teenage voice, "Dude, you're the guitarist from Keel, right?" and he laughed and said, "Yeah. The guitarist in keel!" Then, when Keel hit the stage I saw why he was laughing. I didn't know he wasn't in the band anymore. The irony...
G Star I did too! It was a larger bill, tho. It included Accept with Keel and Helix, another band who I can't remember, and local heroes Lillian Axe opened the show. Accept headlined, so they played last. It was in an old ornate theater in New Orleans, and my ears hurt by the time Accept began. Had to move back many rows! A great show, nonetheless. Man I miss the 80s metal shows!!
Now that I think about it, I believe Accept headlined my show as well. Don't know how I forgot that. It was in the old Grady Cole music theater in Charlotte.
I saw Keel when I was 20 or 21. "The Right To Rock"....was the song for me. Great live show....I recognized Marc Ferrari in the video. Wow, he's been around a long time, kind of silently becoming a rock legend. There hasn't been a lot of fan fare about him; but, he's contributed to some good music. He was kind of under-rated as a vocalist. He laid down some stellar vocals with Pantera.
Saw Keel open for Quiet Riot in Poughkeepsie, NY during a snowstorm. Very small crowd but to both bands’ credit, they did not half-ass it. Keel was great and we met Ron Keel after the show out by the bus. Just a few of us and a couple others and he talked about the show, tour, etc.. for probably 20 min and was very appreciative we showed up in that weather.

This is the definitive version. Not as sappy as Natalie Merchant's, which I do like, or as plaintive as Bruce's.
Same here

It's just crazy that in the era of the power ballad this didn't push Keel over the top.
I agree
The were produce by Gene Simmons. It's a mystery.
