Best video I've seen on how to color grade video. So many other videos say Eterna doesn't need any grading, but I've always thought the skin tones look too yellow/green. The colors at the end in this video look amazing.
Thanks Palle, I always get excited when I see, ohh Palle just uploaded another video, love your style! and this video series has been so helpful to me...
Perfect Video thank you Palle! I have a problem with the blacks/shadows showing more too dark as they are, maybe u can help?! Maybe it's a Gamma shift Problem? Using a X-T3, iMac 27 Retina, iPhone (viewing) (not talking about FCP grading etc. at this time) Videos are recorded in the X-T3 with, DR400, H265, in different modes for testing like Provia, Eterna, HLG. When recorded in a Filmsimulation (Proivia, Eterna), the blacks are deeper on the Mac than in camera (the lowest balcks are always crushed) Software: Finder Quickview, FCP, Quicktime, Apple Photos, VLC Player - all have deeper blacks. When playing these files through the PLEX Server Player on Mac, it's presenting correct the last black/shadow step (can be easyly tested with waering a black t-shirt) - but only when playing with PLEX. - on all Apple Devices, iMac and iPhone, the Blacks are presented too black. So frustrating (of course you can boost the Shadows in FCP, but it looks like cutted of on the lower end at Waveform, doesn't seem right.) (also you can boost "Shadows" in Camera, but this is the wrong way, than the blacks are too high when viewed right, Shadow 0 is correct, and should be) Recordings with HLG are presented right on the basic Apple devices. (on the other Hand PLEX doesn't show HLG right😄) But it's more important that the Basic Filmsimulations are presented right, which they aren't. Plex was just to experiment for. In your Video here you have perfevt leveled blacks (your t-shirt)(like u show, after greaded in FCP) Do your Original Files show right blacks in the Finder?? This is so frustrating here, don't know if this is APPLEs or FUJIs fault.. please all comment and test it, THANK YOU
Hi Palle. I had a problem with my X-T3 recently when shooting an interview. Camera was set to AF-C with eye detect on. I was using 35mm f2 lens. AF custom setting was +2, speed -5. The problem was the focus kept 'pulsing' really quickly. Racking back and forth just a tiny amount - not enough to go out of focus. I can't see what I did wrong with settings. THe subject was seated and had very little head movement. Shot was well lit and eyes not obstructed by hair etc. I'd really appreciate your experiences and thoughts. Thank you!
I rarely use AF. An interview is done best with an Aperture of 4-5.6 and set at the distance. That gives a very calm appearance. I use AF when I show products in a talking head video. Then my AF is set to multi, and the values set to +2 and 0. When I use the old 35mm f/1.4 it almost look manually pulled, because it's a bit slow. When the tech fails you at a set, best advice is abandon what acts up and go to full manual. Because that never fails.
What would you suggest as a video monitor ? I didn't see this problem on set since I was only viewing the back of the camera. Hopefully you can set me in the right track!
Palle, thank you yet again. This will be very helpful. Are you aware that "And now for something completely different" comes from Rocky and Bullwinkle? Or did Rocky say, "And now for something you'll REALLY enjoy"? Too long since I watched in hospital in 1965.
Are there any differences between internal Etarna profile and Eterna Lut for Flog for x-t3? I have this camera, i love it and shoot most of time with flog only. Just wanna know about ur opinion. Thank you
There are differences in high contrast scene, definitely better roll off with F-Log though Eterna profile is really good for fast delivery ,especially for HLG delivery.
Hello, how are you? I would like knowing how could I edit my h.265 files on final. I got no codec, no nothing, and don't know how to fix it, could you help me with that issue? Thanks for your videos, they are great, and I bought my fuji xt3, because of your images.
@@pitchpatch When it comes to shutter speed, powergrid frequencies have a direct effect on light sources and that is why you have to get rid of the artefacts it causes, when you film it with a digital sensor. So you have to sync those two. And the way to get rid of banding, is to hit a SS number that fits the HZ of the country you are in. Shutter speeds also affects motion blur. Longer SS makes more motion blur, faster shutter speeds makes less motion blur and can result in motion looking choppy. It doesn't really matter if your ss is 1/48 or 1/50 outside without artificial lights. But inside under artificial light. You have to sync your sensors moment of capture to the light to avoid banding. Old circular shutters is what causes us to use the 180° rule, because of the mechanics of old film cameras, but that's a longer explanation.
@@pitchpatch It still depends on frequenzy. Not all LED's conforms to the powercycle, so you have to look for banding and adjust accordingly. If you live in a 50hz area, then try 1/50 and see how it looks. What frame rate you choose is entirely up to what look you want.
Hello, I have a few questions. Should i add a LUT only to a F-log or HLG previously recorded or may i just put it over a regular footage ? Is it also ok to ad a LUT to only a 8 bit footage? Is that ok? Thanks very much for a reply.

I grade everything and think you are right. You want that personal tweak. :)
This whole series is a real gift. Thank you!
Dood. PLEASE keep producing content. You’re amazing! Very knowledgeable and great presence
You colour grade to enhance the emotion of the scene. That's the simple but powerful take away message. Thanks!
Loving the Fuji XT3 series. It's really helped to tip me in favour of buying one. Thanks Palle!

Your a genius my guy. Thanks for your Fuji videos! Looking forward for future content!
i am curious about how you color and set the light in the 0:06. It is sooooo cooool
Thanks Palle. Good stuff! Good comparison of your color grading! Happy day!
I really enjoyed your style and presentation! Well done.
Thanks Pallet. This video is nice
Hello Palle, as I'm a Belgian, it is great to see that you have the Tintin rocket. Hergé is is one of my heroes. Greetings Alain

Great video and concise to the point with no BS. Thanks
This video makes me wanna buy a Fuji, which I'll probably do. Just haven't figured out if I need the X-T3 or the X-T30 is enough for me.
Your fun facts Friday with Palle. Have an awesome weekend.

orangereya today somewhat. Not sure. Have mostly used Eterna because it looks good and are quite time saving

Transcode it. Right click on the footage in the browser and and choose: Transcode
@@PalleSchultz I dont have that option, should I have something installed?
Ivan Conde What app do you use for editing?
@@PalleSchultz Final Cut Pro X and Premiere CC
@@ivancondeph No, no extras. You choose the clips in the browser and choose the transcode files option. It's there.
wow, may God bless you man! Thank you
What shutter speed where you running here? 1/60? Thanks!
1/50. In Denmark our power outlet is 50 HZ. To avoid banding 1/50ss works inside. In other countries, the outlet is 60HZ and there you'd use 1/60ss

Can you just download all of that into a micro chip that I can upload in my brain? Thanks in advance!
Hit me up in 2040, then I'll make a video about it ;)

You can use luts on anything you like. Just blend it in to a percentage where it looks good.
