Those profiles are pure gold. I have been using them on the RT2600ac since my son was old enough to have his own devices and cutting off the internet on a schedule etc.
Thanks, I really LOVE these pro & con videos. They give me a quick and easy reference so when my wife asks why I want to get something, I can point her to these videos and we can discuss the points intelligently. I appreciate what you do!
Safe access is what sold me on Synology and their NAS solutions are some is the best in the industry. I'd gladly pay to stay on the ecosystem as they're support is far beyond any of their competitors like Asus, dlink, Netgear, etc. When I have issues, it's not hard to get a hardware engineer looped in to help troubleshoot. The peace of mind knowing that people who know what they are doing are ready to help when something inevitably fails should be talked about more.
At my office I have the 2600 and 3 are in different houses on the site to site vpn. Works great. I have a vacation property with one. All but the office have mesh access points as well. Really looking forward to SRM 1.3 with VLAN support which is my number 1 reason to wait. Always enjoy your videos.
I have the RT2600ac at home and with the SRM 1.3 coming soon offeing the VLAN binding capabilities, is there any compeling reason to make the leap into the new box?
Question: the mesh? = extender? and if so cant you just connect a 2nd router and turn off the DHCP server off the router? or is that mesh thing something different? and can you turn off/disable the DHCP server on that router?
Great video. You are always my go to when thinking of purchasing anything Synology related. Quick one, has the patch update been added for mesh MR2200AC as I thinking of upgrading. Thanks
Previously Synology Routers had a tendency to deliberately slow down the USB ports so as not to interfere with WiFi performance. One has to wonder if the RT6600AX does something similar.
Great review as per your normal professional work - thank you. Sorry, seniors moment here, I assume this product is also a modem that can operate on the Australian NBN network. If not, can you recommend a VDSL modem to work with this device please? Cheers from across the miles.
Thanks for this very balanced summary. I'd be happy to pay a premium price for a premium device, but the hardware shortcomings of this router are ridiculous.
Purchased one of these after seeing this video along with a couple of others, 3 weeks after purchase it ceased working so returned it, Sent a new one, 5 weeks later and that failed too :-(
I think the negatives outweigh the positives for the price Anyone spending this kind of $ is not your average consumer that just wants WiFi in their home At this price point they're targeting someone that knows what they're looking for and what hardware capabilities the want. Again, it seems Synology has great software but is just a bit behind with their hardware
Always wondered why route in the song goes "get your kicks on ROOT 66" like most British pronounce, while many times Americans pronounce route as ROWT. Same with routers.
Both American and British English have multiple pronunciations for the same word. There’s a famous song about it. The Brits use the other pronunciation for the tool despite the same spelling.
You seem to have the ability to offer suggestions to the manufacturers please tell them for me that with the Advent of The Internet of Things single board computers Raspberry Pi and CNC etc a rooter with four 2.5g ports and 4 poe 1000/100 is minimum 8x8 would handle most home or SB sole prop use, cameras every where and AI needs the speed.
RTX6600 I have one , 1 Issue Site to Site with another Router not RTX6600 Unable to get this to Work . Synology Claims I have to have another RTX6600 and the other side to make this work. It this really True ? Comment from Synology Tech Support Follows. Sir, you are 100% correct. Although the instructions are specific to having two or more Synology routers to create the STS VPN, there really should be a Pop-Up page notifying users that Synology's STS VPN is designed to work with Synology Routers. This will be discussed with my supervisors this afternoon. They will be able to relay ths information to our web development team as well. We intend for our documentation to be very clear to our users. If it is not then we need edit the reported documentation to be more clear for the end-users. I appreciate your feedback and welcome you to create a new support ticket if you suggestions for edits in the future. Kindly let me know if there is anything else I can do to help at this time. This sounds Crazy not to be able to have this RTX6600 unable to Tunnel to Tunnel to other Routers . Please someone tell me this is not correct and you have Site to Site Running.
And all kidding aside I really like all your reviews and I currently got a 453D 16gb looking for a coral AI USB stick (500us$ in Japan, no thanks) Ps if it matters I have the 2xm.2+2gbx2 pcie card, 2 rooters and a netgear 108? Smart switch w a 6pt poe dumb switch. Trying to learn a netgear prosafe 24p poe managed dinosaur switch, to many power cables and rolling blackouts expected for my ups, ocd yes
TP Link axe 300 and 200 routers are coming by the end of the year, probably, maybe? They look pretty impressive. I have been waiting for the RTÉ 6600AX to be released, but I do feel it is quite pricey for hardware that is slightly behind the curve. I understand that the software is incredible but that doesn’t make the whole package perfect and most importantly, future proof. I am currently using a net gear R9000 with DDWRT firmware which after several resets seems to be pretty stable. I quite like the idea of file station on a router though, what is the maximum sized hard drive the RT 6600 will take? Thanks for your reviews, they are very helpful and I hate seagulls.
synology can do this right but meh, its just like any other router CPE out there with extra little gimmicks. im still waiting for a actual reputable brands to actually embed their router with a low power x86 processor. cut all the crap with hardware accelerators for NAT.

It has a setting in the control panel to manually action the USB limiting. An on/off in the USB settings menu.
@@nascompares Thanks, good info that.

dual wan is it only as fail over or can it do load balancing as well ?
Talked to Synology Rep there may be no 2.5GBe coming in the future . Rep says no one asks for this feature that that.
Can you configure express VPN or the like on all devices with this through open VPN?
I think the negatives outweigh the positives for the price

Can i add and Orbi mesh system and use the 6600 as the brain?

Same with routers.
Not rowt but R-out

Could you make a comparison video for RT6600ax vs Eero Pro Mesh wifi router?
Price is too high for wifi. Best is use pfsense + access point. You can virtually control everything.
Yes, there are other router with better HW, but the software is very buggy so they forced me to end up choosing the synology one.
You can use USB hub. Tested, works ;)
Commented too quickly, shame on me.
Pitty Synology is ssooooooooo slow in rolling these out?
We still cannot get them in South Africa!
Nor in Canada. A lot of online vendors list them but all show as "Out of stock".
In Europe we have the same problem. Even Amazon doesn't have it available.
what is the Model number of the D link switch if you have time also does it have link aggregation
DMS-106XT, its a dumb switch so no LAG.
@@johnstouchpad6437 thabks for the reply im looking for a hub that has lag and 2.5gbe from nas computer what do you recommend if you have time 🙂

If you don't mind configuration, you can spend half that money and get a mikrotik hap ax3...
