There is a really good climb in Gilroy. It’s canada road. ( Ken-ya-DA) it not the grade that the challenge it’d the length of it. 15 miles of climbing with several false flats. The first 4.5 miles the grade is 13.5% with kickers reaching 17-19% grade and the rest is just up and down with grades of 3-15%
Yeah. I kept having this recurring daydream since the spring classics that Phil was going to say Paul's name by mistake while commentating. Sure enough, there it was. I'm so sad for Phil. He's a broken man.
I say that out of worry and admiration for Phil. I think it will take him a long time for him to return to a state of comfort and relaxation while cycling, and not constantly think of his fallen partner.
I'm suprised that a pro rider can descent that awful. I mean yeah there are really some guys that are afraid of speed or sharp corners but I'm expecting more from a pro rider. having said that, Still a brave brave ride from Cavagna!
As someone else commented above, those corners were very sandy - you can see it if you go back and watch. Cavagna was clearly avoiding sand on the racing line.
his brakes were fading hard. Major tech issue there. No way you can be a pro and have such poor handling skills. Think about it. His brakes were failing.
Im sure it wasnt shown in this video, but he probably was pushing pretty hard downhill, and if he isnt used to that, mistakes can happen. Luckily he didnt crash. Great job
@@toozydude2 At the finish the bars look pretty wobbly when he tries to sit up no-hands... maybe a bit of a headset issue? Wouldn't account for all of it but maybe contributed/compounded his lack of confidence descending.
Cavagna must have some Quick Step descending training in the future
The Man used to train in steep french volcano descents, he knows his stuff. Break issues for sure.
Thank you Amgen for not putting the stage winner in the thumbnail. Still pretty sad that Hoehn was gobbled up by the peloton at the end :(
i live here.
:3
was too busy with finals stress to watch it in person
Thanks for not putting the winner as the thumbnail
Great racing. Always enjoy the TOC

This dude can't ride without his hands on the bars? I mean I can't either but I'm a fat Cat 5.
Mt Hamilton and the cattle gratings..miss
Thought Cavagna was gonna kill himself on that descent. He must be happy for the discjob
those corners are notorious for having sand. I left some skin on that mountain years ago.
Undoubtedly. God bless the discs.

That story telling approach in the past tense with constant spoilers takes away all the fun of the race.. :/
Why is it always Quickstep riders that have trouble battling mountains while descending?.. hahaha

french dude that can't corner on wide American road #facepalm Cavagna
Remi... to turn left push forward on the left side of the bars and the bike will fall into the turn....it's real easy.....

haha just had a look at some more footage, he was actually surprisingly bad at descending for a pro... Wobbling everywhere
