I made a turkey yesterday and followed your instructions and it was DELICIOUS, thank you for the helpful hints. I had never cooked a turkey on the grill before but it came out perfect. My 11.50 pound turkey took 2 hours to cook and I let it rest for quite a while before we cut into it and it was still nice and warm. Thank you so much!!
Why are so many people negative? Thanks for the video bud! I would change how I do some things but definitely a great video and it looks like you had fun doing it!
Thanks for this video Jimmy! I just tried it on my new Weber performance grill and mostly followed what you did. Having never smoked (or even just cooked) a turkey on my own, this seemed intimidating, but it was actually pretty easy to do. And, everyone loved the turkey!
Where did you get the bottom grate for the charcoal? I have the default one and I can't use any lump charcoal because the small ones just fall through it.
I followed Jimmy D's instructions last Thanks Giving, and my "Bud Lite Lime Turkey" came out perfect. Thanks Brother!!! I put 2 Bottles of Bud Lite Lime and 1 Bottle of Water in my Drip Tray under the Bird with some seasonings.
Yes it did. I put 2 bottles of "Bud Lite Lime", and one bottle of water in my Drip Tray. Then I threw in some Onion Powder, Garlic Powder, Sea Salt, Paprika, and Black Pepper into the Drip Tray & stirred it. Makes an Awesome Stock when the Turkeys done!!!
You seem to know your BBQs. I've read that adding unlit charcoal is bad because of some by-products from the initial burn .. was told to get them lit first (like in a chimney) and only add them once they're going. What do you think?
Great video thanks for sharing .. I'm in Texas n 3 weeks away from thanksgiving.. on the apple sauce n juice mix did you use any other spices? If so what did you use? Again awesome video .. ooo one more thing "How bout them COWBOYS!!" 😂😂👊💪👍
Hi I have question, in the video you said you used "mod" to keep the smaller pieces from falling through the charcoal starter and on the grill, what exactly is that? I've look through the home improvement stores and can't find anything like that.
Very nice! I'm thinking of doing a turkey this way for Xmas this year. It's UK weather, though, so it'll be colder than what you had I'm betting, will that make a major difference? I'll also e going with briquettes, will they burn cooler, therefore needing more briquettes and more frequent topups?
Who's here in 2020? This is our third year in a row using Jimmy D's method of bbq'ing turkey on the Weber Kettle -- which comes out incredibly delicious. Happy Thanksgiving, ya'll !
Seattle, here! 2020 let’s do this. First time using Jimmy D’s method.... I have confidence this will work beautifully because I watched this video. Thanks Jimmy D! Happy Turkey Day.
Jimmy, what is the desired temperature you were aiming at for the grill? If that is a 22" grill then I cannot use my fire-bricks. Good Job on the bird Jim.
What's the diameter measurement on that Weber grill? A 26" or 28"?? Cuz I have an 11lb. Turkey and I wonder what Weber grill it would fit in. Please let me know, thank you.
I used your technique 5 years ago and now my family won't have it any other way! this year I'll post a vid of how to make the greatest gravy on the planet. 8 thanksgivings and counting,... awesome.
Because moisture comes from the INSIDE of the bird, while it's COOKING and NOT the outside. What, you think every time it rains, YOU are going to become "moist" from the inside just because "moisture" is hitting you from the OUTSIDE?
Anyone that disliked this video did so because they are not Patriots fans. Your instructions and commentary are helpful. Go Rams (2018)! Don't have to be a Pats fan to like this video. Thank you and happy Thanksgiving.
Hi Steve, Yeah people definitely hate because of my team. The Rams look really good. I am wondering if there will be another superbowl with the Rams/Patriots in the near future. Happy Thanksgiving!
Im a control freak, I have to have EXACTLY 50 briquettes on my grill. Every hour I add 5 to each side, vents wide open. I use pam, butter, and italian seasoning for flavor. So far no complaints in 8 years.
ok, I'm convinced - well, didn't take much - I'm smoking the turkey my son brought home (from work) - 22#. I watched the video (without sound), because I was watching several (while doing something else) so I could choose the one I was going to follow. Definitely this one! I don't have a Weber, but it's comparable.. I can't wait ! Thanks for the great video....
Jimmy D, congrats on your Pats beating my Chargers. There's still a chance they'll face the Rams in the SB but I think they will face the Saints. I will be rooting for the Pats. By the way, I'm smoking a turkey today. We took advantage of post holiday turkey sales. Best regards and go Pats!
jim , looks like a great way to cook a turkey ,I am waiting to get my weber 26.75 kettel ,going to order it this week , should have plenty of room on it, cant wait.
Nice Job Jimmy D! I just picked up the Gold Kettle for Labor Day festivities. My ribs came out perfect!!! I had been using a gas grill for the last 10 years but I never did get that smokey flavor. For Thanksgiving we have the whole family over at our house, 40 people! What was the actual cooking time of your turkey?
Basting almost every half hour helps greatly. Using the foil the first 15 minutes to 30, should also cut the cooking time dramatically. Will try it...:)
@@ataitague1 No Bribes here LOL. I have brined turkeys as well as injected them. Most of the turkeys at the grocery store are already brined, so then i would inject them for extra moisture and flavor. For fresh turkeys we make a brine and put them in a 5 gallon bucket. We like the crispy skin so brining is a must.
Weber and everything about it SUCKS! Try a REAL grill/smoker, for once in a row. facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=2142918362402334&set=pob.100000525722532&type=3&theater
Y do I typically c men using the grill? I'm a woman and I like 2 grill with my dad sometimes. But never done a turkey & probably never will. But it looks like a nice fire 2 warm up while ur cooking the bird when it's chilly outside. Right?
Why not start with water or stock in the pan to begin with? Seems to me that would help add moisture to the bird, which is so very desirable when cooking turkey, a notoriously dry bird.
John Houston That theory has been debunked because what happens is the drippings form a layer of fat on top of the water which prevents it from evaporating
The moisture comes from the INSIDE of a bird , NOT the outside. The only reason that turkey gets a rep as a "dry bird" is that cuckoos like YOU don't know HOW to cook a turkey, in the FIRST PLACE! If YOUR turkey is always "Dry" then it's YOUR fault! LEARN HOW TO COOK!

Gol' Dang! Great video! I could almost smell that bird! Sort of figured you were somewhere in Canada because of the French text on the charcoal bag, but whatever. Way to go.
We use this video every year. Great video. Happy Thanksgiving.
Keith, I'm so happy to hear. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Forget the aluminum foil, you should've thrown that Patriots sweater over that turkey from the start...
HITTINGBOMBS19 so salty you could have brined that bird
I've watched this every year for three years now hahaaa.
Massachusetts public school math, “It’s 3 o’clock, we put it in about 1, so that’s 3 hours…” 🤣🤣🤣
Back in 2021 -- Best Method Ever ! Thanks Jimmy! Happy Thanksgiving y'all !
Your turkey looks great! What temp was your weber running at?
I’m new just came across this channel because this is what I’m do for the turkey this year 2019 great video very detailed.

I like your collection of Webers. It reminds me of my patio.
Why are so many people negative? Thanks for the video bud! I would change how I do some things but definitely a great video and it looks like you had fun doing it!
this video never gets old I mean how often do you get to watch Leo DiCaprio smoke a turkey
His acting was subpar. Kept waiting him to pop ludes.

Love your vlog I watched it a few years back and it came up in my feed again today. Happy cooking
Almost that time of year again Jimmy D!!!!! This videos like watching a Christmas story or it's a beautiful life on Christmas owowowowoww
Wow Rancho Murieta! My parents lived there for 23 years. Beautiful country! I'll have to try this.
Just so you know, I’ve watched this video every year before Thanksgiving just for inspiration. Great work!!!
Awesome! Thank you!

Hi I have question, in the video you said you used "mod" to keep the smaller pieces from falling through the charcoal starter and on the grill, what exactly is that? I've look through the home improvement stores and can't find anything like that.
He used hardware cloth aka chicken wire on the bottom of his chimney starter also along the bottom of his charcoal grate.
Have you grilled any turkeys since? What do you think went wrong with this one?
Very nice! I'm thinking of doing a turkey this way for Xmas this year. It's UK weather, though, so it'll be colder than what you had I'm betting, will that make a major difference? I'll also e going with briquettes, will they burn cooler, therefore needing more briquettes and more frequent topups?

how long did it take U to cook it ? I missed that..
What was the temp of the bbq, what were the spices used, and what was the finishing temp of the bird??? Critical data missing...

Hi Vince, Thanks for the feedback. I would love to see you gravy video. My wife usually does the gravy part.
This really is the best smoking video, I have used this one for 3 years it is perfect.
Thank You!
Looks so good makes me hungry and dang you grilled it so fast faster than in a regular oven too !!
Nothing like some dry, burnt turkey🤣🤣🤣🤣 don't give up keep at it you'll get it
Why didn't you put some kind of liquid into the pan for the moisture right at the beginning?
Because moisture comes from the INSIDE of the bird, while it's COOKING and NOT the outside.
What, you think every time it rains, YOU are going to become "moist" from the inside just because "moisture" is hitting you from the OUTSIDE?
@@a.barnard3205 Adding some water in the pan at the beginning keeps the kettle humid and helps moderate the heat.
And water in the beginning helps keep the skin from burning and needing foil also
Is it the same process if u cook it solely w/ charcoal?
did u use a thermometer 2 c if the temp was where it should b when u said "its done"?
Going to use some of your ideas for my turkey this year. Hope it turns out like yours did. Love that applesauce mix to keep it moist. Thanks.
"Applesauce Mix" has NOTHING to do with "Moist".
You kids have a LOT to learn about cooking!
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE
Cooking my first Turkey on the grill. Great video. What temperature should you be at?
250-275 try not to get above 300 for too long
Vince Roady thanks, it turned out great!
Thanks for upload and for your work
are the vents open or closed throughout ? (top & bottom)
Love the mop... thanks for the post - love smoked turkey
What made you use the kettle over the WSM you have in the background for the Turkey?

What exactly is the material you have for the chimney and kettle I have been looking for something like that
metal lathe aka stucco netting
That's how it's done right there.
Gonna try this on Thursday
Awesome video like you are a Patriot Fan too. Thank you!
Thanks!
Remember the Griswold family's Thanksgiving turkey in Christmas Vacation.......
How many hours did this take to cook?
What was that liquid that he did serve on aluminum plate?
I was going to get an ugly drum if i sell my weber smokey mountain. I just got a Grill Dome Ceramic, so that has been getting all the love lately.
What temp are you using?
Jimmy D, congrats on your Pats beating my Chargers. There's still a chance they'll face the Rams in the SB but I think they will face the Saints. I will be rooting for the Pats. By the way, I'm smoking a turkey today. We took advantage of post holiday turkey sales. Best regards and go Pats!

hell yeah dude looks awesome
looks like the rub caused skin to burn? or is it just the video making it look like it is?
Gonna try this this Thanksgiving. Where do I buy the coal separators
My husband found ours at ACE hardware and the kettle extension ring to raise the lid online it was about $50.00 but worth it for larger turkeys.
I just love a grilled turkey!
This is so cozy and fun !! Hey are you going to smoke a turkey this thanksgiving if you do please record and put it on here thanks paul !!
your description "cozy" is spot on !!! :)
Thanks
"we put it in at ten to 1, its now 3 o'clock, so it took 3 hours"
2 hours and ten minutes....?
damn i wish i had greenery in the background during thnx giving, but no!. its freakin cold as hell and snowing. buyah!

what is cooking time ?
GO PATS!!!
What's the temperature ?
Good job Jimmy! Gonna give this a try for xmas. =)
Is there a reason your using kettle instead of smokey mountain
Everyone in the family seems to like the BBQ Turkey Better. If I was to use the WSM I would cook it a bit higher than smoking temperature.
what is so wrong with the Weber kettle? a perfect grill.
These ones?
nice vid, I like to put about a quart of water in the drip tray to start off with.
I have tried that and it is probably the best way to not have everything dry up.
would you cover it with foil from the beginning also? See some people saying this and I want to try this out.
Major Nuts Covering it with foil from the beginning would prevent the smoke from penetrating the meat and you won't have the smokey flavor
Wrong.
Good Job Rob! I hope to see more videos from you!
IT WAS ALL COOL UNTIL HE DOGGED MY LIONS LOL :)
I guess the woman made the sides ahahah I'm glad I watch the whole vid

what about that slow n sear attachment? Maybe fill the water part with broth.
That's right... water inside of the kettle but not directly under the bird/roast. That is how you get moisture into it.
John Houston I agree and he should brasie along the way not last minute
The moisture comes from the INSIDE of a bird , NOT the outside.
The only reason that turkey gets a rep as a "dry bird" is that cuckoos like YOU don't know HOW to cook a turkey, in the FIRST PLACE!
