Thank‘s very much for for this nice reaction again to „my neighbors“ 😊. Eluveitie is a great band and fire live as well. The band has found a wonderful way to fuse elements of our Celtic ancestors with heavy metal... the result is... yeah, haunting and beautiful. If you ever get the chance to see Eluveitie live, don't miss it. ❤ from 🇨🇭

That instrument is called "Uilleann pipes", it is in fact a bagpipe and the air is provided by a bellow under the right arm. Is THE bagpipe of Ireland but is played in Scotland as well.

The instruments you see at the beginning are Carnyx. They were used by the Gaulish tribes to frighten the enemies.

Singer Fabienne Ermi also has another band called Illumishade. They stick to standard instruments for a metal band. I’m rather fond of songs like ‘Elegy’, ‘Enemy’, ‘Hymn’.

"Life will conquer, and reign beyond." As I understand it, Anu is a Celtic nature/mother goddess. The problem, as discussed in the verses, is that modern civilization has alienated us from the natural world--both physically and spiritually. (This was the theme of Exile of the Gods too.) This leaves us trapped in a meaningless superficiality ("a cog in a synthetical phantom Neverland") separated from a communion with a greater whole that could give us deeper connection and purpose ("latch-locked out of the presence of the gods"). This song is a call to battle and rebellion, to embrace our solidarity not only with each other but with the whole world to which we belong. We are flood, we are fire, we're the voice of the gods, and we must work to change humanity's broken relationship with nature before it is too late and we become her enemies. "Anu ascend the throne. Thy kingdom come."

This was a must, you did. My thanks, senorita. 🙂 The roots of Eluveitie are the gaulish tribe that was living on the current Switzerland land. The tribe is called (in French) the Helvètes. Eluveitie digged some texts from a dead language that is Gaulish and used scholars' help to get an approximation of its pronounciation.

There is indeed a version of the Bagpipes that don't require constant mouth inflation. Irish pipes for example do this, as do others. Traditional Scots pipes sure. Thats what I learned at School

Those are Irish style bagpipes. No reeds but a pump under your other arm. Later Nightwish uses them a lot.

The chant of the children that the men repeat is from an ancient gaulish tribe. I'm not sure, but it must have been preserved as an inscription. And yes, it was a war chant. Your celtic blood is calling, NittPicc. 🤗🤗😉
The celtic heritage of Switzerland is the reason for Eluveitie to exist. To remember it, to pay homage to it, to bring it back into the future. Or, as the band puts it in their own site about this song:
"Definitely one of the harshest songs of Eluveitie ever. It's the sheer consequence of our spiritual journey with "Ategnatos":
We're no longer a "Celtic Metal" band... a metal band singing about celtic history. We're Celts playing metal music from all our hearts.
We're no more a "Pagan Metal" band. We are metal music playing pagans from all our hearts, gashing principles of our modern societies with our ancient message like a surgical blade.
That's probably the best way to describe our new single. Deal with it!"

I want to remind you to check out Cellar Darling sometime (eventually, I know your queue must be long!). Former Eluveitie members who went in a more prog direction. I haven't heard anything of what they're up to in a while, but they have quite a few excellent songs from a few years ago.

As a flutest, I suggest checking out the band King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard as the lead singer plays flute on some songs. They're a rock band that can play pretty much everything and at a top level, too. Their song Hot Water is a good one, especially the live version from Bonnaroo 2022. I highly suggest it.

It's better to say something like "this is not for me" than to try to be toxic, or recognize that the beginning was really good even if you didn't like what followed. I'm also not too fond of certain parts of the song, but really love the rest.
