Not being from a military background it’s difficult sometimes to motivate yourself because you forget that feeling that military life gives you because you’re not surrounded by it. when i was doing my training for phase 2 rifles, the same thing happened to me and the section commander was pissing himself of laughter, we all were lmao 😂😂😂. Then we pretty much scraped that exercise because the bungies we got issued were rats and we’re complete shit
🤣🤣🤣 I'm at a military preparation college and I went on a trip to Wathgil with the British Army outreach team and my poncho and everything got soaked because I didn't have enough materials so I had to improvise with what I had 🤣🤣
Went into assessment and failed my medical because I was underweight but passed everything else, I’m going back in a month just need to put on 2 more kilos, then hopefully I can make it for pirbright in April 🤘🏻
illuminati Anthony they do it by BMI and since I’m under 18 I needed a BMI of 17 or more, I’m quite skinny and tall so mine came out to 16.8 so I needed to put on 2-3 kilos more and come back so I could be above my target BMI, but if you’re over 18 you need a BMI of 18 or more 👍🏻
Kian George I’m not in the Army yet, hopefully I’ll be starting my application in a few weeks. But I was the same, I was underweight for about two years but in this past months I’ve somehow managed to gain half a stone- I mainly did it by gaining muscle in the gym, so maybe that will work for you too! And remember after the gym, have a protein shake as that helped me put the weight on! Good luck!!
Great videos man, I’ve binged a ton of them. It’s got me really motivated to join the army but the fitness is nowhere near where it needs to be. I admire these guys and girls for their mental and physical strength hopefully one day I’ll be up there with them

As the other guy said, I think it’s cause the cameras are running. I made the mistake of thanking a member of the training team for something and getting absolutely chewed up for it. For the remainder of training I just kept quiet after that 😂
Nice to see the basics after all these years all i can say is thank god for gas burners and i hate mess tins 1 cup 1 good metal mug and wooden spoon and i was happy. All those years sleeping out has taken its toll on my body. Still i miss the life. Not the bullshit.
Riding a Lion don’t stress it the assessment isn’t challenging at all and really easy, I got deferred for being slightly underweight but I’m coming back soon. There’s no shouting there’s nothing challenging it’s absolutely fine just make sure that you’re ready for the run the mid thigh pull and the medicine ball throw. It’s really laidback and all the staffs are nice so there’s nothing to worry about just don’t step on the grass that’s the only rule 😂
Ha - son just passed out - seems like yesterday he was on 1st Nights - ATC Pirbright and the Army has been the best thing ever - last year freshly arrived in UK knew hardly anyone - this year over a 3rd of the troop met for New Years - If you want physical, mental and spiritual resilience plus an amazing support structure just join is all I can say - we laughed watching this video but they so great - an amazing resource for how phase 1 is going to be.
Wouldn’t recommend a stick underneath the basher when you’re heading to sleep you need a low profile and a storm can pick up in your sleep and your shelter can be fcked away without you even knowing it.

For me, i put the ration packs that im going to eat into my back inbetween my field pack while still advancing through the woods, body heat makes it warm under the tropical sun. And if there are vehicle , i will toss it under the bonnet for a few minutes. Wet ration are not popular because they will makes you pooed everyday. We prefer biscuits, fig bars, chocolate etc. Some guys even munch on uncooked instant noodles .
Dig the Hexe burner into the ground! This will provide stability, the middle rivet on a mug, is half a pint, this is all you need to boil everything, at the same time.

Great information. I spent 29 years in the US Army but never used bungees for my “poncho hooch”. I wished I knew this before many a wet night in Korea and Germany! 👍🇺🇸
Yep, I spent 3 or. 4 years in cadets in teenage years, 413 Aldershot Squadron. Air Cadets but taught the same skills and plenty of exercises away for full weekends or longer and also on the cadet evenings, all around Aldershot, Mytchett, Pirbright and Farnborough. The long weekend exercises on Hankly Common were always intense but a lot of fun. Learned life skills. Should bring back national service as the way the country is going and the lack of respect and behaviours we see are concerning.
Also Staff, should we not be digging out shell scrapes first, in case of enemy Artillery raining down on our harbour area? Setting out arcs of fire, securing the perimeter and establishing comms with HQ?
It is interesting if you look at the stats on recruitment figures over the past ten years. When the wars were on in Afghanistan, and Iraq , the number of people wanting to join the British Army, and Royal Marines was significant higher than today. Maybe people wanted join for action, and prove themselves?

..other armies have a tent with a kiln for heating. This works, but this is basically a squad fighting separated from the main army if they had to rely on that equipment. A rain protection is great, but not to carry a lot of shit - thats why you have logistics
Since Trees moved further apart.. you've got to be so far behind lines to but up a biv you might as well stay in a Travel inn. You'd have your Throat cut in minutes on the front lines or behind enemy lines. Anyway I'm sure the spetsnaz are pissing themselves with fear
Our luitenent tought us this and you can also edit it by making a sort of trench at the end of the basha (tarpaulin) to collect the water or it will flood you
Try removing these bunjees at 0300 hrs in a wood in pitch dark when you have to bug out / quick move. Better to use green string and you can just rip / cut the ties super quick... job done! Ex Para.
We used to use hootchie cord with a slip knot. You'd set up, then drop the ridge lines so it would drop to the ground. After stand to, when it was dark, you'd retie the lines with qd knots, and try to gonk until your guard.
See how optimistic they are when the poor souls are painting grass or picking up twigs outside the guard room on a Saturday night lol. Loved my time with the lads and it’s them I miss.
cj Stover I done assessment centre in December and I’ve got PRAC (parachute regiment aptitude course) on March 2nd. I’m obviously also going for Paras. From what I’ve heard you need 50 sit-ups in 2 minutes and 50 press ups in 2 minutes. You need to be able to do plenty of pull ups. Also practice sprinting up very steep hills then walking down and repeat that till you cant feel your legs. I’m doing a 4 miler everyday and my route includes plenty of long hard hills to build up my strength. Try practice running with boots on so you know what it’s like for later on. It gives your feet some time to adjust to the extra weight. The very least you need to be able to do is 2km in 08:15. I completed my 2km at assessment centre in 07:42. 08:15 is the minimal acceptance level of you’re looking to join the Paras. Just ask anyone you know who’s either done basic training or is doing it now for tips. Unfortunately I don’t know anyone who’s in the army so I lurk in Fabziy’s comment section. Good luck.
Why is the Corporal referring to a poncho when in fact it's a basha tarp. A poncho has a hole for a head ,whereas the tarp he uses and refers to a poncho isn't a poncho!

After basic I never used a hexi block again once. Oil cookers.And ten bungees we got two and string. And all our food was in tins. And no girls I joined in 1984 as a 16 year old boy soldier.

I joined in 2006 and was at ATR bassingbourn for phase 1 and ITC catterick garrison for phase 2. Bassingbourn is closed now but the accommodation was standard but decent. Catterick was nice also. Dont expect much, that's all I can say. Once I was in my unit, I was based at beachley barracks in chepstow. That place was a fucking shit hole.

Wow see at 5.18 when the corporal asks the trainee's to stop talking haha fuck me that was nice and polite, when a was a junior leader light infantry at flowerdown barracks Winchester in the early 90's and we were talking jesus wept you would of been jumped on by the section corporal and then made to do the circuit on the rugby pitch full kit till they were satisfied with the beasting as they called it. Haha happy days.

I'd say couple of bungees AND a hunk (20-30 meters) of Paracord is the way to go.

We call the poncho a hootchie, mine ripped on the first night rain I ended up sleeping on one half and the the other draped over the top.
If you are short on paracord, why not use branches with small V branch to lengthen the paracord that tie tent to tree?

Why is the Corporal referring to a poncho when in fact it's a basha tarp. A poncho has a hole for a head ,whereas the tarp he uses and refers to a poncho isn't a poncho!

After basic I never used a hexi block again once. Oil cookers.And ten bungees we got two and string. And all our food was in tins.
And no girls I joined in 1984 as a 16 year old boy soldier.

Hey, how does the accommodation look like in the basic training (soldiers)?
I joined in 2006 and was at ATR bassingbourn for phase 1 and ITC catterick garrison for phase 2. Bassingbourn is closed now but the accommodation was standard but decent. Catterick was nice also. Dont expect much, that's all I can say. Once I was in my unit, I was based at beachley barracks in chepstow. That place was a fucking shit hole.

genuine question: when the men in charge ask 'any questions' do they ever expect a 'yes' in reply? what if the whole group say 'no ___' and yet one person has a genuine question or query
I mean that was pretty basic stuff they were teaching however, if someone does have a question then they will have no problem answering it.
Wow see at 5.18 when the corporal asks the trainee's to stop talking haha fuck me that was nice and polite, when a was a junior leader light infantry at flowerdown barracks Winchester in the early 90's and we were talking jesus wept you would of been jumped on by the section corporal and then made to do the circuit on the rugby pitch full kit till they were satisfied with the beasting as they called it. Haha happy days.
