Personal Knowledgebase I - Comparing Mendeley, Zotero, Evernote & Citavi

Balancing the need for intra and extratextual annotation with the sort of citation tree I covered in the last video, gives rise to a new set of infrastructural problems that can only be resolved with the additional organizational power of a knowledgebase (0:27). In this video I will compare Evernote (4:25), Mendeley (5:03), Zotero (6:07) and Citavi and explore their ability to resolve these problems, focusing on Citavi and its unique ability to generate microthematic metadata.

I haven't see anything that comes to Citavi when it comes to annotating, organizing knowledge, and managing citations. It's truly a life saver.

I...don't know how to feel about the integrity of this video. They show the full price differences onscreen but the narrator talks like Zotero is either 0 dollars or 120 dollars per year when the screen shows there are middle ground options.

Thank you for this very informative video. Exactly the explanation I was looking for. I just wish that there was another alternative as I have found it slow using Zotero with locally stored PDF files. I will install EndNote for a comparison.

Thank you for the enlightening and brilliant comparison. Would you add ReadCube on this? I using Zotero consistently. Two issues that annoy me: a) it does not do (yet) is to correctly archive PDFs into a library folder; b) cloud storage sync problem (something related to local cache files).

can Zotero search icon perhaps be operated out of libraries (online articles) before adding the results to the main application/library? withal, thumbs up for Mendeley on this embedded functionality.

Do you have any experiences with EndNote? It is supposed to be quite good, and you can use it with Mendeley.

Zapy third party apps exist, I'm in the process of making one for mobile and tablets and soon after Chromebooks.
