So here's my argument in favor of physical fingerprint reader: The reason why I would always choose a physical fingerprint reader is because I can put my hand in my pocket (because that's where my phone is most of the time), pull my phone by grabbing the phone by the fingerprint sensor, and by the time I've pulled the phone out, it will already be unlocked. Now one can argue how it won't really save a lot of time, but it's not about saving time, it's about doing everything in one motion. With the in-display fingerprint sensors, you still have to pull the phone out and then scan your finger because of the proximity sensor not allowing the display to turn on in your pocket, and even if a phone's under-display fingerprint sensor works in the pocket, you have to hit it at the right spot which can be a hit or miss, which will again require you to scan your finger after you've pulled your phone out. And face recognition is just the inferior way of unlocking a phone.
One thing you will be faulty at when you have optical sensor is that suppose if you have a purse in the pocket and you happen to keep your mobile in the same pocket too and if your buying something or whatever etc and you accidentally touch your mobile optical sensor in the pocket and your mobile happened to light up and you don't happen to recognise it then think about what will happen to that poor mobile in the pocket.... For me physical sensor is best. It only takes some nano seconds
Ultrasonic sensors are 3D and optic sensors are 2D which in terms makes them less secure....but....Ultrasonic sensors are a nightmare with ANY screen protector, including Dome glass. Especially if your fingers are completely clean and grease free (e.g. immediately after washing your hands). To the point that the are not usable and I always end up using face recognition...licking your finger helps, but I/m not doing that 50 times a day. There is just NO way I will use any flagship phone without a screen protector just to use the ultrasonic sensor so I really hope Samsung switches to optical soon.

The water test was unfair. For one, you have to put a bit more pressure on the ultra sonic sensor. That's just how it's made, wet or dry. And 2, it's literally telling you to press a bit harder when your finger was wet. If you know Samsung, you know this. So the error is not on Samsung, it's on the user.
Wasn't expecting the ultra sonic to choke on the water test. Water is a great conductor of sound and humans are made of water, so what happened? Maybe the speed of sound in water is too slow compared to glass?

As someone with a Pixel 5a (a $400 phone that has a rear fingerprint sensor like its 2016 or something) i can say that rounded rear fingerprint sensors are the absolute worse - never once has it taken me only 1 attempt to open the phone in my 3 months of use and most of the time it locks the phone before it can actually detect my fingerprint. Honestly rear rounded fingerprint sensors are just a huge steaming hot pile of garbage, do yourself a favor, and dont buy yourself a phone with a round rear fingerprint sensor if you plan to use a lock screen.
Well physical (capacitive) fingerprint sensor are much more durable , secure and cheaper in comparison to optical or ultrasonic some even work after being scratched. Only downside being that they dont work when fingers are oily or wet.

This doesn't add up with my experience at all. My phone is a a52 5g and girlfriends phone is xiaomi 9T. Both have opticle sensors but while mine often fails 3 times before letting me in and take a half second to register, hers is immediate. Both are slower than the physical fingerprint reader I had on my s10e and oneplus device. And just tested a s21 today and that ultrasonic isn't as quick as physical fp reader but still quicker than optical.

I'm not interested in the optical sensor because it is the least secure. The other two, ok. I have both the Note 10+ (ultrasound scanner) and the Xperia 1 ii (physical scanner). BUT I do prefer the physical sensor on the Xperia because of ergonomics plus the fact that my first touch on a phone is NOT a big thumb print on a freshly cleaned screen. By the way, in normal conditions, no wet or greasy thumbs, the Xperia is super quick and reliable.
How much of a difference would the Sony have if you would include the wake time for Samsung or OnePlus. Since Sony's one you can just tap to unlock and Samsung or Oneplus you need to wake to activate it.
Speed means nothing when it comes to finger scanner as that could mean that the security tolerance was reduced. Also optical scanner make only a 2d image of your finger print and ultra sonic scanner make a 3d image and therefore are more secure and harder to fool but of course all scanners can be hacked.
Could you try to use an different phone for the physical fingerprint one ? Like an iPhone for example ? I honestly think this is very inaccurate, have you tried any line of phones by Xiaomi and their rear sensors? They're so fast. I have the OnePlus N20 and I'm considering returning it because there's a lag, the Xiaomi 8 and 9 rear sensors are blazing fast by comparison. The way you're doing the physical finger test is flat on the table, therefore you're finger isn't entirely exposed properly on the hardware because of the table limiting the finger. Try that phone in the air with your thumb and then compare the results again. Terrible test, considering the side sensor is designed for the thumb.

My oneplus 5, had an amazingly fast physical fingerprint scanner, that now going from that to my new phone, an oppo find X2 neo (or Reno 3 pro depending on where in the world you live), which uses a similar scanner to the OP8 pro as in the video, is making me so frustrated because it is sooo slow rather than instant like my oneplus was. Not to mention half the time doesn't even work. I've even reset my fingerprints a few times just to make sure it's registered properly. The oneplus 5 was such a good phone for its time that everything now just pales in comparison. I've even downgraded from Snapdragon 835 to 765g.

No dude. Face id/unlock is the fastest if u use a raise to wake feature. It will unlock the phone as soon as u raise the phone and it sees ur face

Performance: in normal usage your not gonna notice a big defrence but in heavy tasking its gonna get really hot yes there is the hs feature but thats inconvenient and uncomfortable while s20 plus can do the same whiout getting as hot
Battery: definitely a weakness of the xperia it last about 7 hours with normal day usage compare to s20 plus's 9 hours with even heavier usage
Edit: s20 also has option for high refresh rate

Galaxy S20 depends on the region. If you have the exynos device you get better battery life on the Sony.
I would also say better photos with the Sony.

The Ultra Sonic because it takes a 3D image vs a 2D image from the optical.
Maybe you need to test physical fingerprint sensor on phone like OnePlus 5t they much better than Optical or ultrasonic and better than the one on Sony.
My oneplus 5, had an amazingly fast physical fingerprint scanner, that now going from that to my new phone, an oppo find X2 neo (or Reno 3 pro depending on where in the world you live), which uses a similar scanner to the OP8 pro as in the video, is making me so frustrated because it is sooo slow rather than instant like my oneplus was. Not to mention half the time doesn't even work. I've even reset my fingerprints a few times just to make sure it's registered properly.
The oneplus 5 was such a good phone for its time that everything now just pales in comparison. I've even downgraded from Snapdragon 835 to 765g.
The Snapdragon 765G benchmarks higher than the 835.

And ultrasonic wont work if theres water on ur hand unlike its supposed to. I think water part is supposed to br underwater or something? 🤔 anyway i see no point. Its even slower than bbk's optical scanners.

Not really. It's only insignificantly faster. This guy wasn't using the Ultra Sonic sensor completely correct. The USS is more of a press than a tap. The phone even says that when it doesn't read your finger print fully.
Mind that an optical sensor means there always a hidden camera watching watever you do entire time.
Just because it's a camera doesn't mean that it is or that it can spy on you
