Good info Mariel but it's important to note that, at this time, KDP is not saying AI generated art or content is banned, unless of course the content is copyrighted or trademarked. Nobody is sure how KDP will decide to use the fact that your book cover or interior was AI generated or assisted. I would agree that hiring a good illustrator to create artwork that you own is a very wise choice but that's not to say AI assisted art is banned at this point. It's a new world and everyone is trying to figure out how to take advantage of the amazing power of AI while not infringing any copyright/trademark issues and risking KDP account termination.
Hi John, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I agree with you - atm KDP isn't saying the usage of AI-generated content is banned. And I don't think it's realistic to think Amazon or any publishing platform will ban the usage of AI-generated content - as long as such usage complies with their respective content guidelines (which are primarily influenced by customer satisfaction and intellectual property laws). That being said, the AI-related issue I address in the video is specifically when: Self-publishers like you and me innocently pay for stock images or hire freelancers expecting to get our money's worth of human-generated artwork/designs/illustrations but we end up getting AI-generated work. Now the following is a scenario that I'd like to prevent people from having to go through: Lets say you publish your book with AI-Generated images in it. You declare "No this work was not AI-generated" when you publish your book because you truly believed the freelancer you hired digitally drew the images. Now let's say you are one of the unlucky few and you get an email from Amazon asking you for proof: 1) proof that that work you declared as not AI-generated was indeed not AI-generated, and 2) proof that you have the publishing rights for these images you used in your books. Now - worst case scenario - let's say you get hold of the freelancer you hired, and they tell you that the images were indeed AI-Generated and that they used Bing Image Generator. You do your research, read through Bing's terms of use and find out that this AI software does not allow commercial use of the images it generates. What then? How do you prove your innocence with KDP? And in such a case, would it even matter if you're innocent? As for AI-assisted art - if you mean artwork where there is sufficient human creative input in the final work (I'm borrowing words from the US Copyright Office's AI Guidelines)... it kinda sounds like the best of both worlds :)) (You embrace AI innovation + stay within the current legal boundaries)
Totally agree with your comments. In fact, I watched your previous video on why you won't use AI generated art just yet ruclips.net/video/qt-3esMYTtw/видео.html and found that really informative. The jaw dropper was the copyright restrictions on images produced with Midjourney!! Great work keeping us honest 🙂@@bookswithmariel
Wow thanks so much for checking out that video! It's one that's a bit challenging to watch since it's a bit of a boring and complex subject matter... so it makes me really happy when I get feedback on it, thanks John :) !
That's awesome! I wish Creative Fabrica would label designs as AI or not-AI for subscribers to see. I've seen some CF designer profiles where they say their designs were hand-drawn even though they look suspiciously AI-generated.
This is a good video cuz when someone when he start making profit and want to expand hi business he must hire many designers or ggostwriters to produce more books. So thanks for the video and i hope you make other ones how to handle someone and to choose the good one to work with

As a Creative Fabrica seller I can also say that we are required to classify our artwork as AI generated if they are.
That's awesome! I wish Creative Fabrica would label designs as AI or not-AI for subscribers to see. I've seen some CF designer profiles where they say their designs were hand-drawn even though they look suspiciously AI-generated.
This is suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper helpful, Thank you, Like deserved
